The thought of owning an updated version of a Jupiter 8 and a cs80 for probably less than the price of a service on one of those original machines is pretty exciting.

I agree. I think that's the only think I absolutely hate with old gear. You turn them on and one day the power supply is gone. That just happened yesterday with my old TC Fireworx. So much messing around with everything except making music or sounds.

We are living in a golden age. When I was young, synthesisers were so expensive, nobody but wealthy people could afford them. Now, Behringer has democratised synthesiser ownership.

I hear ya man. I have been playing guitar for 50+ years, then bass, then keys, then drums... I never even considered buying a synth until I saw a used Behringer TD-3 for like $50. I had no idea they had gotten so cheap. So now synths are my new hting. It's great. 62 years old and music has taken on a whole new chapter for me.

yes. and owns a city in a very democratic country. only a few synth / pedal companies were swept up in the process or died. no one can argue against the appeal of the lower line. its great to have physical acess to unobtainiums again. their behaviour in the market was errr…mostly friendly… hard to stick to my principle of bying B stuff only used.
@g3cd
@g3cd 15 күн бұрын
Behringer achieves this by blatently copying any existing synths, basically killing decent, small manufacturers who still do their own R&D instead of stealing. This is not the dawn of synths, this is the end. This is not democracy, this is autocracy. Bow to Uli and ask for some more cheap plastic ripoffs with a very short life expectancy! None of these will be inherited by your kids.

Sorry but synths were affordable then, now what Behringer does is sell on mass, throw away garbage that isn't really environmentally helpful. Tell me how many synths from the 80s still exist, and then in 40 years come back and tell me if you can find any Behringer gear still functional. It wont be pretty for Behringer.
@ferenclucas2842

@@dankeplacei was there and it wasn't affordable for me, I could buy 1.5 used cars for the price of the synth I wanted. And then what did you get. Mono timbral. One sound at a time. If you translate the price to today's basically its 3X. So the synth I wanted would be $6900 today. The 303 was $500. $1500 today Td-3 is $149 today. Thats 90% off. That's awesome

Seemly, at the low rate I'm able to build my little moving studio racks, al those Synths will be on the market, and the choice is so, more hard, it takes me time to listen videos where the artistic side is expressed in a way I can know they are my instruments. Actuall, from Behringer, I have the Deepmind 12D, a great expander that can use integrated effects and a machine matrix, and I'm very pleased with that. My next will be mono expanders, kobol, wasp, first, and here I've seen few others I would love to be in store, because of their particular designs. More, some poly expanders I stand for, makes me in trouble, as I Have to build my wood racks, with some expander that will not feat eurorack format, so need me to find very adaptable rack designs (like bying two B2600, or hoping for an UBxa expander, or dimanteling one to keep also the Poly aftertouch kb, and integrate in a vertical rack the pannel. How ever this is the project I have when I will have the money to buy the B monoply, and the B SH5. So question about time, money, hoping all that will be avaible in stores, along😮 2025, in hard times we are.❤

The only thing that really bugs me about these clones is the omission of simple features that would greatly enhance the sound, eg: On their P5 clone if they implemented on / off / *inverted* switches for each of the waveforms, similar to the T-mixer or Pearlman oscillator, instead of just on / off switches, it would effectively allow the oscillators to produce 19 more waveforms than the original. The lack of optional multitimbrality with separate outs on their polyphonic clones is also a major oversight.

