This is another great example of why I love traditional shoots. Lots of friendly banter, a truer test of skill, and just a plain ol' good time! Those people that shoot with training wheels, scopes, and rangefinders are far too serious for me lol. From Alberta, Canada, I bid everyone a great year of shooting!

I don't shoot bow and arrow. Instead, I am into offhand rifle shooting steel silhouette animal targets from 50 yards, out to 200 yards. I shoot a .30-30. I can really appreciate how difficult what you are doing is. And all of you make it look easy. Nice shooting. Just having a handle on what your equipment can do, and then executing the shot, is pretty cool to watch. Knowing wind and weather conditions as well factors in. And, isn't it great to hit exactly where you aimed? And the man in the white t-shirt...no messing around...as soon as he hits the back of his draw...the arrow is gone! Accurately!!

I really appreciate your kind words! Truly I say onto you, give it and try and see how addictive watching the flight of the arrow can be. It is an amazing experience, one that is not easily duplicated. Thanks for your comments and watching the video. Godspeed

What .30-.30 do you shoot? Being from Illinois I never owned rifles as we are a shotgun state but I’ve always liked the idea of the old-school 3030s.

My favorite part of your video is where you have the camera set up by the target and we can hear the swoosh and thud of the arrow finding it's mark. This is really getting me excited and thanks in advance for your reply. Been searching for a new hobby, something where I can temporarily divorce myself from the short-attention-spanned world of technological gadgetry that I've involuntarily become entangled in. I'm looking at my life from the perspective of a 51 year old man who wants to rediscover stillness in himself. It's a thing that I have lost, but that I also sense is lying in wait for me to find and return to it's rightful owner. Call it what you want... mid life crisis - as much as I hate to admit it - probably sums it up. The bad news? It feels like a real crisis. The good news? If I'm graced with enough prosperity and good health, I have half of what's left of my life to solve it. Seeing as how my job requires me to visit customers, and that I have to skip from town to town across vast areas of natural wilderness (eastern WA, North ID, and MT) to do it, the two prospective outdoor pursuits I've landed on are archery & fishing. Both are things I'm at least vaguely familiar with and interested in, and that aside from the initial investment in gear are equally accessible & affordable. What appeals to me about archery specifically, are the opportunities to connect with other like-minded people, whereas fishing seems like a more solitary pursuit - which is all well and good - but also maybe begs for something more. On a side note, last summer I bought a cheap bow and arrow set w/ a target at the sporting goods store for my 11 year old daughter and quite predictably, I became the one doing most of the shooting. She enjoyed it too, but isn't self directed enough to pursue the sport on her own, which leaves me thinking how it could also be a thing for a father and his kid to connect on. Then yesterday, on one of the first decent weather days in months, I happened to run into a guy at the tire shop who is a bow fanatic. He told me about open events / public courses they have in the area and gave me a quick breakdown of what it takes to get started. Recurve bow vs. long bow vs. compound bow inevitably came into the conversation. He told me to not waste my time with anything that can't also effectively be used in hunting, if that was a thing I was also interested in. This brings me to my question. A big part of me wants to start with a traditional archery. Are there any benefits to doing so, other than personal preference? And assuming I get to the point where I also want to hunt (turkey, deer, elk) does it mean that I should buy a compound bow to begin with, or would I simply add one later on, if and when I decide the hunting itch also needs to be scratched?

I'm so glad you are here! I am very excited to hear you are interested in finding some inner peace with the discovery of archery and the outdoors. I say that your approach of looking at KZfaq and researching/questions and taking in knowledge will fast track your learning curve. There is no substitute for shear will and determination to discover. I wish to applaud you, sir! If at all possible , find a local Archery Club near you and make yourself known. The archery clubs are great places to start relationships and build community with like-minded people. If you find a traditional Archery club, you will do one better. I find that our traditional community is something very special. I like the compound guys, but there really is something special about the trad community. As far as what equipment to start with, I would recommend you buy an inexpensive trad bow 35 pound or 40 and learn to shoot it effectively. You will find more joy in watching the arrows flight and occasionally finding your mark. I would say it's spiritual! Godspeed Danny

Great shooting men. I shoot this course every year. Last year was the first time I shot it with a recurve. It’s always a great prep for the start of the season. Better be careful, that grizzly will be really ticked off with those non-lethal hits! That’s a long shot with trad bows. I believe it’s 50 yards if memory serves me right!

@@danielcolon4195 In your vids, am seeing a number of bows made by bowyers I'm not familiar with, being a (formerly) Midwest and (now) Alaska trad guy. It would probably help out your eastern bowyers as you let your viewers from across the country/globe see their bows in action. That 3-piece LB you are shooting has a nice look to it! I was trying to figure out what it was, until I saw your comment about it.
