350Z HKS EXHAUST + ISR TEST PIPES!! (INSTALL + SOUND CLIPS)

For today's episode, Matt get a new exhaust for his 2008 350Z. The car originally came with a Z1 single exhaust, but it was too loud for his area. So he got the next best thing, the HKS dual catback exhaust with titanium burnt tips! It sounds so much better, quiet at idle, but a beast at full throttle!
The HKS catback exhaust is paired with ISR test pipes

I believe that the HKS and Motordyne exhausts are the only 2 exhaust on the market that preserve the original rich VQ sound. There are other exhausts on the Market that sound more throaty but completely change the VQ sound. The HKS exhaust really wakes up with test pipes or art pipes.

I have hks cat back and z1 test pipes for my g37 coupe do you notice an air sound when you let off after the non resonated test pipe like when you let off a little air releases

I was running art pipes with hks true dual exhaust on my 350z before changing the exhaust setup completely. I think my early videos have this combination if you're interested, but yeah, I love the sound of the HKS.

Virtually no drone with art pipes and HKS. The sound was amazing, and not loud at all. I have no idea how much power it made, I only ever dyno tested my z after swapping to Z1 single exit for better flow. I have one video, Z Nationals 2016 that has this exhaust setup, everything else of mine is Z1

@@jellofuel Thank you for reply - My options are either HKS or save up big time and get the motordyne. HP/TQ wise, I am just trying to compare between these 2 brands. My guess is 5-10 WHP of difference?

@@edcadiri8720 That sounds about right. The HKS has smaller piping. Something like 2.1" or so. The Motordyne steps up from 2.5" to 3" so I would expect quite a lot more power from the Motordyne. Also, the outlet on the ART pipes is 2.5" so the Motordyne is better suited. (MD = 2.5" inlet diameter, and HKS has 2.1" inlet)

Car didnt throw any codes. Try a obd2 reader, it might help diagnose your code better.

Yeah I actually went back to stock cats because it just sounds so much better IMO. The test pipes was raspy on higher RPM and didn't have that iconic VQ deep sound that I was looking for. I probably wouldve went with the ART pipes or Berks resonated test pipes but I can't comment on what that would sound like since I never heard it in person before. I have a video up on the comparison between the stock cats vs test pipes with the HKS exhaust to hear the difference

Any issues with CEL/SES light coming on from the ISR test pipes?

It's a bit weird, It does come on but once I cleared the code, it's fine for awhile but comes back on after awhile. Did that a few times and this time, it hasn't come back for quite some time now. I think the next time I'm under the car, I'm going to add a defouler for extra reassurance even though my ISR test pipes have the o2 sensor extension angled

Very nice! I wanted to see how the HFC sounds as opposed to test pipes. The test pipes gave it a tingy high pitch sound at higher RPM which I wasn't too fond of. I thought about switching it to Berks Resonated HFC or Motordyne ART pipes. Do you have a sound clip of your setup?

I have the same setup on my Z and at lower rpms there is some rattling that I'm not sure where it's coming from. The flex pipes are shredded around the outside but no leaks so I'm wondering if those could be the issue

They sound amazing. If you like the stock VQ exhaust but just want it to be louder and deeper, this is the exhaust. I believe the Ark has a similar design so they should both sound pretty identical. Either one, they are quality exhaust and you'll be happy.

hmm i would think there is just very slightly. especially at higher rpms.. but i wouldn't really notice it at all

Ikigai Driven new zealand. It aint too bad for the modified scene here but we do have some laws. Like our cars can only be lowered to 10cm from the ground. Unless you get certs on your suspension then it can go to 5cm from the ground

Ikigai Driven so exhaust noise and ride height are the main things to worry bout here. At this stage the only exhaust ive found thatll probs be legal is the invidia gemini. Which is apparently about the same loudness as the stock one

Some dude repairing my car (under the table from his company) crashed it into a tree. I love the sound of the z1 exhaust. I wanted to keep it for sure but the area where I'm living have a problem with it. It was way too loud. Nothing wrong with a true dual exhaust. I might go with the Tomei dual exhaust when it comes out

Where are you based out of. I saw the PA plates, I'm in PA too near Philly and my Megan exhaust with test pipes and Megan y pipes is loud af. Never had any complaints in my area. But true every neighborhood is different

@@haozhao3624 The exhaust costs $1200 brand new but you can find them used for cheaper. Just be aware of replicas. No back fire sounds unless you get a tune

Fitment is good. KZfaq placed music over my commentary when I said the bolts weren't completely tightened yet which is why one side was off.

These are real. Bought from reputable source and you can tell them from fake ones by the welds, canisters and exhaust tips.

@@dirtyr1937 You can tell by the shape of the canisters, welds, and the color of the burnt tips. The fake ones have more of a brownish burnt tip colors. The canisters on the fake ones are more edged where else the real ones are more rounded.
