Here is my review of the legendary 3F UL Gear LanShan 2 tent. This is the 4 season tent version with double walls. This version of the lanshan tent is perfect for backpacking in the UK. The 3FUL Gear lanshan 2 tent is a trekking pole tent. It's a compact and light backpacking tent perfect for wild camping.
I prefer this lanshan tent over the lanshan pro because of the double wall making it warmer with a small weight penalty. It's still an ultralight tent at 1150 grams. This 2 person tent is big and has a generous height of 125cm.
I prefer this Khaki colour as it blends in wild camping.

The Lanshan 2 tent is unique because it is lightweight. The tent model is affordable and simple to purchase. Lanshan 2 might be the perfect tent for anyone new to the wild outdoors. The model uses a trekking pole setup and is better than the original. Learn all about the Lanshan 2 tent model if possible. The total weight of the tent is around 1140 grams. It utilizes two trekking poles and will be simple to set up on location too.
Differences Between The Lanshan 2 and Lanshan Pro:
The Lanshan 2 is a double layer tent. The inside tent is separated by the rain fly layer. The Lanshan 2 Pro is 1.5 layer tent, inner tent stitched along with the rain fly layer.
Lanshan 2 is 15d single coated silicon fabric.
Lanshan Pro is 20d double coated silicon fabric.
The 15d is a lighter weight tent that appeals to more people in the wild.

I’ve had a lanshan 2 for a couple of years now and I rate it very highly, I did spray mine with Nikwax cause I took it out in virtually horizontal rain, the addition of the nikwax meant I had a perfectly dry night. I also use two pegs on the cord for the door , this allows me to bring the door lower to the ground 👍

do you mean one peg right on the bottom of the zipper and the other one in the original loop that's meant for it? I also like a smaller gap, I've been putting my trekking poles to 110cm, but this could be a good addition.

I've had my Lanshan 2 Plus for a while now and love it. Nothing else out there balances space, weight, and cost as well as this does. The video is a bit confusing when you talk about your four season tent and the three season pro tent so I'd like to clear that up for potential buyers. The Lanshan 2 comes in two versions: There's the standard tent, which was updated to be larger in 2021. Most sites will call this the Plus or XL, or sometimes the 2021 version. If you're buying used and are any reasonable height, even 5'10", make sure you buy the larger 2021/Plus version. Many sellers won't even be aware the tent was updated. So... you have the Lanshan 1 Plus and Lanshan 2 Plus. And the Lanshan 1 Pro and Lanshan 2 Pro. The difference between the Plus and Pro is the Pro is single-skinned and therefore lighter, but more prone to issues with condensation in our climate. All of the Lanshan tents, be they Plus or Pro, are available as "three season" or "four season". As you say, this is not in any way a four season tent, so these terms are misleading. The difference is the four season inner is mostly solid, and the three season inner is mostly mesh. With the Plus tents the inner is detachable so you can buy both and change them whenever you feel like it. With the Pro tents, they are sewn in so can't be changed. The Pro tents need to be fully seam-sealed. The Plus tents only need their guy-out points sealing (3 on the Lanshan 1, and 2 on the Lanshan 2). As for the weight, you said it's 1150g which is about right. It's 1155g but that includes the 142g optional footprint. There's only a 20g weight increase from the three season to four season inner. A Lanshan 2 Plus is less than 300g heavier than a Lanshan 1 Plus. You get so much extra space in the 2 Plus, it's very much worth the small amount of extra weight. I really recommend the footprint as not only does it give extra protection to the relatively thin floor, but also makes pitching a lot easier. There's a Facebook group called "Lanshan Owners UK" which is full of helpful advice.

nice to mention, when it's cold and windy, its nice to set up at 110cm. to have the edges close to the ground. But the bottom of te tent is then a bit flappy, so you can hold that up with a little string or elastics you have from other gear and attach it to your lowest trekking pole clip to hold it up. Aslo, I made my own ground sheet from some polycro, it's a large cheap piece of see through plastic from a home depot kinda store, used to protect the floors when painting. You just cut the right size - same as the surface of the inner - and then cover the corners with some duct tape. After that, you smash in some metal rings in those taped corners, that you also buy at that store. It's very durable and light and cheap. And another thing, I made a little string in the top of the inner, between the two tops of the tent, to hang stuff I want to have close during the night or to dry or air out mildly wet stuff. Like my head lamp, my handkerchief, socks and maybe my pocketknife of kula cloth. Then I don't have to search for that stuff in the morning or in the middle of the night when I need them.

