@@Xyphren it's just lack of space. Since we do a 30 day quarantine, we run out. We are getting ready to add on an expansion to fix the issue. We will have shrimp in stock this weekend

At the beginning you said that this was a new supplier, would you order from them again? Also since it was only the corys that were bad, do you think that is evidence of cory cats do release some type of toxin or something?

BTW, the Boraras Merah, merah is actually red in Malay and Indonesian.

I was thinking the same. That many frightened corys in one bag would be a major problem.

naa, the bags are additionally filled with pure Oxygen, usually enough for 2-3 days.

Cory's can produce a toxin. They probably killed themselves.

Plenty of oxygen if they used pure oxygen. Problem is ammonia and pH swings.

This is not the case. While the bag is sealed co2 can not escape, and also the fish themselves produce co2. CO2 forms carbonic acid in water which drives the pH down. With a pH substantially lower than that of normal, all the ammonia the fish produces during shipping ionizes, or turns into ammonium, which is substantially less toxic, at least during the short time during shipping. Once the bag is opened however, the ph will rise and ammonia will spike rapidly. This is why fish that have been shipped are not acclimatised and are dumped straight from bag as soon as opened into aquarium. These Corys literally poisoned themselves. All Corys have a defence mechanism when stressed where the fish releases toxins as a defence mechanism. This works great in nature but is lethal to the fish in a confined space where the group of stressed fish all release the poison. It is not uncommon for people to get home after buying Corys and find they are all dead in the bag and this is the reason.The Corys in video should of been far less per bag in large a quantity as possible of water to minimise this possibility. I had pygmy cories breed in one of my tanks I was tearing down. I split the group in into two tanks (moved the substrate and filters to one tank, other was established). Long story short, all but 2 pygmy cories died in the second tank.

I bought 10 at my LFS and lost one a day till I only had two. I was so upset . But the two that lived had 3 more and one turned out to be another female. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

This can happen to any vendor. This is how all vendors send fish. If they send fewer fish per bag, the cost of the fish would double since the shipping cost is the biggest cost to the retailer.

Not always. I bought a peppered cory with no pectoral fins. It had been in a tank with aggressive fish. It's almost 2 now and that fish is active and healthy and swims as good as the rest of them. Update: She has a bunch of babies. They are healthy and happy.

@@amandawitherspoon3988 I think what OP meant is for a pet store. Deformed fish can't be bred most of the time because they can pass on deformities. I say that as someone who will happily take any runts with deformities, but I do understand where they're coming from.

Interesting. I'd like to here where everyone gets their fish :P Because shipping is in fact legal under particular circumstances. The importation / breeding of deformed fish (e.g., telescope eyed goldfish or deformed "bubble head" goldfish) is in fact not legal. Moreover, shrimp are not covered by these requirements in the EU. "2 In the case of farmed fish and ornamental fish, it shall be ensured that the gastrointestinal tract of the animals is as empty as possible before transport." (2011, Animal Welfare Ordinance)

@@LastRaven215 Yes i know what you mean. I have to explain better what I mean. The fishstore can import fish (not all) but its not legal to ship living animals privat. A local fishstore said to me if you coud buy fish online they woud not make enough money. What do you think...

@@menschenfischer Frankly, I think that they do not have a good product to sell. In the US, shippers should be fasting their fish before sending them out to ensure that there are low amounts of waste in the bag. Most people are unaware of the issue and do not do this. Secondly, once educated many in fact do (see: Greg Sage from selectaquatics.com and his youtube videos or Dan from GetGills.com and his videos). Thirdly, most people in the US do overnight shipping or (if they are very close) priority shipping. Just like everything, there are people who do it wrong (see the video for improper shipping of Corydoras). The EU / Swiss import rules would NOT have done anything to save these fish. You need to ship Coreys in small groups due to their toxins. I will say that this is only "profitable" for fish breeders and hobbyists. The margins are slim and with fish deaths and costs of raising / maintaining fish, the expenses can be high. Also, a loss of a shipment can be an issue. However, I will say, if you are putting out a really great product, people will pay for it.

They can, but they rarely do. The bag being overstocked and ammonia poisoning was the problem here though. See some of the cories that died and ones struggling had red marks internally? Classic sign of ammonia poisoning. The water in the bag was yellow, you could see it. Ammonia built because the bag was overfilled, some fish died, produced more ammonia, and it snowballed.
