Amazing work man. Picked up the plans for this after watching Chris Ramsay's video. Started the printing yesterday on my CR6-SE and it is turning out amazingly. Ordered my parts I need today. Can't wait to put this all together. Question when it comes to painting, How well does painting this work? I have found in the past with intricate pieces like these, sometimes painting doesn't work out so well as it affects parts moving etc. Can't wait for the rest of the series!
@CrypticPuzzles
@CrypticPuzzles 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Most of the parts can be painted without too much trouble. The gears on the final door are the only ones that tend to have a problem. The paint can cause the parts to bind if it gets too thick. I usually just sand the areas that are catching until the doors slide smoothly.

amazing work! i bought the .stl files and assembly guide yesterday! but i'm not quite sure which type of magnets you used? are they neodym magnets?
@CrypticPuzzles
@CrypticPuzzles 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The main thing to worry about with the magnets is not exceeding 3mm in height. I used craft/refrigerator magnets like these: www.amazon.com/dp/B07MV2MKD5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_XHv1FbGMPZ5WR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Printing now! On the second wall. This is going to give my printer a workout. I assume that the Chris Ramsey video he skipped a step? He tends to do that. Great work, ill buy the next one to make when it comes out.
@CrypticPuzzles

Great! It takes me around 110 hours to get all of the pieces printed. Chris did manage to skip a step. I will have to make sure he can't find a way around the next one.

@@CrypticPuzzles great! I'm on my 4th wall. Leaving the Pipe wall and maze wall last. Did you print those 2 with supports? I've been printing at .2, 15% no supports. Might go .16 for the pipe wall. Thouhts?
@CrypticPuzzles
@CrypticPuzzles 3 жыл бұрын
@@Densmode3dp You shouldn't need any supports for the wall pieces. Print the pipes wall with the flat side down and the maze wall with the outward facing side down. The details on the maze wall are thin enough that the printer should be able to bridge it with no supports. I have been using .2 for all of the pieces, but I use filler/primer to help with the layer lines. Using .16 will probably work great!

@@CrypticPuzzles if you put one of the key for the gear rack in the other compartment then skiping one of the step is now impossible. you still have the part where he guessed the lock code.
@CrypticPuzzles
@CrypticPuzzles 3 жыл бұрын
@@eddiebarreau8088 Thanks! I appreciate the suggestion. Unfortunately, the key will not fit in that compartment. I have since updated the design to make it less likely the combination will be guessed. I will have to recruit more beta testers for my next design to help catch these things. Lol.

@CrypticPuzzles

Thanks! The largest pieces are 150mm x 150mm x 25mm. I would recommend a build plate of at least 175mm x 175mm.

Great work!! Forgive me, I’m new to 3D printing but what color filament did you use if you painted it?
@CrypticPuzzles
@CrypticPuzzles 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I used black PLA for this design. Any color probably would have worked. All of the pieces were primed and painted. The original PLA color can't really be seen anymore.

do you design it as a whole object first then seperate it for printing parts?
@CrypticPuzzles
@CrypticPuzzles 3 жыл бұрын
I design the parts individually and then assemble them all together. I try to design each part so that it can be easily printed with very few supports. I am still new to CAD, so my workflow may change as I create new designs.

Very nice puzzle. Just ordered it and currently waiting for the delivery to arrive. Wouldn’t it be better if you guys already printed the pieces and then raised the price a bit because not all people could afford a 3d printer? This a thing you should consider and are there any different materials used in the 3d printing process? That’s all I wanted to know. Other than that, worth every penny I spent on the puzzle!
@CrypticPuzzles
@CrypticPuzzles 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have thought about offering just the printed pieces, but I have not had a chance to put that together yet. I print all of the pieces in PLA, no special materials required.

@CrypticPuzzles
@CrypticPuzzles 3 жыл бұрын
@@peters7413 The base colors are metallic spray paint (oil rubbed bronze, silver). Once that has dried, I wash the parts with watered down black acrylic paint. This gives more depth to the details and ages the box. I brighten back up the high points with bright silver acrylic paint.
