Interesting video I've used scan data for many years (automotive) and just bought a scanner for personal projects. What you've shown is a really good guide I would personally only use the first 2 for quick and dirty projects the third method would always be my first preference. On the software and skills side unfortunately for the hobbyist I one click tool doesn't really exsist and I suspect the more hobby based tools can be hard to work with. If you posted the models I might have a go in Catia or NX if I get the chance.

in my experience, you could have minimized the support material by printing it edge on...

Great video why simply measure it and build it in a 3d modelling software like free CAD , its way quicker no scanner needed just use your phone and place images in the x y z cad software . Love the content and devotion ;-)

Thanks for sharing this video, new to scanning and didn’t really know where to start so it’s really helpful…. What is the white featured outer disc on the turntable ? Just something with unique features to keep good tracking ?

Interesting. Thanks. Would like to have seen the print installed for its intended use. Also, why didn't you print it in black?

A forth step being that you can simply recreate the hinge around the 3d scanned hinge to give you better control over want you want and shouldn't take much time as you do not need to be modifying the original?

I wanted it to match the original, but be straight. The 3rd approach used solid modeling using the scan as a rough template?
@Wm200
@Wm200 2 жыл бұрын
@@SerendipitySue Yes more or less just recreate it around the template scan you did. Should be faster and at the end more professional since it would turn out to be a perfect model? Plus I guess you would at the end have a lot less data since it would be much more clean. (an idea I had when watching your great video.)

Obviously this is not meant to be a tutorial. Someone new to the entire process such as myself cannot follow any of what went into the scanning, editing or printing processes.

Very interesting. Is a 3D print going to be strong enough? Cheers

I plan to try printing one in PETG with 100% infill, but with the full CAD model I could get in machined. I also thought about casting low temp metals. I could use the CAD model to make the molds. I did a similar thing for making a rubber part for my 57' Olds ( www.howmuchsnow.com/olds88/steeringcolumngrommet/ )

Did it work with the shutter? Was the 3D printed part strong enough? Resistant to the weather?
@SerendipitySue

The PETG seems to be holding up. Although I only have one of the 3D printed hinges. The other three are original. I also leave the shutters open all the time.

A much better option would be to make a mold of the original then cast as many new parts from the mold as needed.
@SerendipitySue
@SerendipitySue 2 жыл бұрын
I have tried that too. I wanted to see if I could make a "better" version of it with the Solid Modeling (i.e. get rid of the defects). I plan to print one on my SLA printer (since it will be smoother), and then use that for the mold
