@@davidanderson1376 Remember that 300 is historically inaccurate. The Greeks went to Thermopylae because it's a narrow passage that negates the Persian numerical advantage. That 40 mile convoy that went to Kyiv last night was basically sent to die, they can't go off road because tanks can barely move in the mud, so they're stuck moving in a very narrow formation that Ukranians with Javelins and Panzerfausts can just pick off one by one as they approach. After the traitor helped the Persians route the Greeks, Leonidas told the bulk of the Greek coalition to fall back. 1100 Greeks, among them the 300 Spartans, stayed at Thermopylae to buy the rest time to retreat and defend Greece, they knowingly went on a suicide mission. This is why we made a movie about them 2500 years later, and this is why everyone is shouting "Russian warship, go fuck yourself" outside every Russian embassy right now.

In fact, you can tell Gerard Butler was playing him as being absolutely giddy that their situation required eternal glory by Spartan law. They really did become immortal. I learned about the battle of thermopylae as a kid, maybe 8 or 9 years old. Warcraft 2 was new'ish and I played a scenario where a small group of humans defend a narrow pass against an enormous number of orcs. The catch is that you can defend at a very narrow pass(1 unit) and that makes things a lot less uneven. Later in life I learned it was an homage and was very impressed at how far reaching that feat actually is. Good times.

I love how at 1:40 Leonidas does come off as kinda insane with his thought process at first and then he challenges the arcadian's manhood. True. The Spartans rarely lost any battles on the field, but were sometimes out-manouevered in the field of politics. That is how they lost control of a lot of their satrophy's and client states around 370BC-ish. However, usually they fought the Athenians (when Persia invaded, it was one of the few times the two Cities, usually bickering foes, actually stood together) who were pretty poor when it came to fielding a decent field army (Marathon being one of the few notable exceptions), but had an excellent navy.

Spartans had slaves? Of course they had. They lived 2.5 K years ago. Things were brutal at that time. Athens had slaves, and every part of the world had slaves. You have to acknowledge though that given the circumstances even that was advanced

See that is debatable. There are written records which are basically what we would call a sale contract concerning the buying and selling of other humans and Persian records that state the "Branding of the Hand with Persian letters" was used upon these people and Greek Prisoners of War. It was also sporadic in the sense that only certain parts, but still a large amount, of the Persian Empire had slaves (based on records) whilst other parts did not.

Well, yeah. But I still find it funny that the Spartans fighting for "freedom" against Persia literally had a Helot (slave) to citizen ration of *at least* 7:1. They had far more than any other Greek city-state, or obviously the Persians (who as a whole didn't practice slavery on a national level - that is a fact). And actually, Leonidas's sacrifice was completely wasted historically, because Spartans were the first of the Greek city states to sell out. The whole movie's plot is hilariously ironic lmao

Yes the Spartans had slaves when they fought for their freedom. Do you know who else had slaves when they fought a war for their freedom? America

Oh yeah, I suppose 600,000 Americans DIDN'T die in 4 years to abolish slavery.

WHY do people always associate slavery with America? it wasn't a strange thing, Sparta and America wasn't the only one's who had slaves, other Greeks had slaves, just didn't generally enslave fellow Greeks like the Spartans had done to the Mycenaean's. Rome had a unfathomable amount of slaves.

Lol seems about right for any powerful country. Realistically it happens all the time, British Empire, Roman Empire, Mongol Empire, etc. The world is not a peaceful place. Anyways im done since i feel like i have just fallen into a troll trap, gg.

Taj B If you truly now why the persians wars were fought and what was the concept of freedoom for the ancient greeks and the persians you will be seriously surprised. At that time the persian empire was much more modern style rights anf duties that most of the world, despite wha tmany will think

This movie is so hard. If not totally historically accurate, I like to think the Spartans themselves would have approved of it. Stoic sacrifice and unyielding bravery to the last- it really honors the legend of the 300

The persians, both in movie and reality, had no intention of integrating into the Brutish and undemocratic society of the Spartans. The Spartans were weak, and the weak are to be dominated. This has been done by almost every single empire on earth.It is good to reject facts and twist history to fit your world of fantasy, but only when kept within that delusional mind of yours.

@robertogurrola74655 жыл бұрын
@@zarifsafwanhoque4127 um you too are rejecting facts, the Persian empire was created because their way of life was about a cycle of peace and harmony. Their Empire was created to unite the world and bring peace to all as was their philosophy. They wanted to integrate the Greeks into their Empire to spread the word but the Greeks were culturally different and views the Persian emissaries as threatening causing the Persian to believe the Greeks were intentionally against them and therefore against peace and harmony. The Persians wanted to integrate Greece but the Greeks misunderstood and attacked the Persians instead
