LYRICS:
In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing
And the sky is clear and red,
When the summer's ceased its gleaming
When the corn is past its prime,
When adventure's lost its meaning -
I'll be homeward bound in time
Bind me not to the pasture
Chain me not to the plow
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow
If you find it's me you're missing
If you're hoping I'll return,
To your thoughts I'll soon be listening,
And in the road I'll stop and turn
Then the wind will set me racing
As my journey nears its end
And the path I'll be retracing
When I'm homeward bound again
Bind me not to the pasture
Chain me not to the plow
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow
(louder)
Bind me not to the pasture
Chain me not to the plow
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow

I know you won't see this because this is an old video and you have a ton of comments but I feel I need to share this. As you started to talk at the end of this video I started to cry and I can't stop. What you said about that girl really hit home for me and I don't know why I am sharing with you what I am about to but I feel I need to. Earlier this year I tried to take my own life because I have been dealing with things personally that made me feel I shouldn't live anymore. After surviving that I realized that yes I want to be "Homeword Bound" but on Gods time and not mine. Thank you Peter. Thank you so much for all that you do through your music and I hope one day I can meet you and thank you in person. ❤️

Oh this hit me so hard. Io was in my PE class and she was one of the funniest, amazing people I have ever met. During warmups I always loved to run with her around the gym because her personality was so vibrant and she was an amazing influence on my life at the time because I was at a difficult place in my life. One day she stopped showing up to PE. I asked one of my friends what happened and she said that she got sick. I thought she meant she had the flu so I didn't think about it much. She didn't show up for the rest of the year. My life started to get busy after that and 2 weeks later summer started so I gave little to no thought about her. She was in the grade above me, so she went to the High School after that and I didn't see her again. I don't know much about what happened after that, or if that was the sickness that killed her. But I didn't find out about her death until last June at our choirs end of the year concert, when they were making a speech about her. I asked my friend what happened and that is when I found out she died... I couldn't think straight for the days after and I seen that night bawling in my room. But today I was browsing through my recommended videos and I found this and... this hit hard. Thank you for making this video. Even though I saw this months after she passed, it really touched me personally and I'm sure it touched others. Thank You.

It hit me hard when she passed. She was my best friend since I was in about 4th grade and I hadnt been able to see her once since she had moved. My mom had told me about her getting sick and I was so confident that she would get better because she's so strong and amazing. So when I heard about her death I was just broken. My friend and I sang this song for her wake together and it was so hard not cry singing it. I remember visiting her mom and brother after and I kept expecting her to come upstairs and say my name and hug me like she always did but she never came, and it's the worst feeling knowing I can never see my best friend again.

My grandfather died in the wee hours of May 24th, and my mother has the task of arranging his funeral. He was a lifelong farmer who got up and went to bed with the sun. I remember visiting and seeing him plowing a field or tending the cows as we drove past, and when it got dark, it wouldn't be long until he came home and it was time for dinner. When Mom was looking for music to play at his funeral, I sent her Homeward Bound, and it was "perfect". It fit my grandfather so well, it was almost written for him. This beautiful arrangement will always remind me of him. Thank you.

I am certain this comment is going to be drowned in the ocean of other ones, but I still feel like it deserves sharing. Peter, your music has inspired so much in my fiancé and I. I suffer from pretty bad social anxiety and mild depression, and he from depression and post traumatic stress. We hit our bad moods at the same time without fail, and whenever we feel hopeless your music is always there for support. Yes he's in therapy and of course I'm on medication, but it's nice to know that good still exists in the world. -Keep being awesome, love Cynthia

Okay, usually I don't do long comments like this, but in this case I feel that I need to. This past May, my high school was in the exact same situation as this one. One of my fellow choir members, Makayla, was killed in a car accident the week of State Choral Festival. We're a very tight knit community, and all of the choir people were really close, so we all took it pretty hard. Peter (can I can you Peter?), when I saw this I was almost in tears when I realized what this was for. Thank you, thank you so much for doing this video. It was a huge comfort to me, and it reminded me of all the good memories I had with her.

