Rainer didn’t change a thing after his parents bailed him out of $30,000 of credit card debt. Only a year later he and fiancé Faith owe even more. They bought a house but that gives them just one more reason to impulse shop. They know what they need to do to get out of debt - but whether they have the self-discipline to do it is another question. Gail has to show these two that denial isn’t the only route to a debt-free life. .

15 Years ago, I was $30k in credit card debt from Gambling and other addictive stuff. I decided to change my life around and paid off my entire debt. It took me several years to pay it off, but I'm now fully debt free and owe nothing to anyone. In the past 10 years, I've saved tens of Thousands of dollars. I don't buy things I don't need, only buy used. It's great being debt free and having money available and not having to worry about paying things off.

My family and I have been in horrible financial situations before and I had to borrow from my parents. But I NEVER plugged bc of it. Once I was asking my parents for money, I knew I couldn’t be going out to eat, go shopping, got clothes, or had anything I could sell. I dont understand how these people do that so selfishly.

I don’t meaning this in a rude way, but do you ever notice people that buy bye-bye it’s like they don’t actually own anything and everything they have is not even nice. They couldn’t even turn around and resell it for half of what they paid for it. It’s really sad that’s what I notice and all these episodes.

WOW! This young couple have a bright future ahead. I bet they smartened up! About activities to do that cost nothing; when our kids were young we took walks around the neighborhood and came back home for ice cream. I heard that some families in Toronto brought their families around the airport to look at the planes landing and taking off. It is a noisy activity and probably unhealthy but it is a show to look at the mechanical birds taking their flight. Public librairies have museum card that you can lend so you can visit a museum for free.

My bank account has gone into the negative but i can use cash i get from tips to get it back into the positive, its usally a few dollars.

Is it an american thing to be so comfortable with Credit card debt? Not that some ppl dont abuse it as well in europe, but the majority will have a heart attack if their 5 quid isnt paid off on the CC by the end of the month..

Oh this is based in Canads, but yes. There was a point even working 3 jobs I had to rely on credit cards to pay for gas and basic living expenses. I wasn't crazy exteavigany either. Just poor. And then random emergencies were more credit. I'm happy I'm not in that place anymore after getting a decent job. But I'm still having to work through so much of my debt from when I was struggling

I only use credit cards for the rewards and to keep a good credit score. When I purchase anything on a card, I pay it the next day. Young ppl will start with CC’s to build their credit, too many will get into trouble with them. It should be used as a tool, not to supplement your income.

Can somebody explain the math on the estimate of 1.8 million dollars by retirement? She said $800 a month, which is $9,600 a year. It would take 187 years to save up 1.8 million. Is she assuming interest or investments or something?

Yes. KZfaq cuts out a lot of the scenes to minimize the screen time. In full episodes, couples always ask the same questions as you are and then Gail goes over, or has them go over, how she got there with interest based on their loan types.

I think immigrants are not as relaxed about spending as the locals. They usualy struggled in their home countries and trying to build a life. Among my relatives here is the USA we first generation immigrant rarely buy stuff that we don't have the money for it. However the thurd generation immigrant and above you will find that they ambraced the culture of credit card and spending money they didn't earn yet.
