Battle of Britain Light Pacific class 34067 Tangmere arrived exactly one hour late in Carlisle, the first steam arrival of 2024.
Platform 1 at the Citadel is currently out of use because of a potentially dangerous storm-damaged canopy, thus limiting the opportunities to handle charter trains without interfering with scheduled services. Tangmere's leaving coincided disastrously with an arriving Pendolino, but her very slow departure (was that a deliberate move on the part of the driver?) meant that all was not lost for those of us on Platform 3.
Major football crowds added to the fun!

Thanks. The wind was right on the drone's operating limits which didn't help the handling and prevented me from following any of the trains - can't risk losing it!

Back in the Late 19sixties we had Workington - Gartsherrie Block Iron Ore trains , Shap -Ravenscraig Limestone Hoppers, Ingot Mould block concentrated loads etc etc Raw materials and products from an era when Britain still had Heavy industry & Carlisle had a more * extensive railway Layout (* during that timeline they went via the Carlisle Freight / Goods Lines) now we have Tescos

I was surprised, but shouldnt have been, at how busy the station got to see Tangmere. Even a BTPoliceman tried to get photographers and passengers from the train to keep behind the yellow line on the north end of P4 - not realising that the passengers from a Dumfries train were walking along the platform edge behind him! Nice drone shots, I'm surpised you managed to get it in the air given how the wind had got up. Still not heard why Les Ross was delayed off Euston.

It was a bit hectic, wasn't it! I wasn't meant to be there - should have been taking part in the huge search operation going on for my next-door-but-one neighbour, missing since early November (I see in this morning's news that his body was found - not sure just where) but John from Preston had informed me that he and his grandson were coming up to film Tangmere so I opted for them instead. Conditions were dodgy for the drone, definitely on its limits and I kept it VERY close!

@@thirdengineer Thanks Brian - I'm fortunate to have Carlisle within easy travelling - an hourly train service from Dumfries operating until late at night - and very affordable fares, especially since ScotRail has got rid of premium fares for early morning services.

I wonder if Tangmere's driver held back a bit too She was slow away so things did not turn out too bad, as for the train I hear it was a disaster of a day due to a points failure at Preston they ended up only getting as far as Crewe.

@@schoolshorts I don't know I was wondering if they were put in a hotel over night and given compensation after being stuck on the train until around midnight.
