Add a medium size paper binder (clip) from any office supply store to use to keep hotel curtains closed. Clip curtains closed at the bottom with a bit of overlap. Sometimes you need to sleep in. As a former airline pilot, I learned to get more sleep with this hack. Who wants a blast of sunlight streaming in through a crack in your curtains? A wonderful flight attendant shared that one with me on my very first trip.

Hi, I have been traveling with only one bag only for 20+ years. I realized very early that wheels add weight to your suitcase, a couple of pounds, and you have to carry it using your hands at least 50% of the time. SO I travel with either a backpack or a small bag. It is better to use soft bags rather than hard shell suitcases. And keep it even lighter than possible.
@JBass33
@JBass33 5 жыл бұрын
Nothing quite like having to spread out your stuff on the airport floor to decide what you can throw away to make the weight limit on your flight home. And sometimes the airline won’t let you take extra weight even if you are willing to pay for it. It convinced me that a luggage scale is crucial.

As an aviator for 40 years and a 1 bag only traveler for those 40 years and more than 3,000 trips I don't know any PROFESSIONAL who STILL uses packing cubes. Every experienced traveler that I know uses one gallon Ziploc bags which saves an amazing amount of space because you can easily squeeze out all the air and it takes up less space. What would a ziplock bag you can easily see what's inside everything no guessing. Finally if anything happens to leak your whole bag is not ruined which is something you cannot do with cubes

Instead of a beach towel, I take a microfiber towel in its own zipper bag. It weighs almost nothing compared to the bulky beach towel and has dual purposes. When folded in its bag it serves as a pillow or back cushion and as a beach towel it dries quickly. It can also serve as a wrap or blanket on the flight. I never use the bulky beach towels anymore, even when I drive to the beach.

I totally agree with what you say about rolling clothes when packing them. For brushing teeth, I use some toothpaste tablets. The particular ones I use thankfully don't contain fluoride. I also have a shampoo bar, soap bar, deodorant stick and a conditioner bar. The shampoo and conditioner bars in particular last for so long! They take up very little space in my bag, so can put the pars in their tins and off we go. The jar of toothpaste tablets is tiny too, so you can reuse it for say chopped or ground herbs or spices etc. That's what I plan to do with mine anyway. Those last for ages too since you only use one at a time.

Here's also a little hack: Bring along (in your liquids bag) a container with washing detergent. So you can easily wash dirty clothes in the sink and in the end, you don't have to bring along a lot of clothes for every single day. Also: make sure to check out the carry-on policies of your airline. They can vary by a lot. From a carry-on without any weight restrictions to 10/8/6 kg. Also the sizes are not universal, and some airlines only allow you to only take a personal item with you.

Sephora will give you three free samples from each of their categories of products (so three free skin care, three free fragrance, three free makeup). All you have to do is ask. Added bonus is that the (albeit small) containers that they use are washable and reusable so you can use the containers again on future trips (and these containers are also free....)

Thanks for this! Your videos are awesome. If I might add my own hack; I would implore people to look up wrinkle free, odor free fabrics for travel clothing. Instead of trying to pack 5 days of shirts you can settle for 1-2 with the right fabrics. Also packing some detergent to wash clothes in a sink/tub isn't a bad idea, so long as the water's fine to wash things in where you're going.

Enjoying this series of videos while waiting for the World to reopen, thanks for keeping us informed/amused. One thing I used to hate about travelling was that you can never seem to buy "travel" sized toothpaste anymore (or is it just the UK?). Everybody seems to think you need a jumbo-sized tube but for a solo traveller on a short trip (and having had a brand new 150ml tube confiscated going through security: "I'm sorry sir, it must be less than 100ml!") this video on "customising" a larger tube for travel might be useful. There are even ways to refill your mini toothpaste tube 'mouth-to-mouth'! Let "Roman" help you out kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y9Kiq7NhupzLfWg.html

Time and time and time, again, I always hear that the 100 ml (or 3 oz) liquid containers should be collected in a zip-lock bag of no more than 1 L (or 1 Qt). That is one of the most useless pieces of information that one can give. Have you EVER seen a box of zip-lock bags at the grocery store (or wherever you buy them) that declare each bag's volume (in mL, L or Qt)?? I haven't. So, PLEASE state the flat dimensions of the bag (like it shows on the zip-lock bag boxes, such as X cm by Y cm, or whatever) so people will know what size to buy when they are preparing to travel. Stating that the bag must be at most 1 L or 1 Qt is absolutely useless when looking for the right size at the store. If you want, you could state both the flat dimensions and the volumetric size of the bag, but stating the flat dimensions is absolutely essential. The TSA and CATSA/ATSCA are also notorious for failing to add this information. (Well, they are notorious for a lot of other reasons too, but this is one of them.) So, just what ARE the linear flat dimensions of the 1 L (or 1 Qt) liquids zip-lock bag?

@@leohoward7282 granted this reply is in March of 2023; hope it helps. We will skip the dresses bc I find them uncomfortable. Yet I reduce space needed by doing the three for rule. For every pair of pants/jeans I have three shirts/blouses to create outfits. The same for other items; I have a favorite embellished sport coat that is very feminine , it must go with at least three outfits or it doesn’t go. Same with shoes - one pair of simple and easy, one pair of sneakers, and I’ll be wearing my heavy/clunky walking boots on board. And yes, they go with nearly everything I’m packing bc I will walk them on every outing so my ankles are supported. I hope this has helped you.
