Right now I'm using isosurface for the majority of plots in matlab since I can't seem to set z by itself for the majority of functions I'm dealing with in Calc III. There are ways to graph ellipsoids and cones etc. But there is a separate command for each quadric surface that's not supported by the standard procedure (setting z= to some value). Then of course, you have the option of graphing both the positive and negative sqrt together on the same graph using the hold on command... overall, I'd say graphing in matlab is effective, but you have to learn quite a bit. It's certainly not user-friendly. There's no definitive guide online for any particular area like scatter plots and contours etc, that will promise to give you an in-depth understanding of all features associated with those tasks.

ATTENTION, IMPORTANT MATH WARNING !!! Try plotting the function z = x * y , we agree that 0*0=0 and 10*10=100 etc But here you make the mistake by converting a variable to a matrix and a transposed matrix with meshgrid. So when you multiply x * y in matlab you will multiply instead those two matrices! This is wrong and not the same as a single multiplication by elements you would like to expect. For z matrix you will get plain wrong results. Check it out! SOLUTION: use the " . " before multiplication and division operators if you want to plot function results. The CORRECT method: z = x .* y

I'm looking at Matlab videos trying to find a way to free-form select certain regions of a scatterplot to find the mean without going in and deleting every point I don't want. There are layers within my scatterplot that represent cells, and I would like to find the mean of each layer separately. The problem is that I cannot distinguish these layers a priori, so I map the results and then attempt to delineate the data.
