360° NYC Walk - 6 1/2 Avenue - July 2023 (Upscaled to 8K)

Check out this short walk of the entirety of 6 1/2 avenue in 360! It's actually a little bit longer than the "official" length of it which runs from 51st to 57th street. At 51st street, we were able to walk through a food court, then two small parks, which brought us all the way to 48th street. You might even be able to see me trip over something...

In 2011, the Friends of Privately Owned Public Spaces proposed the creation of a six-block pathway from 51st to 57th Streets that would be mid-block between Sixth and Seventh Avenues to ease pedestrian traffic. The proposal called for connecting public spaces in the area, that were not known to most pedestrians, into a pedestrian corridor and naming it Holly Whyte Way. The idea was presented to the Community Board 5 Transportation Committee and the full Community Board 5, then the board sent a formal request to the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) in May 2011.
In March 2012, NYCDOT announced the plan, with a list of improvements, to construct a new pedestrian-only avenue. The Community Board 5 Transportation Committee unanimously voted in favor of a resolution to support the project as presented by NYCDOT on March 26, 2012. The $60,000 project was completed in July 2012.

I lived on 49 off 7th when the buildings that comprise the last couple of blocks were built. I was there only long enough to see what was nearly completed. A construction site needing cleaning up. Nice to see it's all better now. Clever use of the spaces. There was a series of shortcuts that began at Vanderbilt Ave and passed through the side lobbies of several buildings between Lex and Mad-- you could get up to, I think, 47 St. I should take a look at that to see if it's still possible. Very nice to see!

@@WalkingCommuter Thansk for that, I have an x3, probably not as good of quality, but I have a hard time exporting more than 1 clip in 360 at a time. What editor do you use to combine 360 clips?

Nice work! I feel like 6 1/2 street is like a secret channel, safely hidden away in that huge metropolis! Do you have to slow your pace down at all when recording in 360? Thanks for sharing Gabe!
