Amazing work! Love the back story, sorry to hear about your friend. It must be poignant using the funds from his car for this, but also motivational. Keep us updated, looking forward to seeing progress. I've been watching Dom's videos on his Porsche too, great character. He will love your home made English wheel work.

I did most of the work on the Studebaker. He wanted to drive his grandkids around but I had to rework the brakes and wasn’t safe to drive. He didn’t want to do disc brakes because he just spent a lot of money on the tires. Rims had to be changed to fit them. I figured out a way but I think he was burnt out on it. I spent a lot of time on it and he showed up one day with the pink slip and told me to sell it and keep the money to buy my Porsche . I fixed it and tried at least 5 times to give it back to him. He refused and got a bit upset with me. Told me that I did more than any one else would. It was hard to except it. What made it hard is when I heard the news on his passing. Looking at the car every morning made it really hard. Sold it pretty quickly (Thank God!)

Thanks I’m trying to finish this project in 2 years but it will take a few extra months hopefully by the first of the year. I have a 55 Chevy wagon that I started 2004 and it’s 90% done just needs assembly just never get any time to work on it. 356 is more important

Good of you to give some encouragement to Dominic Chinea. I hope that the recycled lead works o.k. for you: as you probably know, the 'lead' used for bodywork is actually a lead/tin alloy and once it has been melted its composition changes, so it doesn't work in the same way. I'm sure that you know more about it than I do. It's sad the way you got the funds for the project, but the finished car will be a great tribute to your late friend. He must have been a good man to appreciate the work you had done on his vehicle and make a gift of it to you. Best wishes.

I clean the lead and remove the dross. Actually add a bit of 50/50 lead bar to compensate the tin loss. It works well for me. It was almost like my friend knew that he was about to die. When I found out about his death it wasn’t his fault. Someone was trying to pass a car in a utility truck and hit him on his motorcycle and killed him instantly. We talked about how we like to leave this planet a few weeks before and it was the way he wanted. Instantly . Good God fearing man and I know he is in heaven. Look forward to see him but not soon.

I’m glad I’m not the only nut out there. I always wanted one and had a chance to buy a really nice one 5 years ago for 1/5 of what it was worth. But I didn’t know what they were worth and didn’t pull the trigger. This one I did pulled the trigger but got shot in the foot. LOL

Greetings from Brazil! Thank you for sharing you journey with the world, my friend. Your skills are amazing and, if you had made more videos, your channel would have gotten a lot of subscribers, because the results you got are incredible. But, I understand that this recording and editing are boring, time consuming and get you away from the funny part, that is making the miracle happen...😀 Keep on the great work, you are reaching people far from your home!👍

@@ATfabNfix64 Brother, you've recycled the original lead into bars (never ever seen it before) and, if it was not enough, made "english wheels" at home! You should show off your skills more often...😀👏👍

Beautiful!!! SO much Work my friend. I am working towards starting my KZfaq channel building a 1928 Morgan RIP GN Special and my next on queue is a 1935 MG Magnette with a supercharger on the front and dual wheels in the rear with a four cylinder. I am looking for a 6 from a Jaguar Or(Ford) or possibly a V-12. Where did you find this gem . I saw the brochure but did you pull it from a boneyard?

Good luck on your channel . I’m just started a couple of weeks ago downloading stuff. Going to have a few more shorts/ videos in a couple of days

@@ATfabNfix64 Incredible my friend. The prices of Porsches have gone through the roof. When I was in High school in the 90's My friends and I bought and sold Porsches and restored them to drive. I pulled one out of a junk yard for $600 and put about $200 into it and I had that until my girlfriend drove drunk and destroyed the car. I found an awesome Karmann Ghia that I lowered, shaved and murdered out. I found a Porsche 924 right now with the original engine and fuel injection. I look forward to talking with you again.

Also I was a panel beater for 35 plus years I did an E-Type for a garage another early E-Type came in the car was a bare shell but painted all the paintwork was micro blistered we are talking 100 per square inch , the story was again bought from a Texas scrapyard the owner did not want and panel changed so the whole care was leaded finished painted taken away put in a garage and left there for a few years , the guy who had done the job originally got the job of heating all the old lead off and doing it again , the car was in the next bay to the E-Type I was doing , thing is lead is great if the panel underneath is solid if it's been patched the patch needs to be seam welded to stop moisture creeping through in the old days people used lead on rot but it's still a temporary repair it will last longer that glass fibre paste , we used lead for dents on new car's like on the edge of a bonnet or panel joints when doing crash replacement , I was shocked my second job I asked where the lead was and was told they did not use it but I talked them into it .

I really wanted to use lead and l’m glad I did. I really made sure it was super clean and tight welded seams. Still have to finish the rear section. I had to stop and wash primer it so it doesn’t rust anymore. I will still have to use some plastic filler but very little for heavy file marks and some low spots. The hood was so bad I almost dumped it until I found out how much people are asking for them. I looked at some and they were not much better than what I had to work with so I unskin it and ran it through my English wheel. It stiffened it up nicely ( no more tin caning). Had to cut out a small section and welded a new piece in. It’s had heavy pitting but nice and solid. I cleaned all the rust off and used all- metal aluminum filler to fill the pitting and some of the English wheel marks. I also used very little rage ultra plastic filler. Now it looks fantastic. One of my friends that builds hot rods doesn’t believe it’s the same hood. I’ll keep him guessing Thanks for your comments
