This is more than excellent, it is superior to all the other videos I have watched on the subject of fitting 35 inch tires on a Tundra. You pack a lot of very specific information into this video and that helped a lot. I did not believe a 35 inch spare would fit into the spare space even with the trimming you mentioned. That makes my decision to go with a 35 inch tire much easier. This is very well organized and covers all the variables which is exactly what is needed. The one area that I found lacking is a discussion of the brakes. First, I wonder if the added diameter and weight of the 35 tire and wheel will affect the braking distance. It seems that more rolling weight makes braking less efficient. Second is the issue of offset vs protection of the brake. I notice that Toyota OEM wheels have a very large positive offset which puts the brakes deep into the wheel. There is no way a rock or branch can hit the brake. Wheels with negative offset expose the brakes to road hazards. I believe the 1 inch negative offset that you have on your vehicle will still put the brakes sufficiently into the wheel to avoid damage.

That’s really well worded and much appreciated as I’m just getting a new 2021 tundra and going for 35’s right off the top but there’s so much misinformation and stuff all over the place. The wheel offset is so critical to maximizing tire fitment.

Dude this is super helpful. Straight & to the point. You should really do the same kind of simple breakdown/least amount of mods possible to add 37s. It would be nice to have that break down so people can compare. Great video!!

If you go with 37's without just stacking spacers, a body lift, or sky jacking your truck.... there is no easy way... it is very involved. Lots of cutting, Relocation of part of your emissions system, relocation of air intake, BMC, upgraded bumps all around, Fiberglass front and rear if you want them to full stuff. Then after cutting all that out you need to go back and make custom fender linings... I am sure i a missing... but 37's are a big lift.

Great job Nathan! Way to break it all down. So many variables that people seem to lack the bigger picture of understanding. Boss 4x4 makes front bumper spaces that push the front bumper forward a 1/2 inch so you dont have to trim any plastic on the inside of the bumper fyi.

My goal is to eventually go with 37's but I figured I would go with 35's till I can get some of the other items in place such as aftermarket coil-overs and UCA's. In a TRD PRO so even contemplated running 1inch spacers front and rear to get the additional room. Rims I'm looking at are at a +6 offset. Your video was very helpful on all aspects. I dislike how many people say oh this won't fit or that won't fit without truly understanding each variable like you have explained.

With tight budget in mind..I’m planning on doing 2.5 spacer lift upfront, keeping the back stock height, with 18x9 +20 Fuel Vectors with 35x12.5x18. With your info from this video…seems I’m able to fit 35s above just with 2.5 front lift with no BMC/UCA?

Nathan..I have 2020 TRD PRO and put 285/75R18 Duratracs(truly 35 inch tall tire but narrower) on my stock rims. I only have slight rubbing at full lock on the front sway bar. It doesn't bother me because I rarely have to turn full lock. I believe if those TRD PRO rims were less positive offset like +50 there would be absolutely no rubbing on that front sway bar.

Yeah, most shops give advice on how to clear 35/37's using street lift mods, they're not true off-road capable suspension upgrades because they aren't really off-road shops. A lot of them are just lift-mills for the mall crawler crowd.

They suggest to go with +12 offset max unless I wanted to try 0. So your video makes sense as Nissan and Toyota has really high +offset from manufacture compare to domestic trucks

This was all extremely useful information. I have a black 2018 Tundra DC TRD OffRoad with a tow package. I ended up going with an Icon Stage 3 lift kit, which included rear springs. I bought ICON UCAs as I figured I might as well do that while everything is being worked on. I also added a CBI front bumper with a 12k winch and RCI rock sliders and front skid plate. I chose 17" Method 301s in bronze, and 34.5 BF Goodrich. So far everything is perfect, no rubbing that I am aware of yet, and no BMC. I just got this done and am heading up this coming weekend for some of my favorite 4x4 roads. I am in the process now of putting on the spare. The guys at the shop mentioned that the tailpipe will be very close to spare, and compromise the rubber. So I ended up wrapping the tailpipe in motorcycle exhaust tape and then spraying it with high heat silicone. This is the stuff that people put on their motorcycle tailpipes so they won't burn their legs. Hopefully that helps. I am in the process of deciding between cutting the bracket or moving it. I guess moving it seems better as it would be nice to have a little of that stability that the brackets offer.

