Glad for the joke bot but radio receiver disconnects are way to common and I hate seeing good bots lose because of it.

I hate that too and I hate it even more when a robot loses when a removable link pops out. (Looking at you UK and AUS.)

I love that the robot entered as a joke & for show won by because the other one knocked the crap out of itself beating up on it! That idea of a foam body was 10/10 btw! The BEST part of watching robot fighting is seeing debris flung everywhere & that silly body made for a great show!

3:55 Your spokes are backwards, the higher force from torque is near the inside, not the outside. It also looks halfway hollow there, so you had only 1 perimeter of material making it fail in a very weak area, that's just a design issue and should have been made thicker in that section.

Otherwise its a pretty good bot, I like the design and it looks like the rest was pretty well made. I'd love to go to some of those competitions, looks like a crazy amount of fun, cheers!

Nice bots. Try PLA with thick shells, but maybe you know that already! I like the blue drum bot the best. Even though it didn't win.

You know what, I have a Taz 5, I have some Alloy 910. I'm going to print myself a 30lb Sportsman bot. And honestly, if you can work with Alloy 910, that's what you should use the next time around. ABS is basically garbage when it comes to durability, you can't even make a quadcopter with it. If you're stuck with either ABS or PLA, though, PLA is the better choice.

Abs might not work... But have you tried Carbon Fiber? It isn't cheap, but it SHOULD certainly fit your needs in something like this.

sokohilton I highly recommend the Ask Aaron Archives for design advice. It's a good place to start. You can also watch videos, find what robots are highly ranked, and see what they did. No design choice is random :) members.toast.net/joerger/AskAaron/weapon.html

Should have a class that is only PLA or something like that. No metal armor or metal weapons. Make it about the design and driving.

+Fancy Raptor Well, the wedge was way heavier than the rest of the robot... without some counter weight at the back it'd tip forward and the one rear wheel that let it turn would lift off of the ground.

altapowderdog Cool I wasn't sure if it was a joke. I'm planning on building a 12 lb battle bot. I have no clue where to fight it near me though but I'll keep an eye out. I go into high school next year and their team has won nationally a few times so they can probably tell me where to look. Your videos have been helpful so thanks

True, the design also wasn't great: the "spokes" were thin in the direction of the impact force. I didn't use spokes for danger zone 2.

I watched and loved BattleBots as a kid, and then last year I just looked online to see if there were any smaller and cheaper competitions in the midwest that I could enter

Not a club, anyone can enter a bot or just show up and watch. "The Builders Database" has an event listings page which is a good place to find competitions and register
