For a while I have wanted an RGB Video Light to use when I am recording videos, or taking some special shots or photos. I wanted to make it using the batteries I already use for lights, so I 3D printed a lamp with a modeled battery attachment.

Hey guys, hope you're doing good! This is one of my more useful projects as of late. I already had a lot of use in this, and hopefully it will last me a good while! The tailored sockets for the battery just shows how useful 3D printing can be. Just all in all a build I am really happy with!

The project was actually pretty nice but what triggers me is that conical tip, if you can use it power to you but conicals disgust me hahaha personal preferance though

Conical tip? Hmm, the ends are flat!

Are they? I gotta look at it again I may just be blind :p but I saw a conical hahaha, I swear that's a conical :o I might be wrong though my internet sucks so yeah can't watch in that good of a resolution :p doomed to 480p ://

Weirdly I'm making my own 12V light but for different purposes. One piece of advice with the boost converter, If you're using multiple power sources add diodes on the boost converter output preventing 12V from trying to pass through the boost converter in reverse. Same with the DC jack unless you want to make more than one and want to daisy-chain them together.

Project Idea: You could build an enclosure or a whole printer cart on wheels for your 3D-Printer to keep heat and fumes in( or blow them out the window)

For the bending at the 3d printer you can use masking tape or ordinary paperglue on the base to make it stick better :)

I think this video is very good for beginners and easy to replicate. Great Job!

there are also rgb led strips that are rated for 5v. For those, you could avoid the mess of having a stepup module and along with that have it usb powered. If you need it on the go, you could plug it into a powerbank. For future reference, looks good overall tho, great work

You should have put the plug input on the input of the boost converter, not the output. That's why it probably fried. its basically like forcing a stream of current upriver when it meant to flow downwards. I hope that helps.

really good idea!!! have you tried dimming the lights using the controller? does not introduce flickering in video? next time you could use a fine aluminum strip to mount the led strips this would certainly help to dissipate the heat, unfortunately I had to rebuild a led panel precisely because the heat of the strips has curved the plastic support on which I had glued the leds directly!

Also wouldn't need the boost converter if you used 18650 batteries. with a nominal voltage of 3.7, it would have easy to get your 12V for the LED's.

I know this video is way old, but is the STL for the lamp casing available for download anywhere? My Fusion 360 skills are unfortunately kinda weak :(

Like with 18650 batteries. Just need a triple battery holder for them. And no boost converter either.
@dcheverie

I would have used 18650 Lithium batteries. Much easier, and MUCH cheaper.
