The Potato Reset is my book! It was published in 2017, after I fell in love with a potatocentric high starch way of eating. I was inspired by High Carb Hannah's 30 day Potato Cleanse and SpudFit's 1 year potato diet, and of course my biggest inspiration is Dr. McDougall. I defiintely did not copy Mary's Mini, and didn't have a full understanding at the time what Mary's Mini was. I often refer people to Mary's Mini and the Starch Solution, I'm a fan for life! Love & Spuds, Jeannine

The neurotoxin BMAA Is strongly associated with an increased risk of ALS. It’s highly concentrated in seafood. That and pesticides are correlated with ALS. I would imagine a great place to start would be an organic vegan diet. Perhaps do some research into detoxing these substances from the body. The BMAA is found in the brains of people with ALS unfortunately

The change of habit that we've been working on with our patients is developing a new taste for these simple dishes. At first it seems impossible but the body adapts quite well. Often it takes a few months but the salt and oil cravings go down a lot. Spices help a lot to add more depth. And we never discourage our patients from snacking unless they have very difficult to control diabetes in which case the snacking is something we build into the diet plan.

And don’t forget, most doctors “practice “ medicine, not wellness. Usually offering “treatments”, not cures. Dr McDougall came into my life around 6 years ago. Since then, I have become a plant based, live-in caregiver. I helped an 83 year old diabetic get off insulin, after being diabetic for 43 years! I enriched the life of a non verbal, 28 year old, autistic man. Got him out of depression, cleared up his acne and turned him into a daily jogger. The proof is in the plants!! I’m currently helping a stroke victim, get stronger. He is 92 and we’ve gotten him off all medications. The doctors and nurses tell him they wish they had his numbers at his visits. I’m always trying to spread the message in the doctors offices. Thank you Dr and Mary, and now, Heather, for sharing this important information that is so precious and priceless. This journey has been amazing and I wish I found out the wonderful healing power of diet decades ago. I worked in restaurants for 36years. Nutrition and wellness was never on my radar… At 58, I am healthier than I was, for all of my adult life. The plant based diet is the best medicine ever!!!It’s pretty much easier to eat right than be sick, in my opinion. For some reason, to the general public it’s unbelievable and not too many want to get on board. Thanks again for all you do, you are like friends that I have never met. If you’re ever coming to Southern Florida, let me know! Peace, Love, Plants 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

@@kardste8114correct yes - if someone has osteoporosis risk and/or has kidney problems in filtering proteins. They're not any problem for healthy folk in minor - moderate amounts, and are far, far healthier than animal and vegetable oil foods, by a mile. However, the starches are the mainstay of the healthy diet, not legumes, nuts and seeds. Dan Buettner in the Blue Zones cites legumes as a key component, but I believe that's likely because legumes healthily often displace the meat, fish, and poultry people otherwise might eat. Legumes shouldn't then normally be essential at all, but they're a great food, in comparison to the toxic animal foods and veg oils.

@JohnDoe-xk1dv all legumes are starches, except for soy and peanuts
@JohnDoe-xk1dv
@JohnDoe-xk1dv 9 ай бұрын
@@dj-fe4ckno, this is not quite the case - which Dr M has covered. Whilst there is the presence of substantial starch in legumes, as well as a small amount of simpler sugars, the protein content of most legumes is too high for these to be optimum as a sole or dominant dietary source for starch. I.e. eating ONLY legumes for the long term could cause kidney problems, and certainly would not be recommended for those with kidney vulnerabilities. On the opposite end: there are also small amounts of starch in many vegetables, those which are not grains or tubers - but not usually enough for daily energy/calorie needs compared to the grains and tubers.

What do you think of Dr Eric Berg recommended Keto and Intermittent Fasting?
@JohnDoe-xk1dv
@JohnDoe-xk1dv 9 ай бұрын
Berg is neither a scientist, and not a medical doctor, but a health influencer. He tells his audience, from my witnessing his material to date, a carefully curated version sadly of what they want to hear (sadly, perhaps what he himself wishes also to hear) - cherry picking and taking out of context the scientific literature as a whole as it suits him and his message. Intermittent fasting can have its place, but not the way Berg contextualises it. Anybody that typically ultimately tells people what they want to hear, and market it smoothly, will gain an audience: be warned. As Dr M has long said - people love hearing good news about their bad habits.

@JohnDoe-xk1dv
@JohnDoe-xk1dv 9 ай бұрын
Hi Anne, Respectfully, from the tone and format of your questions, it sounds very likely you're a newbie to the McDougall Program and possibly to whole food plant based eating as a whole? (both of which have been in place for decades now, if only gradually coming to the public fore). Nothing wrong with that, important to say if so, but just trying to gauge where you're at. If so: I'd recommend going to listen to Dr M''s recorded talk The Starch Solution (free on YT) first, and his presentations also on different subjects after (including for heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis also etc.) - much of which has also been free on YT. The McDougall newsletters and website also have a wealth of free incredible content. You'll begin to understand why this lady's doctor may have been out of line with what they're asking, and assuming; and why the diet is indeed more than safe - and in fact, even if she is osteoporosis vulnerable, why the diet might have helped delay it's onset for her, and severity, compared to the norm she may have had. It's an investment of time I know, but it's worth it's weight in gold, believe me for your future - hope you may wish to take it 🤞

You sound like a newbie here. To explain very briefly - blood sugar levels are supposed to go up, after eating in the normal scheme of things. It's why we eat principally - to increase glucose levels for energy. The complication is if somebody is diabetic and/or other metabolic disorders, and perhaps overweight - meaning they can't transport glucose into their cells regularly. But you would do wise to check out the talks from Dr M on diabetes on YT, and in the Newsletters. I don't know if you're type 1 or 2 diabetic either so it's worth just checking out that material directly. Healthy Blue Zones people eat copious starches remember. If that was a problem, they wouldn't be the longest living peoples in the world.

Fuhrman's original roots remember were in the Natural Hygiene movement, not the science on satiety, blood sugar, and starch composition - or the science of many other issues, for that matter. He has not researched like others in this field have (certainly not until recent years), but sold the work of others, and also built up a supplement business empire alongside. He's not a very credible figure to me, and his regime works on the backs of the findings of others, not because it was original to him.
