3D FPV - Why aren't more pilots flying 3D?

Ok I'm hooked, this is my second session flying 3D and i am completely mesmerized by the physics.
I briefly went back to flying 2D and the drone just felt like a stone with the influence of gravity and many miles between 0-100% throttle.
3D allows you to do literally anything your mind can dream of!

It doesn't make sense to me that there isn't more of a push from the community to do more 3d flying and to push manufacturers to make better 3d flying engines/props

I’ve always felt like 3d is amazing for other pilots… It takes someone that knows what they’re looking at to truly appreciate how amazing it is. If you show someone that has never flown before it doesn’t seem to click that well. Even freestyle for that matter. But I think someday I’ll give 3d a go for the challenge of it.

I dicked around with 3d on my sim a little bit....it definitely makes it feel super smooth and floaty for me but it took me a while to stop shooting towards the ground when I'd throttle down lol

Hehe yeah resist the urge t dump the throttle, I learned with both sticks self centering, much easier, let go the sticks and it’s at 0 throttle

Pretty cool bro! I have never tried 3d but I have been thinking about it for more than 2 years. I hope I can find an esc and fc from my storage so I can build another quad. I read that we need props for 3d. However, you used regular props. Great job!

as soon as you set it in betaflight to 3D mode the resolution and expo is set perfectly, you wont feel it.

Yo man, the way you can't tell you're flying 3d till the last second is what makes your style amazing... such a sick rip, I mean crazy sick... I do have a quick question though, there were a couple opportune moments for a Matty flip and it looked like you were thinking but didnt.. does flying 3d hinder you on any tricks or make any tricks we do on a conventional kwad impossible on 3d?? Thanks buddy, That was my first time trying 3D so wasnt going for any tricks per say.... Yes you can do everything you can do in normal mode. You can also try to do all the tricks you know ''inverted'' whole new dimension to fly.

Hahahaha 15 inch props on Xing 4214’s @660kv. Im considering running Pixhawk instead of Betaflight so I can loiter, RTH and have way points. For an Xclass? I know, what’s the point. I just think it would be cool to have a giant drone that flies like a Mavic most of the time but can do insane FPV style flying if I want to.. Wudda think? Dumb Idea?

That actually is a pretty good idea, you should use INAV as they have a solid autonomous system that can be flashed to Betaflight quads.

to answer your question, i guess i just never felt the need to hover upside down. sure you may be able to do a few cool tricks only doable in 3d but it limits your precision in either direction by cutting your travel distance on the stick in half either way. i know some pilots who can do amazing things with 3d and huge respect for them for flying the way they like. im not hating on it. im just saying i prefer the standard method and i feel i would be more precise having the full range of my stick for throttle is all. cool video thank you for sharing

all freestyle pilots want more hangtime, you must not be into freestyle ...try it, you get used to it and have even more precision and quicker throttle response as you dont need to move the sticks much, thanks for your input :) you can check out some of my other videos and see, its a whole other dimension literally

You do crazy stuff, 👍 because of the 3D, I flew a 3D heli for a short time. It might help if you do a few flights LOS. So you can see from the outside what the copter is doing. Maybe it helps in FPV then? I'm not sure, just a thought.

You fly 3D very good i was already testing it but i have problems the first is the throttle must exactly in the middle for no spin why there is no rc with throttle automatic in the middle .. but you are right maybe i must test it again 👍👍👍

Yes Most radios can center…any side can be used as throttle, there are pilots who fly mode 3 or other. There should be some screw in the back where you can adjust tension and how much middling you want. Hope this helps.

loosen the throttle screw so you feel the indent where middle is...you need to know where middle is or you'll be constantly missing it.

It’s a mode in betaflight, you can set it on a switch but when in 3D mode the top half of the throttle is upward thrust and the lower half is the reverse 🔄
