I literally remember watching fan theory videos on youtube years before Saw 3D came out that theorized basically every aspect of Dr Gordon being a Jigsaw apprentice that they ended up using in the movie. I remember watching the movie for the first time and wondering if the creators just saw the youtube videos and said "Fuck it, throw that in the plot for fan service!".

It gives a backstory to why Kramer THOUGHT to make Gordon,Amanda and Hoffman apprentices. Because no way be saw Gordon limping away and thought "This guy could work for me"

I loved how primitive the Spiral traps are in comparison to the rest of the series. John Kramer was an engineer, Schenk wasn’t, and it’s one of those minor details that could have been skipped and made the movie make less sense. My only issue with Spiral is that like Saw 3D, it feels incomplete. It would have been better as a 2-part movie or as a TV mini-series.

I’m not the biggest fan of the Spiral traps. They didn’t feel like trap scenes where you’re urgent to survive. They just felt more like torture and death scenes

@@Dora-xi5ob That was the point. Schenk was trying to be a Jigsaw copycat without the knowledge to do so as a cover-up to weed out the dirty cops. It’s literally addressed in the movie when Schenk asks Zeke to help him.

Spiral's twist might have worked out better if they had multiple suspects. Samuel Jackson was indeed framed as a potential Jigsaw, but the thing is you just can't imagine Sam in a serial killer type of role, so that red herring wasn't that good at all. And the only other dude we knew who could've been a copycat was William, there was no other guy who we knew for the entirety of the movie so that it would come out as a shocking twist. Also the actor didn't have villain charisma whatsoever

I remember seeing Spiral in theaters and saw the partner twist reveal super early on. Not from his "trap" mind you, but during the scene where he's on the phone with Chris Rock with the "baby" crying in the background. I specifically remember seeing that in theaters and thinking "that's your everyday stock baby crying sound effect, they couldn't get something a bit more unique?" And they turned that into part of the plot twist 💀

I don't think Hoffman's backstory was retconned in Saw 3D. The way I understood it, the police brutality moment happened sometime after his sister's death, furthering the idea that he was since, slowly but surely, getting into the idea of inflicting violence to cope with his own loss. This was also teased as a character trait in Saw VI when we saw Hoffman listening to the recordings of that film's opening trap, or when he expressed to Jill his all of a sudden enthusiasm to become Jigsaw's sole successor. He was blackmailed into being a successor at first, but he has since clearly developed a dangerous liking to the torture devices. Otherwise why would he even bother carrying out John's will after his death (and Amanda's)? Saw VII made me hate Hoffman, but for all the right reasons. As a villain among villains, he was resourceful, commited, and unhinged. He orchestrated multiple traps in order to disorient the IA and get his revenge on Jill, and was succesfull. I was so upset during my first time watch when we saw him getting away with everything... ... but then Dr. Gordon shows up for a final "game over" and it made me so happy. I was actually a fan of the twist. A tad obvious in hindsight, yes, but when rewatching the franchise, that piece of knowledge made the films feel much more plausible. Plus I love the idea of going full circle to the bathroom from the original. Idk, Saw 7 has its share of faults, but I can at least rewatch it in the same vein as the prior 6 films. It provides a nice closure, solid collection of traps and a handful of interesting ideas of its own. Jigsaw and Spiral, on the other hand...

My biggest problem with Spiral is he made some games easy but others impossible. You rip your tongue out the way it would have been in the subway, you're dying. The finger trap, just step out of the water and you won't get shocked. The wax trap, even if she was successful, even though i don't think anyone could do it, i don't believe there was a way to turn the wax off. It was just all over the place. And Chris Rock's character is dumb as shit. For the glass bottle trap... he could have either used the trash can to block the glass from hitting the guy, or he could have just thrown it into the machine and jammed it. And he really sat there and allowed his dad to get shot up. He could have stopped those cops from shooting and still shoot the Copycat Jigsaw killer. Not the worst Saw movie, but definitely not the best.

The most infuriating thing about Saw 3D...nay, the entire franchise...was turning Gordon in to an apprentice. Maybe its just because I'm a Cary Elwes fan, but Gordon is easily the most likeable and sympathetic character in the entire series. And at this point there is no 'he has a point' defense for Jigsaw...so it just completely undermines his entire arc from the first movie.

@Sisren86
@Sisren86 8 ай бұрын
@@thisishowilive5690 Right, but Gordon as a character - at least in my opinion - was much less about justice and more about personal right and wrong. Once having his revelation, would have blamed Jigsaw for it all, and either died in the tunnel or made it out and gone straight to his family, assumed dead or not. You can't convince me that the natural conclusion for Gordon, after everything he's just been through, reigniting his love for his family and then hearing the possible death of them because of these events, looks up to the man responsible, shrugs and says "Ok yeah, you've got a point. I'm with you now".

