I used to work at a school district with about 220 buses, when the Temps would get below 0 Fahrenheit, us mechanics would come in upwards of 4 hours early just to get the buses started, the common rail buses didn't have many issues which we had about 120 of, but the heui motors like the dt466, maxxforce dt, cat c7 and cat 3126 would give us more fits than you could imagine. Those were cold mornings.

Interesting little fact, -40F is the same as -40C. That said, where I live in Alaska we can see as low as -40 (pretty damn close to your -35) and I have seen a lot of gas vehicles not want to start at those temps! That diesel of yours started up a lot better than I expected. Even my gas 6.0L Chevy doesn’t like starting at those temps. I mean It will start right up ,but its rough for a minute or so. Because of that I keep it in the heated garage in the winter. A lot easier on the truck lol.

I have 2.7 Jeep WJ CRD it is inline 5 cyl Mercedes. Went skiing Italy, and had -20 C over night. Good synth oil 5w40. Strong new battery. Started, ok. But at such cold engine is very loud, you have a feeling everything is breaking, like iron is hiting iron and idle is like fight for life, will it die or not :) Very loud noises coming from the engine. So, I agree with this comment. Your truck starts amazing at 35. Also, that diesel fuel is very good for such low temp. In EU, I think in witner -20 is what you get from gas station and you have to add aditive to stop it from turning into gel.

It's plainly obvious that you put much effort into maintaining your truck, more specifically the requirements for owning a diesel in an area where the cold is impossible to escape. Anti-gel, frequent diesel filter changes, oil/water separator maintained, and a couple of hot batteries! How many miles on your Cummins? Thanks for posting your video, which showcased how a properly loved and maintained diesel, sitting overnight in dangerously cold conditions, can roar to life in mere seconds when others have their hoods up, scratching their heads. This truck started like a champ, hell most petrol cars will not start like that at -35 - it;s obvious that it is a well maintained vehicle. My only natural conclusion is that when I see the millions of trucks on youtube not firing up and even warmer temperatures, is that either they do not have glow plugs, batteries, or the engines are well worn or tuned (in a bad way) or a combination of all the above.
