Never watched Iron Man, but the audition made me hate the character. As a woman, I find his arrogance incredibly unattractive. How could anyone stand that?
@mmm.woof.3 күн бұрын
@@elifdurmus8243That was his interpretation of the character. The comic book version is almost similar, but to its core the character is less arrogant and more confident, rightfully so. Mind you this is a fictional character in a fictional world but imagine this: a man, however high his IQ might be, is a mortal who can fight on even ground against most beings who are mutants or gods, with the exception of the result of freak accidents like Hulk. With strength like that wouldn't your head be in the clouds too? But to break it down further, that's his sense of humor. Like most heroes he's got problems he's dealing with and being a prick and making jokes is one of the ways he copes.
@elifdurmus82433 күн бұрын
@@mmm.woof. thanks for the explanation, it gives me more insight into why people like this character/portrayal. I think one of the reasons the audition scene gave me such an aversion is that he was so condescending and arrogant towards a woman, in a way which is portrayed as attractive and desirable, and I really hate that interpretation of what male attractiveness, power and confidence should look like. I also really hate people who profit off war and make this argument 😅

By all accounts it was always Leo's role opposite this tremendous performance from Kate Winslet, who absolutely WON her role. But Jeremy Sisto- with no future in that role reading this on the other side, just doing it for the love of what he was doing for his fellow actor, is kind of incredible. He's had a phenomenal career and the selflessness and generosity of this feels like maybe a big reason why he's been working for 3+ decades consistently

@@christopherchristmas101Leo and Kate had much better chemistry than Kate and the man she auditioned with. Kate is actually younger than Leo, which surprises many people since she does look older than she actually is, but that wasn't the most important part of Titanic. If the actors have no chemistry, the movie is 100% gonna flop. Kate and Leo had chemistry, so the movie was received well because the actors actually seemed like they had a genuine connection to each other, making it feel more authentic. If the audience sees no connection between the actors, they won't be able to truly connect to the characters and the story because it doesn't feel authentic. Directors would rather have two actors with impeccable chemistry who look slightly different in age rather than two actors who look the same age but have zero chemistry. Chemistry/connection between two lead actors is SO important when making a film. Actors who have zero chemistry/connection with each other make the movie fall flat. One of the biggest things that a film relies on is the connection between the characters. No chemistry, no movie.
@christopherchristmas10119 күн бұрын
@@em-pr5jv well, that's my whole point. They didn't have chemistry. The casting was ridiculous. Leonardo DiCaprio was far too proud and arrogant to be believable as a vagrant who won passage on the most luxurious ship of the time and then commingle with what would be a member of the top 1% of society. Even in that brief screen test, you can feel the tension and awkwardness as well as the raw natural sexual tension of two young adults trying to play it cool. The only reason Leonardo DiCaprio was cast was because he was Leo. It was even mocked in the Austin Powers Goldmember when Dr Evil says "Leeooo". It had nothing to do with chemistry.
@em-pr5jv19 күн бұрын
@@christopherchristmas101 Nah, Leo and Kate DEFINITELY had chemistry. Kate and that guy with her in the screen test had zero chemistry whatsoever. Kate and Leo had WAY more chemistry than Kate and that other guy. Leo was definitely the right choice, that other guy did NOT look good alongside Kate at ALL. the movie would for sure have been a flop if that other guy had been casted as Jack. Leonardo was 100% the right choice for Jack and to star alongside Kate. Leo's acting was great and Kate's acting was great as well.

I actually think Jeremy Sisto did a great job in the audition reading. Even though it was centered around Winslet's character, he really did capture the scene. So much of the time good actors lose a part because they don't capture the full essence of what the character was written for. Unfortunately, in the case of Titanic, Sisto just didn't have the youth and humor DiCaprio brought to the role. I believe that's the only reason he wasn't ultimately cast to be Jack in the end. Brilliant job for sure though.

After seeing this, I realize how awful the decision to cast Leonardo DiCaprio was. The movie would have a far better dynamic with Jeremy. He would have exhibited the first man to ever make her feel "not good enough" for. Challenged her. Shown her infatuation. With Leo, it was too apparent that HE was the one head over heals in love and she was the prize. It would have been reversed with Jeremy in that role and what an incredible dynamic since he was the 3rd class passenger. Wow. Would have been interesting for sure.