I just finished watching it for the first time and I gotta say it ain’t bad. The idea of the killer wanting to kill corrupted cops was kinda cool and the ending with the hello zepp song is dope. Imo it was a solid movie and gets too much hate 😂. But the scenes with rap music was kinda odd didn’t fit the tone of the movie, and I like young nudy. Adding his music in a saw film is weird. Last thing, when the killer is explaining his games in the pig mask is goofy af lmao, it’s not intimidating at all and just sounds funny haha. But still I like the movie, it was pre good.

17:50 I’ve seen another KZfaqr say the same thing. I think you guys misunderstood. Logan went to war BEFORE this all started. He went to war, came back a broken man, messed up the X-rays, then jigsaw kidnapped him, saved him then gave his life purpose by forgiving him and making him his apprentice. Logan says it himself! He that he came from war a broken man but that John gave him his purpose. By that statement, he couldn’t have meant that he went to war AFTER he became Saw’s practice.

The 8th film holds a special place in my heart because it was the first Saw film I actually got to see in theaters. To this day I still recall having a lot of fun with it, and it did add Eleanor Bonneville, one of the most interesting characters in the series. On rewatches, I like Logan more and more, and I love the Laser Collar trap and the few John Kramer scenes. So that film I rank in the middle. Spiral… is a good film on its own. But it is lackluster as a Saw film. I think if it was instead a remake of Seven, it would have worked better. That being said… I recall being surprised by Chris Rock’s performance, Angie Garza was cool new character, and of course SLJ is a legend in his own right, and what’s not to love about hearing him say “You wanna play games, motherf**ker?” Saw 7… Ouch. The most painful to watch, and not because of the traps (although the Silence Circle is one of most cringeworthy traps in the series). No, half of Saw 7 is great. Hoffman vs Jill… was awesome, it showed what happens when Hoffman goes absolutely insane, and his Terminator-style rampage in the precinct is a blast to watch. Doctor Gordon’s scenes were also pretty awesome. What kills Saw 7 is its trap plot. I despise Bobby and everyone involved other than Joyce, who dies and did nothing wrong in one of the most mean-spirited traps. Gibson was annoying, in fact I laugh at his death scene. The survivor group was a good idea, but it was barely there and it shouldn’t have had anything to do with Bobby. Also, they needed to explain more on Dr. Gordon, especially since it was never explained why he joined Kramer after everything he was put through. Overall Saw 7 is okay, but to me it’s easily the worst film in the series. And no, I refuse to call it Saw 3D because the gimmick was unnecessary, and I won’t call it The Final Chapter as it was on home releases. It’s Saw 7, and hopefully there is a follow-up to make its ending better. It’s kind of sad. Saws 1-6 are so frickin’ great to me, it’s sad that the next three fell down so much in comparison. By the way, Chris. I have my own theory on who those two pigheads from Saw 7 actually were. One is very simple… Logan. He’s got the motive (Jill’s death to him would be comparable to his wife’s death) and he literally says “10 years ago, I came out of the war a broken man. Jigsaw put the pieces of my life back together.” Which means actually he was tested after he was at war, so his role in Saws 1-7 is completely an open question, making it add up for him to help Gordon. As for the other one? Well it may be an out-there idea, but the series is known for this kind of thing. My theory (pending anything that Saw X reveals) is the last pighead was… Eleanor. Even if he’s in her 30’s in the 8th film, my theory is she was one of the early tests before Seth died, one that Hoffman found and didn’t report nor find Eleanor, taking the puppet to use for his fake trap (which would be why he didn’t report it), and she joined in similar fashion to Amanda… she saw John’s methods as effective. The “Jigsaw Fangirl” thing was merely a coverup, and her being Logan’s alibi fits in this theory. Her reasoning for going after Hoffman would be that he strayed too far away from John’s methods, and since none of them knew he wasn’t planning any more games when they went after him, she would at least want to ensure any future games wouldn’t be conducted by someone who strayed too far from the ideology. So there you have it. Saw X could unravel this, but if it doesn’t and we never get a sequel to Jigsaw… this theory would still hold as possible. I still hope there is a sequel to Jigsaw nonetheless, I want to see Logan and Eleanor return even if they weren’t the two that helped Gordon. Looking forward to Saw X, I think it’s going to be another fun ride in the same vein as Saw 6, with elements of Saw 2, a combo of two fan-favorite films with a couple of spices of its own sounds delightful.

The great very movie of this franchise it ' s Saw IV , because it ' s a midquel of Saw 3 . My favourite movies are Jigsaw ( a decent movie ) , because in the past it ' s a prequel of the first Saw and in the present it ' s a sequel of Saw 7 , and also Saw X , because the future new movie ( and I hope the last film , because we know all life and all past of John Kramer / Jigsaw ) it ' s an interquel , a sequel of the first Saw and a prequel of Saw 2 .

