I used to work for TDK back in 2003-2005. I never understood why He-Man never came out. I worked on doing QA for that game for several months. While it was a basic action adventure game, it was very enjoyable. Always fun seeing games on here I worked on that never made it out. One funny thing about this game though, is we used earlier builds for doing QA training for new hires. It had a bunch of bugs that failed in really repeatable ways. This helped people learn how to write bug reports.

Thank you for this! Yeah its quite a fun game. i've been told stories that Microsoft was really pushing to move everyone to the 360 after a certain date. I think in many cases it wasnt that trivial to do given a new architecture even if the overarching APIs were similar. but thats just speculation of course.

Highly valuable and culturally important work. It's been said ad nauseam, but I can still read books written 300 years ago, while games less than a decade old are frequently almost impossible to play. And many of those books were just as much commercial enterprises as any game, so don't give me that.
@jasonsachinger3276
@jasonsachinger3276 2 жыл бұрын
I think you have a valid point for the released games. But how many unreleased books exist today? I don't think your argument holds the same weight for unreleased works. It is different for me at least and I'm curious what your thoughts are for that distinction.

@@fmsyntheses Someone in the comments seemed to be making an argument that knowledge is a human right and that derivatives of that knowledge should be made available for all as well. Is that what you are saying as well or is there more nuance than that? Are museums that profit from restricting our use of historical objects causing harm or a public good since you can "see" objects but cannot "interact" with most of them? At some level isn't everything an art? What say do I as the artist have over my art? Does that Banksy art that self destructed violate my rights to preservation or does the social statement the art was making carry more weight than the physical object? Who gets to decide?
@fmsyntheses
@fmsyntheses 2 жыл бұрын
@@jasonsachinger3276 I'm not into declaring things to be rights. I don't really believe in the idea of rights in general. At least I think it's not a useful perspective from which to discuss the problems that the granting of rights are usually intended to address. And the idea that everything is art at some level is infantile and doesn't deserve discussion. As is the idea that Banksy has ever contributed anything of value to culture. Ehat the artist should be allowed isn't a simple question. To my mind, if you can find a way to make your art available and benefit personally from it at the same time, that's excellent. But then we come to hypothetical scenarios like Da Vinci coming back to life and saying that no one can ever look at the Mona Lisa again. It's become a valuable cultural object, and if you just want to keep people from appreciating it, I don't see that as acceptable.

@@marble-q6j Basically the slow deterioration that affects discs over time for various reasons. If a disc rots enough it'll eventually become unreadable. @Aser6000

@@marble-q6j CD-Rs have an organic dye layer that stores the data. When you burn a CD-R, the laser heats up the dye and turns it opaque in certain spots, creating a pattern of opaque and transparent bits that encode the data. Unfortunately, this organic dye can degrade over time and render the CD unreadable. Commercial CDs don't have this problem, because they have no dye layer. Instead, the data is pressed into the CD during the injection molding process, forming a series of pits and bumps in the plastic layer of the disc.

A million years ago (around the PS2/Xbox era) there was a Game Informer cover for a game about driving around in a zombie apocalypse, with the feature being about rescuing survivors, upgrading your car, and going into a lot of detail about special zombie enemies who can rip your car apart. It sounded really cool to me as a little kid, but it was never released despite being far enough along to get a GI cover about it. He explain his reason because I think he cut his teeth programming and making home-brews for the OG Xbox. In fact the OG Xbox was pivotal for the creation of home-brew gaming on consoles as well was the home for XBMC, now known as KODI. OG Xbox was an incredible console for the modding community.

Has anyone played the road rage prototype yet? During the development of road rage they had a completely interconnected Map and had to rework it into separate levels late into development, allegedly because the PS2 could not handle the full map I'd be curious to know if this prototype was from before the change cuz that would be awesome

this was super cool to hear about! great to see all these early builds preserved. my podcast friends were theorizing that a lot of these were probably review builds sent to magazines, so I'm guessing that was in fact the case? as an aside apparently they previously released a prototype of a PSX version of D&D: Tower of Doom? had no idea a PSX version was even attempted!

There's only one reason I'm following the Xbox emulation scene: I need to play Tony Hawk 2X. I know 1+2 is out, but I don't wanna get it on Epic, and overall, 2X is much closer to the originals in style, and I wanna experience it.

Same here. I played this on OG Xbox and it is very good game with a great story with cool gameplay. I wish the PC version was better as the controls are messed up. It’s because half a budget gets spent on marketing. If they think the game will flop then they can cut their losses early by not marketing at all, which means no point in producing and distributing it

@@alessandrorossi1294 Im not sure that is true for older and smaller games. Back in the day a lot of games had vary little marketing. But you may be correct, there is a lot of risk back in the day of pressing discs. Im relay not sure when Holywood style PR pushes relay started, something like the cyberpunk PR push never happened back then for smaller games. First party games had some push (like halo).
