Mitch, how refreshing to hear your comprehensive tips on all things "flow painting". Came across your videos by accident, and so glad I did. Have been using this method of painting for some time now, but currently having had to tolerate a long hiatus due to illness and moving house.Watching your channel is keeping me focused and in the know until I can unpack my studio gear and get back to what I love doing. I enjoy listening to your extensive technical coverage about the behaviour of certain products used in different situations. AND AUSTRALIAN too.....whoop whoop, thank you!!! Am a big (Australian) fan. You are doing a grand job!

I usually work with Resin, so trying my hand at Acrylic Pouring. I started with cheapish paints to experiment and get a better idea of how paint works. One day I tried Folkart Lumiere, it was amazing, really surprised as I didn't expect the colours to hold. Unfortunately, the Lumiere is quite expensive, shame because I loved working with it.

Good Lord man! You are a wealth of information that would have helped me avoid a few situations in which I was ready to just pack it in and go back to sculpting and encaustic collage. I did take Shelee's course and there's nothing like watching her work. It is a brilliant paint recipe. You are the first person I have watched who explains the consistency of the pillow paint. For those of us in Europe it is so frustrating to watch our idols on KZfaq pouring straight from the can and like it is the most normal thing in the world. I got the recommended paints for the UK on a trip there but I was a novice and went through 4 gallons before entering the hell that is finding the right house paint in France. Still going, still loving it, still experimenting and finding my own style. Thank you so much for the tip about too much gloss varnish. You are a gem. Thank you. Oh, by the way - next headache is that Ozzie floetrol has now been banned in mainland Europe. I've been doing some pretty sneaky stuff to get the 'gold'.
@rainandpours

Hahah thank you so much Lulu! Yes the floetrol situation in Europe is a bitch to say the least! In saying that, Line Dvg in the bloom group is working hard to find solutions for you all, and she's one of the pioneers of the French recipe too. The French pillow and ingredients are listed in the handbook in the group, so if you search the files there for it you'll see them all laid out for you :)

Thanks for all the wonderful information you are providing. I was especially interested in how your paint is affected by temperature. I live in Cairns Australia and current temperature is 29 Celsius and humidity is 69%. I was hoping you would also cover humidity and affect our paints and the drying time Luv the way you teach.❤
@rainandpours
@rainandpours Жыл бұрын
I'm in Sydney! :D Humidity doesn't affect the paint so much as drying time. Higher heat = thinner paint, lower heat = thicker paint, low humidity = faster drying, high humidity = slower drying

I find it sad that so many people watch videos and do not hit the like - surely a greater percentage of viewers gained information useful to them than those who have taken the nano second to tap their screen on that like thumb - unless they watched on their tv of course 😊. Thank you so much for explaining your top 10 tips. This will help me with my "American" blooms and why they turn out so different. I am new to this type of artwork and I am trying to understand all the different ways to do them. This is so different than my favorite type of artwork which is abstract pointillism, but I am enjoying working with larger projects that these techniques allow a person with waning eyesight, like me, can do. Thank you again.

Good choice! As much as we love and promote TLP's we do hate to see them wasted and the frustration of adding those to a pour and failing simply because of lack of experience. They are amazing, but unless you know what to do with them they can be a costly learning curve

Thanks Mitchell... you are spot on.... I'm one of those who has to find another solution when the Aussie floetrol no longer is available in Europe. Therfor I have to find a substitute of some kind. I have found one that works for me when it becomes necessary. It is differently NOT the same or work as good as aussie floetrol, but if I want the make blooms in the future, I have to find a substitute, or hope that aussie floetrol will be legal to import again 🙂

You can’t get Aussie floetrol in Europe and cannot get untainted paint here in Cyprus so I have to use alternatives
@rainandpours
@rainandpours Жыл бұрын
You can get it in Europe from international sellers. I believe Wholesale Paint Group is still able to ship it there, as well as a few others. Fluid Art Co is unable to sell it for some reason but it is still available. You should also be bale to buy untinted paint there as well. What does the paint store mix the colours into when you want to paint your house? In saying this, not all paints work with the technique so I understand it can be a bit of trouble.

@rainandpours
@rainandpours 6 ай бұрын
I honestly can't answer that because every piggy has its place in my art and I honestly don't have favourites! At the moment I would say Zeus and Persephone are sure-fire picks but the rest are dependant on the colour scheme I choose on the day I paint

Once again thank you so much 🙏 BEST !!! Teacher on KZfaq. I’ve just recently purchased the Shelee Art eCourse & yes straight away after watching all the videos in the course my blooms improved tenfold but now after watching this video everything just makes a lot more sense, it’s like this video was the final puzzle piece. I especially loved the way you explained the layering of pigments in between tube paints & with the cell activator being a piece of string cutting through a sand castle that explanation really made a lot of sense to me cause it gave like a visual impression in my head as you were explaining it & everything sort of like lined up Aghhhhhhhh now I’m so excited to do another bloom thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏 the combination of yourself & the amazing Shelee is MAGIC 🪄

I'm struggling with overspinning and messing it up, which you showed in a video (thanks for sharing all your knowledge and experience!) and if I don't spin it that much, the paint left is too thick and the whole thing cracks. Advice?
@rainandpours
@rainandpours Жыл бұрын
It is a very delicate balance between the two! But I feel like you may benefit from thickening your paints in general and spinning more of it off. You may also add less pillow so that as you spin the cells don't spread as far.

Thanks Mitchell! This video has been very helpful! I was able to identify several mistakes that I have been making for a long time! I have a question, is there any recommendation on using opaque and transparent colors? Before the C.A, is it better to put an opaque color? Thanx again!
@rainandpours
@rainandpours 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! I don't take notice of what colour I put before the CA tbh! I do try to avoid pigments though as they make the CA go a little funky, so I'll just put a tube colour very lightly underneath the CA to get the effect I want. As for transparency I don't really take too much notice, however I do avoid opaques as they can create a film over the other colours and I'm not overly fond of that look.

Can I check if the Shellee Art course gives recommendation on products available in Malaysia e.g what pillow paint to use that's available in Malaysia.
@rainandpours
@rainandpours 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Malini. We used to have a few Malaysian bloomers however they seemed to struggle to find suitable paints for the technique to work well. We would be more than happy to have you take the course and be in the group and offer assistance, however you may have to do a fair bit of searching for the correct products. This can be quite expensive and frustrating, but most other countries have had to go through the same process and eventually we find recipes that work.

It's disheartening to hear about how Europe has banned the import of certain liquids including the Floetrol, and sadly not all products work the same. In the Sheleeart members groups there are quite a few members from Europe who are developing new recipes that work.

I think people are trying to come up with products that aren’t so expensive so they are trying to get other products to work. Especially just starting to learn. Australian Flotrol is so expensive in the states. So finding things that work that aren’t expensive causes experimenting with cheaper products. I’d rather spend less and other products do work. I also like not getting charged to learn you can learn everything on the internet u tube etc. this Sheelia art class is being pushed all over the place paying for a class . Ba humbug !!