@@stefanomenandro3732 The only reason I don’t put Spiral in dead last is because it is still good film on its own, what hurts it is that it’s not a good Saw film, in fact it was the most predictable one. I view Jigsaw as a pallete cleanser after watching Saws 1-7, it works similar Jason Goes to Hell in that regard. Be careful who you speak highly of Jigsaw to, some folk will get butthurt and attack you. Last week, I got hit with a comment accusing me of having “no taste” because I ranked Jigsaw in 5th place and above Saw 1. I was also accused of “not watching the films” just because I said all but two films I felt were equally great and could only rank by preference. It seems the film Jigsaw is the one people get really offended by someone liking, it reminds me of The Last Jedi or The Rise of Skywalker. Honestly this is why I never post my Star Wars rankings, as their “fans” can’t accept different views. Oh, and yeah Saw 4 is awesome. Most sympathetic protagonist, great detective story, introduction of Strahm, awesome John flashbacks, the time twist, the realistic autopsy scene, and of course, the reveal of my favorite character as the next antagonist… Mark Hoffman. I have Saw 4 ranked VERY high.

Jigsaw. Super unique and kepy me guessing thoughout and had a nice end twist. Demigorgan head was silly and I speak for the dead line was lack luster. Spiral. The killer was out for revenge and the traps couldnt be escaped. Great ending imo. A tad weird for a saw movie but had the element of a cool end twist. Also there was no guessing with who was worthy and who wasnt. Sooo mamy loop holes with John Kramers ways like 2 people battling to the death. This movie simplified things.

OKAY HERE WE GO The woman whose trap was dangling above lawnmowers and they had to try to kick each other off... That trap is literally impossible to pull off. First of all, they had to get all the lawnmowers going, and it seems there is no room to move around. Secondly, they somehow got two UNCONSCIOUS people to hold onto a horizontal pole and they DID hold onto those poles until they woke up and realized what was happening. That, right there, is the BIGGEST problem I have with this series. I cannot wait to hear some of the explanations people may have for how it was done. Please, humor me.

I really hate that Jill got killed off. I think it'd be better, cooler and give us something for the fans to like had it been different. It would have been better if Lawrence took Hoffman before he found Jill in the station after killing the cops. Lawrence being the final layer of protection that John left for her and that was what the envelope entailed or should have. It is dumb just leaving Lawrence as the revenge in case Jill gets killed, it makes no sense. John would want to protect her, not just have Lawrence seek revenge.

I don’t hate spiral but it was my first time being old enough to watch saw movie in theaters with a ticket I bought, theater was empty and I wasn’t blown away but I’ll always have love for Chris rock for bringing it back to life. I’m going to see saw X today and it’s actually a packed theater.. so I’ll have the true saw experience I’ve always wanted where it’s terrible or not

SAW 3D was Premiered here on network TV on a channel called "5" - Which premiered it as a TV style series in the same vein as CSI or Law and Order, which is what it also used to show too. I remember the advertisement's for it were very strange- almost like it was made for TV.

I still think they should have kept Agent Strahm alive longer. He was a great foil that the last few films were never able to replace.

Idk Chris I may not like these films thattt much but I will say the Love Triangle trap is pretty gnarly and one of my favorites just because of the reasons you listed, for me it was interesting/screwed up/in broad daylight in front of a crowd like that's pretty gnarly and then having the crowd not be able to help

Imo exactly the problem with so much of saw VII. Great concepts, imo mediocre to terrible executions.

It is really frustrating because that limping in the Michael video in SAW II, it was apparently the director, Darren Lynn Bousman, in a cameo. And he was just trying to give the scene a little pizzazz, and he decided that giving a little limp would be the way to do it. It was not originally intended to be Dr. Gordon in that video. And I told people about this commentary tidbit for years, and then saw 3d comes along and "proves" everyone else right. I was furious in the theater. I think I actually yelled at the screen.

I watched all three of your reviews in a row they're so funny and so good!! I actually love jigsaw the most after the first three, even more than three cuz it's not that good. Saw X really disappointed me and I lost my mom to cancer a year and a half ago and I cried so hard during most of the first half. It was a mess.

I thought the reason they were in a trap in Saw 3d, wasn't because of the affair.. it was because both of them were committing crimes for her affection

Saw 3D be looking like a days of our lives episode 😂. Jigsaw isn't that bad i enjoyed it right up til the end because of the another apprentice, the twist and that the slow pace was actually really expecting more from it. Spiral I think is a good spinoff idea but the ending again like jigsaw I got annoyed with the new apprentice twist because they could've made it a standalone murder mystery and the killer to still be Chris Rock's partner but rather let him be not revealed as the killer and for some reason Spiral should've been a Tv show because in my opinion the concept works well in tv form.

Spiral it ' s a movie stand - alone in the same Jigsaw ' s universe , and all 9 movies of Saw franchise from 1 - 8 to the new future Saw X , I like all and I appreciate all movies . Saw IV , it ' s the great movie , because it ' s a midquel of Saw 3 , and my favourite movies are Jigsaw , because in the past it ' s a prequel of the first Saw and in the present a sequel of Saw 7 , and Saw X , because it ' s an interquel , a sequel of the first Saw and a prequel of Saw 2 .
