I saw them when they were just starting out in 1977 at Soldier Field in Chicago , it was 38 Special, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Ted Nugent. Damn good show.

@@jeremytanner3724 Well said Brother Rocker !! I feel the same ! I've been playing Guitar since I was 12 . I'm 59 now. Started playing in Cover Bands when I was 17 . I'm from Upstate New York . I look a few years older than I am . So I got away with playing in Clubs and Local Pubs when I was 17 . I've seen a lot of amazing bands like . 38 Special , L. S. , Aerosmith , KISS (I probably shouldn't have mentioned the K band , LoL) , I don't even remember how many because I lived in Long Island and Manhattan and Las Vegas when I kept finding work with my Guitar . Talk about Dreams Coming True !! Me becoming a Pro Studio Musician !! But I definitely worked crazy hard to learn everything about the Guitar that I could . The difference now is , I never had the convenience of KZfaq to help me learn . There were NO HOME COMPUTERS back when I was getting started . I started playing when I was 12 , so I guess that means it was 1977 . And if there were any , my Family sure as shit couldn't afford one . So anyway , with my luck on Guitar I was able to see a lot of the '70 s and '80 s bands live . Oh I forgot one of my favorites , I was able to see REO 5 times . Back then Gary Richrath was one of my favorite Guitarists . Until the first Van Halen Album hit the Earth like THOR'S Hammer . I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe . 😃🎸😃

He was using the Line 6 set up first and Don was using amps - eventually came over to the digital world (Line 6 then Kemper). Today he may have gone back to amps, but as far as I know that's his rig

They’ve always had that chemistry and knew the recipe for making great hits. And at the same time, never lost that southern flavor. Their music crossed over and had longevity because they simply wrote great music. Glad to see them still rocking and sounding great.

I saw these guys in the very early 80s when they were touring with kiss in Detroit at the Joe Louis arena and they were so good. They were 10 times the musicians that kiss would ever be. They are still sounding great and the voice is still spot on and to this day they are one of the best bands that I have ever seen. I wish them all the best of luck and thank you for this video!

@@Straydogger That's what I thought. I just saw one of these guitarists playing in another band, in another video from about three years ago. I should look up the band so I can tell you who this person is/was. He's the short guy with thick hair parted to one side. He was just in another band. These guys are all side players. Yes, they are good enough. They are professionals no doubt. But these are not the original members. This is not really 38 Special, only in the name.

I remember seeing them in the bars back in Jacksonville Florida in the mid ‘70’s. The explosion of southern rock was getting into full swing! Don Barnes voice is unmistakable! Barnes, Carlisi and Van Zant were the best! Right up there with Skynyrd (original members).

It ain't .38 Special. it's Don Barnes and 4 or 5 guys playing .38 songs. But I guess this is all we've got left of one of our all-time favorites. And I guess we take it. Better than nothing at all - and still great to see Barnes and his buddies perform these timeless songs from the good ole' days. The good ones like these will never die. I'd pay HUGE money to see the full original band reunite and tour one last time. But I don't guess that's possible now. Side Note: Cool to see Don still laying down the grooves on that ole' Gibson Double-Cut.

Larry Junstrum died in 2019. Donnie VanZant retired because of hearing problems. Jeff Carlisi left the band a while ago. The others I don’t remember what they did.

Going to see them in Bay City michigan on July 21st. Seen them over 40 times since 1982. The current lineup is awesome. They always bring great energy and musicianship every time.

I saw .38 Special open for Molly Hatchet, with a band called New England who opened for both. Also Kansas, etc. Sturgis is a great place to see them as well. Great filming!

Prime example of life. The stud of the band still has the energy and passion for the music. The others are likely enjoying retirement but Don is not ready. Good for him. Glad he is still doing what he loves. Definitely not the 38 I have seen on several occasions but respect for him and the band.

Outside of Jacksonville Florida 1977 1980....just off interstate 10 my guitar 🎸 bro lived beside the 38 special recording and tour bus gas station compound....hahahah...it was like 007...true story ...no markings......he only figured it out because the cover blow up on the 🚌...he seen 38 special on the bus...we found you...and we rejoiced

Seen them 3 times the first time they were the opening act for Molly Hatchet. The next time Molly Hatchet was their opening act. The last time they gave us a free concert at NAS JACKSONVILLE after our return from Desert Storm. If Don ever reads this thank you from a vet be safe brother

Without Don Barnes there never would have been 38 special. His singing and songwriting has carried the group all along. I've seen them 4 times and EVERY TIME the Vanzant brother was no where to be found. And truthfully I never missed him at all.

Whenever band members change, there's always a lot of discussion about everything. I've seen 38 Special at least 6 or 7 times over the years (since 1994). I completely respect Donnie Van Zant. I believe he started the band. Don Barnes has done a great job keeping the legacy of the group alive all these years. This concert was a highlight of last Summer for me.

Been a pro musician for 40 years. I've been to dozens of concerts. Lost count. In 1983 I saw 38 Special at the Midsouth Coliseum in Memphis, TN. To this day it was the best concert I've ever seen. Energy. Talent. Guitar and vocal perfection. The mix was perfect. Don and Jeff Carlisi tore it up. Donnie Van Zandt sounded terrific. Two drummers in sync. Just the best performance anyone could hope for. The 2nd best sounding concert I ever saw was Steve Miller in '86, followed very closely by Bryan Adams a year later. I love to hear bands that sound as good live as on the records.
