Zircar Luminar Mold Mix 7 is a refractory mold making medium designed to allow the replication of three-dimensional objects in glass and bronze. Mold Mix 7 is sold as a powder and is prepared for use by mixing thoroughly with water until a paste is created. This paste can then be formed into the desired shape and dried before use. Properly prepared molds of Mold Mix 7 will resolve fine details and possess good strength. Mold Mix 7 molds with no undercuts can be used for multiple castings

Heating the outside plaster mold work with mold made with silica/plaster and water or just works in the one you indicate? I've never seen this method of wax lost before (heat the outside with torch)

Admittedly, I'm a little bit confused on your video where you're heating the outside plaster shell in order to remove some of the wax, rather than concentrating the heat from the bottom side. I thought the plaster jacket would prevent most of the heat from penetrating.

Hi there, this material is not plaster, it is Alumina which is a high temperature refractory material. It has very different properties than plaster and the flame is applied directly to the mold in order to 1) cure the ceramic bonds of the mold 2) remove there wax

Hi love the video. I noticed you mixed the whole container. I was wondering how long will the mixture last in storage if you seal the bucket properly. Another question I had is if your casting bronze do I need to preheat the investment before I pour the bronze ? Thanks

Thank you for your questions! Once the bucket is mixed it the paste will last for several years. If the mix dries out you can add more water and remix to the desired consistency. For bronze casting you do nit need to preheat the mold.

If one were attempting to mold several pieces simultaneously, could the items be dipped repeatedly into the mix with a little time in between dips to allow for drying?

Unfortunately we do not suggest dipping positives into the material. The material has fibers that help create the strong shell and when it is poured or dipped the fibers flow in the same direction. This created the potential for cracking. When the layers are painted on the fiber create a strong weave that allows the molds to remain strong and thin.

These seems like a very expensive way to cast glass. Equal parts of pottery plaster and silica flour and you're done, steam it out and off you go.

What kind of glass can you use.?

The blue glass is a piece of Bullseye sheet glass broken into pieces. If primed with kiln wash or another primer all types of glass can be used. These molds are also used for bead making and hot casting

This material is made of Alumina which is a type of high temperature ceramic. The application process and wax removal is different from the traditional method of plaster silica mold making

Using this bullseye release make you loose most of the fine details in you glass piece. Using plaster moulds will be cheaper and faster.

Yes, if the mold has no undercuts and is primed with a release (kiln shelf primer, graphite, boron nitride) the mold can be used for multiple castings
