weird to say, but this is one of my greatest memories from that age. the music is simply awesome, it blew me away back then and it brings a tear to my eye today. it's also great to see that a now standard-setting company like futuremark hasn't forgotten its legacy and keeps this sort of thing around. cheers!

The name "3dfx" in the credits brings tears to my eyes. Best gfx cards ever. A shame that this highly inventive firm went down the drain. Oh, and 3DMark2000 is still my favorite of all 3DMarks. I remember sitting in front of my computer with my jaw dropped, eyes popping out when I first saw it in full glory. Absolutely beautiful and stunning. The music I still carry with me on my mp3-player.

This brings me back. I was 6 years old at the time. One night, my family and I were about to go to a hockey game and I went to see if my dad was ready to go. He was working on his computer in his office (which is now my office), and he asked me "Want to go inside the computer?" I didn't know what he meant, but he ran this demo and I was amazed. I wanted to watch it again and again. This was cutting edge at the time. If I ever have kids, there better be an up to date version of 3DMark so I can take them on this journey.

2001SE works on my Windows 7 64... maybe you need to dig around for an older version? Mine is an original one from the time of release, not the updated one from Futuremark.com.

TheVanillatech I have the original 3DMark 2000 from MadOnions, from a supplement disk that came with a magazine, back in 1999... the installer tells me my OS isn't suited for the program :(
@2KPROD9 жыл бұрын
JimmyRJump You have to install 3DMark 99/2000 in Compatibility Mode. To access Compatibility Mode, right-click the launcher, then click on Properties. Select Compatibility. Select Windows 98/Me. Apply, then launch the program. It will install. After installation, you have to copy ddraw.dll from your system32 folder to the "MadOnion.com" folder. Then, run 3dmark.exe in Compatibility Mode. If this doesn't work, extract the installation file with Universal Extractor. Run the extracted "setup.exe" in Compatibility Mode. Follow the steps mentioned above. If you can't find ddraw.dll, install the DirectX 9 Runtime (available for Windows Vista/7/8.x).
@JimmyRJump9 жыл бұрын
Nope. Tried it before and it doesn't work. 3DMark2000 doesn't want to install and the 2001SE version installs but "was not able to detect 128MB of memory" while I have 16GB... In compatability mode (for XP-SP2) the 2001SE .exe is active (using SysInternal's Proces Explorer to keep an eye on things) but nothing happens. Was just curious how a 7970 Lightning would fare in 3DMark2000... ah-well...

Best demo because it has something the versions since lack, soul. You can tell they really wanted to show us what they could do with a computer, with graphics and sound, just like traditional sceners always had. These days it's just boring tech that nobody cares about.

It would be nice if they could bring all this back but with the RTX tech that the new NVidia Geforce is coming out with. Same music, same everything just far far better graphics. It would make an excellent demo but unfortunately this "voice" won't get heard to people it would matter the most to.

btw.. Was this just a video that ran on the pc or was being rendered. I just wondered because even though it always played fine. I felt like the system was struggling to do it. Maybe in those days trying to play a video in 1024 x 768 was challenging enough.
