Superb Design! This is one of the very few things I have printed that just worked as designed, and I have printed a significant number of things!

Hi, Brent, I made ups the 3 jaw, it's brilliant, I'm really pleased how it turned out. I had to relieve the jaw slots they were quite tight and the centre hole in the screw plate, only a small amount of sanding and the vice came together. I think it proved that my Ender3 S1 is accurate enough for any task..

Thanks for the kind feedback Dave! I initially was going to post this as a torture test in order to manage everyones expectations lol.

Pretty cool! It would have been better if the jaws closed a little more. All the way in there is still about 15mm left from fully closed. I'll create some jaws in CAD that will be a little longer so they close all the way and just swap out as needed.

I'd love a video explaining the design choices and calculations you used to get the scroll wheel and jaw gearing meshing properly! I'm designing a similar mechanism but haven't found good documentation on that style of gearing and the calculations that are involved.

tried printing this like 5 times and asted so much filament but it keeps warping in PLA D: it's a really cool model tho... i'm debating doing another try with a slow AF first layer and this time use dish soap to clean the bed. or just use PETG as that always sticks to PEI great, Not gonna lie I miss my buildtack. everything always stuck to it without problem!

Hi Brent, I printed the 3 jaw and it is a fantastic design. I really appreciate the thought and effort in creating this design and instructions. I like the approach for the easy fit screws, are you able to share the method you used for the screw thread. I've done simple threaded bolts (M8, M10 etc) in OnShape and wondering how I could achieve similar screw to yours.

Thanks Ian, I appreciate that!! I designed this in Solidworks. I made a Helix and a cross section of the thread cut. Then I did a swept cut of the cross section along the helix. For the base where the screw threads in, I used the Cavity feature.

It would be neat if there was a pre-assembled version with dissolvable supports. Just print, put in water, and done!

printed the 4 jaw version yesterday. I think it should be useful when soldering, painting, or gluing things. I did the multi screw hole base part in black, top in grey, teal jaws and knob, and white screws. took about a full 24 hours on 2 ender-3s. Might print the 3 jaw version if i use this one enough. The one thing i didnt like, is the "align tool" seams wasteful, there has to be a way that uses less, or no plastic.....the tab over the thumb screw made no sense to me, again it seamed wasteful, so i printed it with a modifier that removed it. ill keep an eye out for your next tool.......... might try the dino chip clip too.

Why didn't you design this like a lathe chuck? Very limited hot having a hole in the center.

Not knowingly lol. I played around with a lot of variations trying to maximize holding strength with least amount of threads and this one worked the best.

I initially made it for holding items in my laser engravers, but I use it for hundreds of other things now. Holding parts mainly when I'm soldering, gluing, etc.
