I wish the fov was fully immersive, like I'm sure some VR goggles are, like not just rectangular screen infront but like the whole screen should be the screen if that makes sense, maybe they'd need a different type of lense on the drone for that?

Thanks so much for the amazing video! Loved it & your sense of humour through it all the ups and downs. (Stu, I think that’s one of the best Michael Palin impersonations on the thumbnail (in the mosquito netting).) My experience of FPV is like riding a bike: you crash heaps when you start…, and just hope you haven’t broken anything major (or expensive 😅😬).

Haha, I can relate to a lot of this. Forgetting gear in a hurry - check, crashing the drone because you're trying to get shots before losing sunlight - check, car breaking down when on location - check. Must be a drone KZfaqr curse!

Aye, Stewart. Yet for my own drone work, I have no use for 60 mph. 30 mph or less for less mess if mishap! Slow for less consequential crashes. Really sorry you had rough going making this video. Thankful for your channel! Best to Alina. 🇺🇸💛🇬🇧

Also, I really recommend that you remove the centre point when using the motion controller, it honestly makes it so much easier to fly, especially at speeds.

Ghost branches...exactly! Yes, the Avata + motion controller is getting us exciting shots that I otherwise wouldn't get. And there's a cinematic purpose to them also. And it's the most fun you can have with a drone!

Wide open spaces, just stay away from people and things. Almost all of our stuff is filmed in the wilderness. Means a bit of driving and walking but it's worth it for the peace!

Would you be able to speed up the footage in post of the Avata and get the same effect as flying 60 MPH or would that degrade the quality of the video?

Speeding up 2x should be fine. Normally if you speed up too much it can look fake but 2x you can often get away with.

What is the action camera angle that you’d want for occasional sports mode cinematic footage?

When using the motion controller the Avata does it all for you basically and I really like the results. The angle is pointed slightly down but it's very much a forward looking point of view.

@@DroneFilmGuide hey. I meant for the Dji fpv. I’ve just got a camera mount for it finally, and am in manual majority of the time, but I wondered what angle to put the action cam at if flying in sports mode and the gimbal is taking charge. I know it flies at a bit of an angle, but just dunno how much it’ll compensate so dunno where to point my action cam. I’ve just got the small rig accessories kit for the fpv, and got the action 3 so should be good once I get a bit of decent weather in between all this rain and gales!

I just guessed to be honest - tilted the drone forwards and then centred the GoPro. I was shooting in 4x3 mode because the footage was going into Gyroflow for post-production stabilisation afterwards so that gives a bit of latitude to shift the video up/down if your camera tilt is not quite right.

@@DroneFilmGuide sweet. Is gyroflow a free software? I no nothing about it but it seems like the best option as you’ll hear about it all the time. So long as it’s not a monthly thing like Adobe! Have you done a tutorial on it before? It’ll be ideal for action cam footage of all kinds not just fpv. Cheers buddy.

Yes, I enjoyed some of the earlier (mainly Russian) FPV videos, but they're getting very 'samey' now, and give me a bit of a headache.

I was getting this footage 4 years ago on a regular FPV drone i built myself - why the grief of trying to do it with DJI gear? Don't get me wrong, I am eagerly awaiting DJI to crack the FPV/Cinematic scene but they are way off yet.

True, true. But the words "I built myself" just wipes out 99% of the potential drone buying market because it's a huge barrier to entry for folks who just want to dabble. The Avata + motion controller is brilliant for that 99% of us (myself included).

what do you think they need to do differently? I agree they're not perfect, but I think a mk2 DJI FPV with the camera from the avata and a beefed up carbon fibre body would be the dream. I started out on the DJI FPV, then bought a nazgul 5 6s, a cinewhoop and a flywoo explorer, then actually ended up going back to the DJI FPV for anything cinematic/long range, the flywoo is smaller/quieter and can take a decent crash, the nazgul is for when crashing is expected (bando flying), and the cinewhoop is in bits since it blew up. I actually really like the DJI FPV with an action 2 on top, admittedly the DJI's image quality is not great for recording but it's a great FPV camera, the avata seems to fix that with better image quality and gyroflow compatibility. There's things I like about the DJI FPV, there's things I like about the home builds, I think the avata is tempting but i'm unsure about it

Your analogy is like „why do you pick a family wagon when you can drive a pick up truck getting from point A to point B?“. It all depends on the use case! Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages. I fly with custom 2.5 and 5 inch drones and the DJI Avata. DJI has nailed it to get people into FPV without the hassle of building & repairing and battery management! I love the DJI Avata for travelling because of it‘s small foot print and the hassle free experience while travelling not having time to charge and discharge every time.

@@DroneFilmGuide I totally agree but do you think i knew how to build a drone at first? It's not that hard once you learn to solder properly, which again isn't that hard. I pulled from that scene a year ago and won't be back until DJI crack it. I no longer want to loop around and through tiny gaps, prefer cinematics but needs the full acro side to it.

@@clarkjames1510 same here, tempted until I saw the raw footage and how bad that thing really flies. I really don't want to have to put everything through gyroflow in the hope it will fix all the flight issues with the drone. That has to be fixed at the core to the best it can possibly be.

I still think it's a bummer that you can't go the advertised speed out of the box.. You essentially gotta spend an additional $200 to "unlock" the advertised speed. It'd be nice if you could do 60mph with the motion controller, even if it was a setting in the goggles that defaulted to 30mph, and you could increase to 40, 50, or 60, or something of that nature. I mean my mavic mini 2 peaks 35mph ffs, that's not really impressive 😕. I realize it's very different in FPV, but still annoying. If I'm spending almost 1k on an FPV drone, I want to be able to go faster than the basic deal I have now, and I essentially can't with this unless I buy the controller.

100%. Still got bites all round my wrists, neck, lower back. Probably the only day of the year when the wind wasn't blowing enough to clear them up there.