@@OutdoorAuto Well, I went the other route and drilled out the 4 rivets and I would never wish that upon anyone. You need a drill with a variety of bits, a chisel and small sledge hammer, a punch. A stream of small shards of metal rain down from above the whole time. I would not recommend this route and would have 1000% preferred to use my grinder to lop off a few inches off of each bracket. Oh vey.

Nathan I was told and I don't think you touched on it, or I mist it, You need steel rims for overlanding, I got Fuel Aluminum wheels so I need to change wheels right, Also I put after market bump stops on front and rear Brien, So going from your video my 2020 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport I can go BFG TKo2 35" because they are actually only 34.5" now I need a body fender chop or just reposition front plastic wall with new screws right no need for 2" lift right. Also how do you determine how far you can go off road and still make it back to the gas station with the Tundra 38 gallon tank being nearly full when going off road, I was thinking 5 MPG in low range I was thinking 50 miles to be safe then head back to the HWY, what's your rule of thumb. ?

Super informative video! But offset is completely dependent on rim width as well. What rim width are you referencing when you suggest rims size and offset?

Dang... I just rewatched the whole video because I was sure I mentioned that I was talking about 17x9 or 18x9 ... I just noticed that I didn't ad the 2nd part to the rim sizes. I will Pin a note to the top and mention the sizes we were using for testing. Good catch.

I have an 05 tundra with low miles it’s a limited crew 4x4 I’ve had a 3 inch level kit on it and been running 17” fj cruiser wheels with 285/70/17s BFG ko2s and loved that set up. Well I’ve let the truck sit for a while and it’s in very good shape for it’s age so instead of getting a new truck I decided to do what I want to my tundra and freshen tun tun up a little so……. I went and bought a set of mayhem wheels 20” with a -18 offset and a set of venom power terra hunter Mts 33/12.50 and having fitment issues with the upper control arm so I’m just going to lift this bad boy and throw some 35s or 37s on it. I love this truck and you see these things everywhere but you never see this body style really custom. so y’all pray for this adventure I’m about to endure with freshening up my tundra. It’s going to be a journey I can tell lol

I have 35 BFGs on Fuels with a -12 offset and I still have some rub after doing a BMC, im going to get something with close to zero offset that is as light as possible. I also have a 35 inch spare in the stock location and just had a light bulb moment since its on the stock wheel its probably absolutely worthless lol. Could you verify that for me please? In which case i need to get 5 wheels, I mean rims haha. Thx

Yes 🤷🏻‍♂️ For the most part!! I had to trim quite a bit of the front bumper but nothing too crazy, I can go full lock to the right without rubbing body mount, but to the left I rub a little on body mount at full lock. But I am happy with it so thank you for your helpful info! I wonder if it’s an alignment issue since there is a difference between the two sides? But they “fit” and it looks great!

Wheel size isn’t what messes with the speedometer- it is the overall size of the tire and wheels combined… so if you go from stock to 35’s for example you speedometer ends up a couple MPH off

I’ve been waiting on fuel wheels for my tundra for 6 months because they are still on back order. I’m going with a 17x9 +1 offset. There is still no eta on the wheels but they just informed me I could get the same wheels with a -12 offset by the end of this month. I’m not sure if that will be a problem with only having a 3-2 leveling kit running 35s please help!!

@outdoorAuto - So after a good year of use I found that I do have a bit of rubbing on the front inside when at full turn. I have 34.5" BFG (12.5), a 3" Icon life, Icon UCAs, an aftermarket bumper, and Method 701 Trail Series, with a 0" offset. The 0" offset means my tires stick out a bit more than my liking. I end up getting tons of mud and junk covering my truck. I also get that little bit of rub. I'd prefer to have the tires sucked inside a bit more. I am wondering if I could switch to the Method 703s, which have a +35" offset? Would that cause rubbing with the 34.5" BFGs (12.5)? I could even get a slightly narrower tire if needed.