Started wild camping two years ago, using a Lanshan 2 3 season and I love it, just bought a 4 season inner and hoping to be able to extend my camping season. Have 6 delta pegs which make it nice and solid. Only issue I had was one of the plastic Ram's head double hooks for the door on one side broke in a very gusty cliff side coastal camp but I will replace with metal ones, for now using carabiner. I see you have extra lines from the apexes above the vents, I think that's wise and would take pressure off the door guys in wind. Great video, thanks

I too have used the Lanshan 2 for a couple of years. Fantastic tent, loads of space for one, double vestibule, been watertight, very light. Very little condensation. Can’t recommend enough, although always used with an additional ground sheet. And as long as you can cope with the gap all around between the tent and the ground. So although I’ve used it in sub-zero snow, it’s def not a proper 4 season tent

I wonder, what do you think about the placing of the zippers? I just changed my thee season inner for the four season inner. I saw that all sides can open now. But they are one way zippers that close in the center on the bottom. In winter, to prevent condensation in weather below freezing, it's useful to be able to open the doors of the inner partly, for extra ventilation. But if I would do that now, it would be open on the bottom, which would give me a cold butt and it's not where the warm wet air wants to go out. I wish it was possible to open the inner on the tops. How about you? I guess I will find out if it matters this winter.

Thanks for that. I really struggled with the doors on mine - the tent came with cords that I've just realised have to be connected to the doors, but I'm not sure I've done it properly. As well as that, the straps for adjusting the tension on the corners occasionally become detached. Any tips welcome.
@realfingertrouble
@realfingertrouble 10 ай бұрын
It's the same as the 1 - it is rather confusing, you peg out the middle of the guy - you'll see a loop halfway along, that's where you put your peg, then the rest of the guy goes back to the stretchy loops on the bottom of the door flaps. So it tensions them out.

Hey Andy, I was wondering if you can recommend me a starter backpacking tent, I'm 6ft, and want to spend no more than £150. Thanks.

Both naturhike cloud up 2 and cloud peak 2 tents are in your budget and are great little starters

Not Andy, but I thought I’d put in my opinion! If your looking for a tent, Andy is right, 10 out of 10. Some times you got to spend a bit of cash, saves money in the long run, but..this tent is cheap in tent terms. My advice, don’t buy a cheap tent from mountain warehouse or decathlon. You will end up buying another sooner rather than later. You will struggle to get anything decent under 150 quid, unless you go down the tarp and bivvy route (I have one, it’s not a bad idea) I would seriously recommend the langshan in the video. I have had one for 2 years now. A starter tent that will last you many years. You say you want cheap. This is pretty cheap. But I would still buy, it if it cost a bit more. 300-400 quid there are better tents, but not for 150 Obviously, it depends on what you are going to be doing, as Andy says, it’s fine for most of the U.K. But, everything is a compromise. If I was in the lakes or cairngorms in the middle of winter, I would think twice about it. I would take a heavier, more stable tent. But be honest, are you going to be doing that? It would be ok when it was high winds and lashing it down, most of the year - if you take longer pegs. But this is falls into insignificance when you take into account the weight. the weight saving is brilliant. If you were doing a distance walk or walks in the peaks, dales or lakes, it would be fine for your needs. A heavier tent, say, 3kg added to gear plus food, water etc make things a real slog. Save that for when you need it, in the winter I am 6’1” and have no real problems with the langshan You do need trekking poles (recommended anyway when walking with a pack, so much easier) and you will need to waterproof the seams (very easy to do). It’s very light and it works. Light means everything. You could do worse.

@@richardb7726 hey thanks for the suggestion, after looking around at other reviews and videos I have decided to go with the lashan 2 4 season. I only said 150 as this would be my first time backpacking and don’t fancy spending lots of money on something I might not enjoy. So 150 on this tent will be suitable for starting out and then if I do like wild camping then I’d upgrade, but thanks for the detailed response, really do appreciate it.

@@gassyinc6406 no worries, I was the same. But, if you’re going out on your own, don’t want to spend too much and don’t mind roughing it, consider a Bivvy combined with a tarp Check out the book, The book of the Bivvy by Ronald Turnbull. A good read in its own right

It's not a four season tent, the fly sheet doesn't fit, the pegs are crap, you need walking poles to put it up, and it's no good in the wind. This tent is 10 /10, what does he consider rubbish?
