At Comme une Française, we specialize in everyday spoken French. We focus on three unique aspects that are different from school French, self-study books, Duolingo, etc:
1. We focus only on the specifics of speaking/understanding/being understood in everyday French and have unique ways to help you learn it properly & faster.
2. We focus on shortcuts to help you make progress faster, which also means we tell you exactly what you can stop learning to prioritize what’s really important.
3. We use French culture as the subject to make it fun and interesting for adults.
Take care and stay safe.

A million years ago, to pronounce the 'u' sound (e.g. from dessus), we were advised to put our mouth and lips as if we were going to say 'ooo' but then try to say 'eee'. It works!

The English translation of "Elle est encore moins motivée que moi" raises an interesting point of English grammar. The formal translation should be '... less motivated than I,' although the informal version 'than me' is frequently used. When you want to be sure which is correct, finish the sentence. She is less motivated that I am.

I don’t know about memorizing but I just saw a pattern thanks to your lesson. I think every beginner will eventually learn the word ‘sur’. Now tell us to add ‘des’ in front of the word and change the last letter to an ‘s’. I think this will allow to see the difference between dessus and dessous. Merci!

I just applied for a job where I thought only English, Spanish and Dutch were required. Turns out, their primary interest is French. I took one year of French in high school 35 years ago but I thought, wth? I'll go for it. So here I am trying to get to intermediate level before I get the first interview within a few days. 😅 This is the best channel I have found so far, and I've checked a lot! I may have hope. 😁

You translated the sentence "Si je gagne, j'achète une voiture" as "If I win, I buy a car". I would actually prefer to use the simple future for the second part of the sentence: "If I win, I will buy a car". Any native English speaker to agree or disagree?

The problem teaching French to Anglos is that they insist on taking French back to English (as if to verify its correctness). I'm as guilty as anyone. The secret: forget English syntax; learn French.
@LearnFrenchLesson
@LearnFrenchLesson 2 жыл бұрын
C'est correct Manfred! In English we would say the future of 'to buy' after a SI clause. MAIS (but) in French, it works to have IF (present) then (present) however it's usually for events that happen regularly and as a rule. Winning the lottery might not be a very regular thing (for me at least!) but you can try other SI examples: Si je suis en retard, je m'excuse toujours. S'il pleut le matin, elle prend son parapluie :)

Many thanks, Geraldine, for bringing together some important elements of spoken French in one video. Regarding Sortir and Partir, actually, there is a pretty good match in English for these verbs and, so I have had no difficulty differentiating between the two. Sortir - to step/go out (of the room, or the house) Partir - to leave.
