Chetna, I was the same and didn't like to break leaves from my curry leaf tree😂 but the more you use the more it will grow. I've had mine for many years now and has also split into more trees. I also live having it in the house. Enjoy😘 also love the recipe!

Interesting, I also don't like to use my plant's curry leaves, it just doesn't feel right, haha. But I'll try more now. Also, I heard one should not just pick single leaves, but remove the whole twig, not sure if that's right.

I believe that proper harvest of curry leaf plants is to cut at the twig. In turn they will grow off shoots and become more full.

My curry plants were hanging out at the same size for months then a farmer told me they love natural fertilizer. I side-dressed them with some already broken down chicken manure (no smell, just smells like dirt now) and they put up another two inches of new growth in just two weeks. Also if it's summery there now they are moisture tolerant and may grow faster outdoors (I also moved mine into more full sun/heat) 🧡

I find I don't like the flavour of moong dal, it tastes kind of like soil to me (weird I know). Am i doing something wrong with the cooking? But I love toor dal and other types of lentils. Thank you, Chetna for posting all your lovely recipes!

I love making Moong Dal - it's a amily favourite. Chetna, I can't understand how you get by with so little water. If I were doing 300g dry, I would use 1.75 litres of water, and after 12-15 minutes it wouldn't be too runny.

Can I just ask about adding salt to pulses and legumes at the beginning doesn’t it delay the process of the pulses or legumes softening quickly. I was also tole nit to add salt until the pulse or legumes are fully softened.

I have watched all my aunts, my mum, my mums friends cook like this. They all add the salt at the start, works everytime. People have different ways of cooking.

Moong dal or any other dal should be soaked for half an hour before cooking. White foam which appears on dal should be removed as it is not good for stomach that is what our nanis/ dadis also used to do.
@FoodwithChetna
@FoodwithChetna 26 күн бұрын
Ok let me just say that in ALL the years I have been cooking and my mum and my dadi and nani - NO ONE has ever taken the white foam out, thats because Dals are cooked in pressure cooker in India and NO ONE stops the cooking to open the cooker to take the foam out. Sometimes you just have to ACCEPT that there are many ways of cooking the same thing, not all dadis and nanis cook the same way. We are more than a billion Indians and you might have to just come to terms with that. And NO need to soak the dals either. You are welcome!

I was about to make the same remark: we are so used to almost all of Chetna's recioes stating with chopped onion and garlic. It sounds promising though and the cumin seeds and curry leaves will give plenty of flavour.
