Those that were marked as V6's were in fact the same vr6 motor. There is no possible way you could functionally create a daily driver with a true v6 engine inside their. One of the main goals of the vr6 was to be able to increase the displacement of the engine, while having a smaller footprint size of a typical v6 engine. A True V-Shaped Engine has two heads, while the vr6 has a head similar to an inline engine.

In the USA the mk4 gti was powered by 2 engines, one of which is an evolution of our vr6 2.8 12v, power was raised from 174bhp to 190bhp as with the euro post 96 mk3 golfs, they dont have the 4 motion in golf form, only jetta 2.8 24v, the US Gti's also ran 1.8 5v turbo as we do here, hope that helps

To be more specific Engines with a V-Shape, have the intakes coming in the center, and the exhaust ports on the outside of the engine to assist with plumbing, heat, etc... The VR6 Engine angles the pistons, while maintaing the intakes to the front, and the Exhaust to the Back. Anyone want to chime in feel free, I'm just a keyboard engineer :)

U know why VW fans talk about the VR6 so much, although it's not a successful and good engine? Because it's their only mass V6 in the late 90's. And what about the difference in the kg's of the cars and the volumes of the engines? It's clearly in favour of VW and yet the winner is... U know who!

Well, I didn't say that every race it will be MKIII vr6 > R32, however if your car dyno's at 201hp 194 Torque, that's more than what they often dyno at, along with your car weighing less, and you have a 5 speed vs their 6 speed (5 speed is better for 1/4 Times). It's a Driver's Race. Some Minor bolt-ons can definetly give an advantage, I'm sure you know this, Ultimately it's possible for one to beat the other.

From my understanding, the "4-Motion" in the R32's does not engage an AWD all the time, rather when front wheel hop is detected, the haldex clutch engages, transfering some power back to the rear wheels. Because of this, I left it out in comparing the drivetain difference between AWD and FWD, because had it been a always on AWD, the drivetrain loss, would have definetly put it in the favor of the mkiii on a straightaway.

@tornaciokan Actually mark4 Jettas and Golfs had VR6's as optional engines, they were just badged as V6's, but they were VR's.

Any Mark3 Golf, or Jetta would have owned that Series 3 Bimmer. Maybe, if the driver of this Golf had better shifting skills could have had a chance. The problem with Mark4's is they're way heavy. :(

This is not true. I cannot speak for all of BMW vs All of VW, but the Bugatti is powered by a VW Engine. I would like to hear from the rebuttal on BMW's end.

As much as i like both bmw and vw the 2.8 vr6 was in standard form still the slower of the 2. Even a 325i e30 was well capabke of outguning a vr6

The automatic 325i is fast than the automatic vr6 but the manual 325i is slower 0-60 than the 2.8 12v vr6 manual

It's VW Golf IV not III...mk3 VR6 would beat any of 325 or 328 anyday cause it's weight is about 1180kg! Mk 4 VR6 must be about 1400kg....btw VR6 in Mk 4 is very very rare!! Most of the Mk4's were powered by V6 2,8 24V 150kw. The real VR6 2,8 12V is 128kw and 2,9 syncro is 140kw.

In the video whoever said " u need to double clutch it dude" is an idiot and needs to look up and understand that modern day synchromesh systems are designed to complete eliminate the need of double clutching and the modern day double clutch has not turned into a simple clutch by just blimping the throttle in gear for a rev match thats all u got to do for a clean engage

This is a VR6, Americans did get the Golf MkIV with the 12V VR6 without 4-motion with 174hp. EU version got the 'V6' with 4-motion, but the V6 is still a VR6 but with 24 valves and 204 hp.

Yo bro I'm in the uk and my v6 golf is offset at 32 degrees which is a 4motion 204 bhp standard. The vr6 is offset at at 15 degrees I'm not sure what size of engine is in the vr6 but I don't think it's 2.8 24valve 4motion, I think its slightly smaller. It's funny driving circles round the bmws and scoobys etc when it snows. I've got video of someone driving my v6 smoking a vauxhall vxr at 145 b4 the missis was having kittens but it still had the power to go that bit more. Peace bro. B safe n watch your speed. Lol

Dan P Then they're badged differently. In Europe it's called 325i Coupé, the only iS model is that 318iS, which have 140hp instead of 115 in the ordinary 318i.
