Coin sorter machines are fun, and the last one I printed sucked. I found another on Thingiverse thanks to The JAT.MN, and it's Eugene Pentland's model. Let's give it a try on the Prusa i3 mk2 in Rapunzel silver PLA.
Yes, the thumbnail pays tribute to what everyone THOUGHT the other video was about :)

I'm actually considering saving up for a 3d printer but the only one that looks even remotely nice and cost efficient is the prusa m3. but I know next to nothing about the right software and technologies. :/

The software is quite easy to learn no harder than cad you can find all kinds of videos and tutorials online that are easy to learn, I on the other hand am saving up for a milling machine and a bench lathe, decided to get into gunsmithing, so for now 3d printers are on the back burner.

I am soooo glad this video came out. After watching the first video on the makerbot coin sorter, I printed this (I have a very large coin jar at home) and tested it out and realized it doesn't work. At all. Except for quarters. I was going to design my own, but this one is done much better than I could and I am glad you made a follow up about it. Hi Five

FWIW - The first coin sorting video appeared mixed in with the other 3D printing channels I watch, and I clicked it because the model was both a practical idea (well, kinda) to use at home, and a good way to look into a basic mechanism loads of machines use. I'd bet videos showcasing models like that would tend to have wider appeal than videos showing stuff that can be printed just because it's cool. That said, I'm sure there's plenty of us that like both types!

@tristragyopsie5464

I don't think it's the fact that it's a coin sorter, but the fact that it is a practical model. lots of stuff is on how to use or adjust various 3D printers and that is great, but most everything else is novelties and nicknacks. they can do SO MUCH MORE. loke be the base for cold cast parts or positives for molds, but what most people probably want are useful tools and gadgets. things that show this could be an improvement to any home by solving problems. this may sound harsh, but I have a printer myself and I have a lot of nicknacks and stuff I could ((Do)) make but the things that I'm really proud of are the more technically complex things or things that solve a problem or fill a need. they just don't come around all that much.

Nice. I do have a couple of further improvements. The dial should be motorized so that you can feed in the coins while the dial continually sorts them. Another thing is some way to remove a tube without disassembly. The thing is, once the first tube fills. you have to disassemble the unit to empty it. Not saying that's a huge deal or any thing, just saying. A question: are the tubes calibrated to hold the the same number of coins as the relevant paper tube to put them into?

So, I'm into things like this, small things, trinkets, or just cool models 3D Printed. I want to get into it myself, but I don't know what printer to get. I was looking at something like a Monoprice Select Mini, since it get great reviews for the price, but realized that I could quickly outgrow it. What would be a better option, say preassembled and with a larger bed but staying uner the $1000 mark?

If you want to get into it, the Monoprice Mini is a great starter. Yes, you will outgrow it, but, you'll also learn a lot about 3d printing without breaking the bank at first.

I have a coin snorter here. It's rated at 1400 Watts and can snort lots of coins before it gets too full.

+3D Printing Nerd Yeah, my coin snorter really sucks, but it sure does a great job of snorting up the coins, dust, bugs and whatever else can't get out of the way quickly enough ;) . They should market these things, so folks can clean their houses with them. Now, what will these machines be called? ;) .

Now you need to make a Maker-Coin Sorter? XD

Quick and dirty solution is to file down the edges that catch, but really it wouldn't be too hard to fillet those edges since they do not have anything to do with the function of the snorter.

In addition to having no steps, as you mentioned, I think it would stuck less if the wheel had 3 holes.

Hmm, you think so?
@jozafax

Yes: having 4 holes on the wheel and 4 containers, there is stucktivity potential for all 4 coins at once (3 actually as 1 falls). If there were 3 holes on the wheel and 4 containers, the chance of stucking would be reduced to 1 at a time. I might be wrong on the 4 holes, 4 containers part because: the coins have different diameters, i don't know the hole distribution (if uneven, the stuckedness might depend on rotation direction),... Just a thought.

But wouldn't you have to spin it a certain way or the small coins will go inside the larger containers? Or does it have a lock so u can't spin it counter clockwise?

I still haven't got the chance to get me a printer, but trying to learn as much as I can. Looking to get the Prusa i3 mk3, yet I still would like to know more about scanning, splicing, and making my own prints. Everywhere I check on the internet said you have to transport scans through the cloud, is this true ?

I feel like the home 3D printer era is currently at the "dot matrix, or early ink jet printer" stage. What would the equivalent of a laser printer look like, and do you think it will ever be available to the maker community?
