I 3D printed a translucent box for displaying aquatic plants and animals. This video represents almost two years of planning, building, and scape tweaks condensed into ten minutes.

Very imaginative! I like that idea of creating the illusion that the supports are sticking through the glass to the outside. I suppose one could do that with driftwood too, just for the whimsy of it.

I actually bought a small Fluval Prism light and installed it inside the box, but I couldn’t decide if I liked the look. It was more of a spotlight than an even glow. Maybe a different light would have done the trick.

@@undr_life Ah that's cool. Could you do one that is slightly more transparent, so the lighting passes through a little bit more effectively? I have been running ideas through my mind on how to set up a hidden sponge filter and your modular hardscape tunnels open doors to new ideas. Do you have an email or way to message you about it?

Cool build! I’m waiting for the Neptune 4 to release so I can pick one up for just this reason. I have 9 tanks and want to 3D print all kinds of decor and structures for them.

Thank you! I used Hatchbox PETG for this build. I haven’t found any clear PLA filaments out there.

Very unique design. The plants probably struggled because of the oxygen in the box reducing the CO2

Thank you! I did find that oxygen would build up beneath the lid, but I didn’t think about it affecting CO2 levels.

Great idea. I think that would really help to create the right effect. I tried an underwater spotlight, but it didn’t create the even glow that was needed.

I love the idea of a more artistic nature that you were going for, unfortunately as we all witnessed, it's not viable to have plants inside to go for the look you were going for I would love to see you take a crack at it again! Because we can't see inside of the box i think it would be the only time to allow the sinful act of adding plastic plants, that way you can have the illusion of plants inside casting shadows, especially if you don't want the glowing green effect That's my idea anyways

Good point - this is probably the only case where plastic plants could be used without it being noticed that they're fake. I hadn't considered that.

Haha, with such a small contact area between the legs and the build plate and no auto-bed leveling on that printer, I just didn’t trust them to hold without some help.
