This idea of videoclip came from Jared’s dream. That’s why we see the phrase “this is not reality, this is a dream”. What I get from the song meaning is what the person living in a loop with his problems feels like, it’s like a hurricane that chases us no matter what and where you go, destroying your peace and mental health. We survive the chaos we live in, but sometimes hits so strong and leave scars and there’s is the perfect line “do you really want me dead ou alive to torture from my sins?” We manage to face so many things and sometimes we feel tired and have ours doubts. The videoclip is a chaos as ours deep emotions, desires and fears. Like a dream, we don’t have all the control. We lost so many time trying to escape (btw this is the name of the first song played in this vídeo) and it take us to the wrong choices, as you saw, Jared was escaping from that man, Shannon was going after the wrong choices, Tomo was the only one in this videoclip who seemed to find a different direction, btw, Tomo was the one who found that note “find the argus apocraphex” wich means “find our secrects, hidden message” a nygma from the secrets meanings of their message. Ah, forgot to mention that he was the one who fought from the very beginning for things he believes it’s right, not based on desires (Shannon did) or fears (like Jared). When Jared in the videoclip found out he must stop running away, he came after that man and fight him back, he does it after experience a difficult moment (when he’d probably be dead at the cofin) and reborn with the messages that the little kids wrote on the street and showed up in his body. A lot of the written phrases and symbols are used by them many times and there’s a strong meanings on it, most of them is telling us to be brave, fight for our dreams and what we believe. Then, after he’s full of this messages (he just found the Argus apocraphex) and he kind of reborn after a hard time facing his own demons, he FINALLY faces his fears, the fight scene between Jared and the man in a black suit. At the end, we have flashes and one of them is Jared’s hand holding a butterfly, the symbol of metamorphosis. And the sexual things is part of the humanity, the desire wich we sometimes use as an escape from the fears. In conclusion, what I get when I listen and watch Hurricane is the necessity to fight our demons before it comes to us, like a hunter (need to say that: there’s a scene here where they play Night of the Hunter, another song from this album) prepared to chase you for the rest of your life and making you fail every single time.

This video was Jared Leto's idea. He created it and directed it too (Bartholomew Cubbins is his artistic name). He directs all Thirty Seconds to Mars videos. Basically this video represents a dream. It's about facing one's fears.

This entire music video is just a visualization of how different people cope with their fears, nightmares, demons, etc. You see the different perspectives portrayed by each character.

I feel like when it has the coffins with the flag and the lyrics 'would you kill to prove you're right' could be referencing war. A lot of songs like this seem to have a lot of ideas put together into a song rather than just one meaning. I'm amazed you managed to put this on youtube, haha!

It's literally fear, fear of the unknown and fighting your fears

In my opinion the video is about our inner fight with our demons and how lost we can get sometimes. All our emotions, doubts and dreams. It ends with part of Edgar Allan Poe's poem, The Raven. A poet who was emotionally traumatized and struggled with abandonment, grief and alcohol addiction through most of his life. He spent his last days hallucinating and was found dead on the streets dressed in someone else's clothes (from what I read). His death remains a mystery.

I think this is the first time iv'e watched the unedited video, but I can say the unedited video makes just as much sense as this. The song itself is good though. I enjoy listening to it. If I would take a very hesitant guess about the meaning of the song/video, maybe it's about how certain societal power structures limit diverse ways of living/being and thus driving them to be underground. Like how a gay person can be driven to remain closeted. And it's also about that conflict for human rights. But who really knows?

I'd watched a "films I've been in " with Jared Leto the other day and then the Hurricane video appeared on my feed - well - 😍😎. Loved it. I then watched the "making of" where Jared says it's just a bad and sexy dream sequence. Hey, it works for me. Great song.
