3D printer maintenance - can you clean and reuse the isopropanol alcohol (IPA) in the cleaning tank?

Күн бұрынIn this video I highlight some of my mistakes when performing maintenance on my Elegoo Mars 3 Pro 3D printer and trying to filter the isopropanol alcohol (IPA) cleaning fluid - trying to clean up the mess before the wife finds out!
There are lots of costs when 3D printing, so is it worth trying to filter and save the IPA instead of just disposing of it?

Thanks to @Habes for the video on cleaning the IPA tank, I wish I watched it before I tried to do it myself! Hopefully this video helps you avoid the pitfalls I faced. Further to that, I look at a couple of other maintenance tasks with 3D printers - checking the calibration with the Cones of Calibration and replacing the filter, which is nice and easy.

I pour them back in IPA bottles then when they're settled after a few days when I do this method because once I get to this settlement at the bottom I stopped pouring and I also use a mesh screen on top of the bottle to catch any big chunks so I don't have to wait as long

Yeah I had recently had a tidy up and thrown out some old IPA bottles 🙄 needless to say I'm saving them now! I reckon if you can save at least some of the IPA with minimal time and fuss then it's got to be q good thing right? Every little helps!

19:10 I hope you know this but theese filters only filter the smell and not the toxicity. Never print indoors where other living human beings are

even if you would have gottem them clean. just thinking this would have worked is very dangerous mindset

Yeah, before I started, my initial notion was that the filters would be perfect and I would get clean IPA out the bottom, which is often used as a cleaner. Obviously I quickly saw that notion was wildly inaccurate! But I didn’t have anything better to use anyway, and I knew I could replace those vessels easily enough if it all went sideways (as it did). So it was all a bit of a learning curve, hence making a video of discovering the mistakes along the way and correcting them.
