How do we farm in a different way? How do we revive ecosystems through our farming methods? These are questions that Bren Smith, shellfish and seaweed farmer, asks himself. During 15 years of hard work, mistakes, and iteration, he created his business with 3D ocean farming.
Watch this DIF session, to find out what is 3D ocean farming, how it works and how it is reinventing business in ocean farming.

This is practically vertical farming, only under the surface. Brilliant!

Phenomenal , I had seen a model of growing saline tolerant foods as well. I think not just in the coast but also on the coast line and inland so much could be integrated

I think this is the most logical way of farming. For the future and now. Non destructive way of farming that actually restores the earth and having significant value of what you are doing. This is definitely inspiring. We have so much ocean space and yet we do farming on land. With this much ocean space we can all together rid of land animal farming cruelty and strive for healthier and sustainable growth in the agriculture ecosystem. Also definitely provides more nutrition per value than a chicken or cow. Ocean Farming definitely is interesting. Leaving a positive impact on earth. (Doing this type of farming actually does feel like you bring in significant value to your life)

I am from East Asia and I love kelp. I always wish kelp is more available in the US. It is tasty and healthy. Because a lot of kelp is yet available in the US, I have to look for other sources to get what I am looking for. For starters: kelp could be used to make great soup that gives soup some "depth."

Sir, I am retiring from Navy soon. I love oceans. I would like to grow marine farms like yours in India. Can you plz guide me to some training programme where ocean farming is taught and also how and where to sell it.

Can kelp be used in ways other than food & biofuels? I imagine using it primarily as something, like Idk leather maybe, would really help to not only make the most of its ability to lock in carbon & reduce environmental strain from other raw materials while also increasing overall demand

"Mussel Socks" It's basically a long tube of netting that baby mussels are put into. The net protects them from predators. And the mussels grow out through the holes in the netting and they cling together, growing vertically.

No mention of cost per calorie? in the end it is not “dreams” or “aesthetics” that pay the bills. these ideas have to be cheaper alternatives to land based farming. they have to have higher yields at lower prices.