Courage and confidence will come, Redhoof. Just keep singing. Try singing in a choir first, then later a quartet or small group. You'll get there! It took until my senior year in high school for me to get to a solo - and I'd been singing since I was 8 years old.

I like to sing, but a lot of people in my class at school think that I'm not good. A few people have said that "No one appreciates it." I don't really care what they think, but it honestly hurts sometimes, when they tell it too me so often. Other people think I sing good, but it still hurts to get put down. Thanks for what you said Peter, about people who sing and don't care what people think.

In the quiet misty morning When the moon has gone to bed When the sparrows stop their singing And the sky is clear and red When the summer's ceased its gleaming When the corn is past its prime When adventure's lost its meaning I'll be homeward bound in time Bind me not to the pasture Chain me not to the plow Set me free to find my calling And I'll return to you somehow If you find it's me you're missing If you're hoping I'll return To your thoughts I'll soon be list'ning In the road I'll stop and turn Then the wind will set me racing As my journey nears its end And the path I'll be retracing As I'm homeward bound again Bind me not to the pasture Chain me not to the plow Set me free to find my calling And I'll return to you somehow Bind me not to pasture Chain me not to the plow Set me free to find my calling And I'll return to you somehow In the quiet misty morning When the moon has gone to bed When the sparrows stop their singing And the sky is clear and red When the summer's ceased its gleaming When the corn is past its prime When adventure's lost its meaning I'll be homeward bound in time

I am in a women's choir in Hastings High School and we are going to sing Homeward Bound at our next concert. When I saw this video, I almost cried. I plan on showing this to my choir director and see what he thinks. I believe he will have the same reaction I did. Thank you for posting this so the rest of us could enjoy it.

I know this was posted so long ago and perhaps no one will ever see this but the choral director Peter speaks of at the end of this video (Mrs. Perdue) was my choir director all year. She told us all about this song and story and I swear a choir has never teared up all at once so quickly. This was so emotionally devastating and Io did not deserve to have such a short life. I can't stop thinking about this song and I keep coming back to it because it hits me hard every single time.

Not only is this one of my most favorite choral pieces ever, it's one that can invoke so much emotion behind it, much like your and Korol's story, it can be made so personal. It truly shows that there's so much more to music than just notes on pages, it can be an experience like no other. Doubtless this is an experience that you and all of these students will carry throughout your entire lives. Thank you for this, truly beautiful.

When the full choir kicks in at 2:23, it hits me like a physical punch to the gut -- every time. It doesn't matter how many times I've heard it; it doesn't matter how many times I've listened to it in a row; every time, it gets me. Anybody who doesn't understand the power of music should listen to this video.

I'm in tears and smile at the same time. I love this. I haven't lost a person I love, but my beloved kitty has disappeared for almost a month now and I hope that one day God will let her listen to our thoughts and make her homeward bound again. I really notice that something's missing in my life without her around. Hope is sometimes so hard to retain, but then you come across beautiful works such as this one and you find the strength to wait a little more... Thank you, Peter, for being here. :-) Love and peace.

I sang in a women's (students, teachers and townswomen) choir for a couple years. For one concert we were preparing MacDowell's beautiful "To a Wild Rose." Among us on the choir was a teacher who unexpectedly, horribly could not participate in the concert. Her daughter-in-law had just been killed in a car accident. We sang "To a Wild Rose" in her daughter-in-law's memory. Her name was Rosie.

We sang this in choir in 8th grade. My teacher told us to think of when you have to leave somewhere that ment a lot to you and tell it that you'll be back. I thought about that class because I loved that teacher. Not in a weird way but he made me live to sing. I've always loved to but he made me want to keep going. I'm in 9th now which is only a year after but I miss him. I want to go see him soon
