It feels like since Vietnam the military has played covering up issues rather than expected being upfront and honest like they do their soldiers.
@whatabouttheearth2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, after the war in Vietnam the Pentagon felt one of the primary reasons the US did not defeat the Viet Cong is loss of moral in the ranks and loss of support at home, and one of the main things they attributed that to was the news coverage which back then was fairly uncensored. This started an overall trend in US media of being more and more "sanitized". Damage control is a knee jerk reaction in some government branches like the military, especially due to its hierarchical nature and people worried about their careers being harmed when they did nothing wrong. So there is a natural instinct for damage control, so sometimes "cover ups" end up inadvertently happening when people did not intend to do a cover up on purpose.

The problem is they only sent 4 berets out and no armored vehicle with heavy guns, this is the army’s version of lone survivor when the navy only sent out 4 seals
@cosplayshop2 жыл бұрын
Actually, they were a group of 10 US SOF with a group of 35 Niger Soldier in 8 vehicle. The 4 men that was killed in at the rear in an unarmoured Landcruiser and without top mounted weapon, the other 2 US Vehicle have M240B machine gun on top. If you believe the after action report by the Pentagon (Which people are now disputing) The group of 45 soldier were send to capture Doundou Chefou, and they were already on a mission and was detached for time sensitive intel. The group then divert to do the Doundou Chefou mission because the original team (with Heliborne insert) were grounded. And they, the 45 people set out on the second mission. The group stopped at Tongo Tongo for rest and breakfast and also have a meeting with the local elder, Pentagon alleged that the elder was part of Doundou Chefou ambush and delay the group exit so Doundou Chefou and his troop can lay ambush on the American and Niger force. The meeting lasted 30 minutes longer and then when they depart Tongo Tongo, the American and Niger force were ambushed by Doundou Chefou men. The 4 US soldier that were killed were in the last vehicle IIRC (saw the after action report once back in 2018, don't remember much) and were inadvertently left behind when the column disengage, the reason they were left behind is in dispute here, the official report claim color smoke were used and the team leader did not account for everyone before they depart the area, and from the leaked Helmet Cam footage, some one high up think their vehicle was disabled (as they are moving very slow with Johnson and Black outside as escort or they are doing a tactical withdraw instead of a bug out. With the new information, The pentagon further blame the 4 men stay and try to do some rambo style mission. The entire group was blogged down and the enemy only disengaged some 30 minutes later after French jet arrived at the scene. When they recover the bodies, they found 3 men (minus La David Johnson) at virtually at the same spot and La David Johnson approximately 1 mile away.

Two were SF. SSG Jeremiah Johnson was a CBRN soldier by MOS. Not that it matters, I've been following this story since day 1 and it's a shitshow all up and down the chain. Really we should stop getting out of the mindset that we need to be operating in a lot of these places.

Being in 3rd SFG at the time, the Pentagon gave the best answer they could without breaching classifications.

The mission went wrong all due respect we need to stop Pointing fingers that this could have been prevented. Some things in AFRICOM (Africa) can't be told to the public because the ongoing missions so of course the DOD is going to cover up the story

Condolences to the families. The government has long been guilty of those conflicting reports. That said, when you put on the uniform you know that every day may be your last. These men died like the true warriors that they were, with honor and bravery. "GERONIMO!" from an old Marine who was born in 1964 on Ft. Campbell KY, home of the 101st Airborne.

Sorry off topic. I am ignorantly curious, why does he have a maroon beret with a special forces insignia ? What does it mean?