Am I the only one who loves Behringer for what they are doing for synth enthusiasts? Absolute classics for an affordable price. I could never in my life afford (or have the space for, or be able to maintain) a CS-80, but here they go (hopefully) making my dream a reality. I don't care if it's not a 100% perfect, I don't care if it does not have polyphonic aftertouch, I don´t even care if it's in parts digital. I'm a realist, not a purist. Do it, Behringer! You are far from alone. I go back in the Synth world a long time. I owned an ARP 2600 in 1972, then a Mini Moog in ‘73 and lots more throughout the years. What Behringer is doing is outstanding. I too am a realist and don’t really care about absolute direct comparisons. At one point I owned 2 ARP 2600’s and they were not identical. I played several Mini Moogs simultaneously in the 70’s and not any of them were identical. Those folks who are constantly trying to knock Behringer because “it doesn’t sound like the original” are clueless

No you are not! Uli Behringer has his solicitors to protect him with law. He is not stupid. This ( Behringer haters) is an age whereas the hardware synth is in comeback. Millions are now wanting to rediscover hardware synthesis ( learn it and to relive it all.) The ultimate synths ( in their time) are now old and electronic components are failing...thus Er ... ( Serviced!!! ????) Here we have Uli recreating these very much loved synths with brand new components and even ( extras) the originals never had..( MIDI)..and even more. Still...the haters have to winge because they have already spent thousands on " the real thing". The haters need to " get real" to whats happening now and just how many alternatives Behringer have to offer. We are in a society now that concludes the majority do not have the means to assemble " The real thing". Uli Behringer gives us the " Real thing". What the heck do you want? Are you jealous of a successful businessman?...that provides what we want? " If you are successful you will lose friends and at the same time gain enemies ...be successful anyway" Mother Teresa

I think it's great what they're doing. I'll let a judge decide if copying/recreating synths is wrong or not. I used quite a few Behringer synths and they sound great. But those mini synths suck a lot. I had a Pro-VS and still have a JT-4000. There's so much menu diving and with just two lines of text it's so complicated and takes out all the fun for me.

the hirotribe,ive been watching and searching for its release date for years.the guy that made it said something to the effect of it being what he really wanted the monotribe to be..i love the monotribe, i luckily finally got one used and modded for midi,but the simplicity and immediacy is a creative block jumpstarter,as well as the most fun synth to play around with,experminentally. im noy sure if it ever reached true popularity?

Wow, for me, it would have to be the VS-80 (Behringers Yamaha CS-80 clone) and the RX-78 Drum machine. I may also grab the mini 3 note polyphony CS-80 (sorry forgot the model number 20 synths later. The Linn drumm machine attempt is also exciting in theory and the VS3, I've always wanted to try that joystick and pin setup. It was responsible for so many amazing sounds for Tangerine Dream and Pink Floyd for example in the mid 70s. Amazing times and thanks so much for sharing.

It’s physically impossible for many of these to be exact replicas of the original circuits (but have 3 times as many voices). What they mean is they are schematically identical circuits but packaged into integrated circuits,etc. But this means that they don’t share the same thermal drift, or voice to voice tolerance imperfections of the originals which is why they have to add things like the atrophy modes to the UB-Xa. It comes down to your definition of identical.
@dankeplace
@dankeplace 15 күн бұрын
This is why when you do make something electronically more compact, you lose the essence of the original. Also the UBXa is based on the OBX, which sounds less inviting than the otehr Oberhiems. Like you said, more voices doesn't make it better, the Teo 5 sounds much thicker and pleasant, but that has a lot to do with the SEM filter too. They're both priced very similar, but they just sound so much different. Personally I don't think you need so many voices when the issue is weak oscillators to begin with.
@ktreier
@ktreier 15 күн бұрын
@@dankeplace Bingo. Pull apart any synth a Behringer clone is based on and compare it to the Behringer clone. Sure some sound close, but some are far apart from the original. When you buy a UB-Xa you’re getting a very nice 16 voice polysynth at a great price that you can undoubtedly make music on but you are not getting an Oberheim.
@dankeplace
@dankeplace 15 күн бұрын
@@ktreier the keybed was one of the biggest off putting features for me, it has almost zero wight to it. The Teo 5 has a reputable FATAR keybed, same as my Pro 3 and Take 5. Artuia have so so keybeds too, even their flagship PB12 has issue, uneven keys. My Pro 2 isn't as nice as my Pro 3, but it is far better than any Behringer offering that's for sure. Quality, not quantity is the game here.
