The M1911, also known as the Colt 1911, or the Colt Government, is a single-action, recoil-operated, semi-automatic pistol chambered in .45 ACP. It served as the standard-issue sidearm for the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985.
It was designed by famous American gun designer John Moses Browning and was widely used in World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Around 2.7 million M1911 and M1911A1 pistols were in service within the U.S. Armed Forces. It was replaced by the Beretta M9 chambered in 9mm in 1985.

Most special forces still use 1911. For example, A MEU(SOC) 1911 pistol, built by PWS at Quantico, Virginia, is used by Force Recon and Marine Raiders.

The lowering of the barrel is incorrectly shown. In the initial state, the back of the barrel is raised and forms an angle of approximately 1 degree with a slide. After the shot, the back of the barrel drops and the barrel becomes a parallel slide.

This helps display just why condition 2 is a foolish and dangerous way to carry this weapon. There is nothing to prevent an accidental strike on the hammer from detonating the chambered round. Condition 1 or 3 is better and safer. Love these animations, BTW.
