A few things I would do differently. First, I would brush all that dirt on top of the fuel pump out of the way so it doesn't get inside your fuel tank. Second, I lay down some type of towel to catch the spray from the fuel line as you disconnect it. Third, I would use a cheap oil pan from the dollar store to put the fuel pump in so it doesn't drip all over. And you could have just lifted the assembly and let it drain a little more before you took it out. And fourth, I would have used a LIGHT coat of motor oil for the rubber gasket, so if any of it ever gets into the fuel it won't be a potential problem for the fuel injectors. But yeah, without the lubrication that f***ing rubber seal will fold over into the threads and you'll never be able to screw the ring back on (took a while to figure that out ). I was thinking the same thing with the towels , and cheap oil pan or even cutting out a plastic water jug. But the coating the rubber seal with oil is smart !

My car was down for a month cause I thought it was a clogged cat until I saw this video an based on my crank an no run I finally thought it had to be a fuel sending problem. Thanks so much on the how to video. Now I know for sure my car will be running tomorrow. Thanks

Thanks for the excellent video. It blew my mind to know how accessible the pump is. One job that wont go to the dealer! Was there any pump pressure that had to be relieved?

Should the gas cap where gas goes in be undone done a bit during all this, kind of how during oil changed it makes it a little easier if you undone the engine bay’s oil cap so when you undone the bottom part it helps some sort of way (I’m new with this and that’s what someone told me when I learned how to change my oil so correct me if I’m wrong)

I pull the gasket over the top of the pump, not the bottom. I’ve seen a few guys do that. There’s no reason to risk damaging the fuel level arm. If you do it from the top it’s more safe and faster. This may help someone. But I do see other guys do it from the bottom. To be fair.

Have you ever replaced the fuel filter in one of these fuel pump modules? I'd rather spend $70 on the filter than $350 on the whole unit. I just don't want to damage the module in the process.

It's almost impossible. It's part of the fuel pump assembly. And if you get it wrong either the pump won't work or it will give you the wrong reading on the gauge cause the sensor gets messed up. I wish Honda would go back to putting external fuel filters on the firewalls again...

@@bundysgarage That's a bummer. Do the cheaper aftermarket fuel pumps work good or should I stick with OEM? And absolutely, the engineers who decided to put the filter in the fuel pump module will pay for it in the afterlife 😂

Hey my 07 Acura having starting trouble check the battery is God’s getting all voltage and amp,so as for starter , no crank or click no dash light nada zitch,but car alarm works so as for interior lights I am so confused even my mechanic could not dig nosed the issue cuz car won’t read ob2 plz help if kno about this issue

Quick question 06 acura mdx just did the valves because of cold start.Still having a issue with the cold start.After sitting all night it take at least 6 to 8 turn overs to start.Any ideas maybe a fuel pressure regulator?

Either a bad fuel pressure regulator or the check valve located in the exit port of the fuel pump. Replacing the entire unit remedies that problem.

Hey great video! Question....you said the customer was experiencing hesitation during acceleration. I’m experiencing the same thing mainly at lower RPMs (I have a 6mt type-s with full bolt-ons and tuned). I’m currently getting misfire codes after driving the car for several days. Was this customer experiencing that also? My mechanic said he had a customer who kept getting all the misfire codes and turned out his fuel pump was no good. Just want to confirm your customer had a similar issue before I make the purchase Thanks!

Did you ever figure out your problem? My TL Type S is doing the same at lower RPM. Pulled the plugs and they all look lean.

Check your fuel pressure regulator. My Dad's Buick had a similar issue. One of the easiest fuel pressure regulator's I've ever changed. On the '04- '08 TL's the pressure regulator is mounted to the fuel pump. For all the work involved I'd replace the whole unit. Just make sure the new fuel pump assembly comes with a fuel pressure regulator.

It should be very similar, I don't know about exactly the same but Honda has kept it's fuel pump removal almost the same for over 20 years.

Had to do this to my 08 Odyssey almost a year ago, pulling up the carpet was kind of a pain, getting all those latches and screws out of the floor for the second row seats .

True that, but Honda makes it easier than most manufacturers. Most of the time you have to drop the fuel tank to gain access to the fuel pump. At least Honda/Acura gives us an access port.

Yea, you're right. Had to replace the fuel pump in my Focus a few years back, aside from having to remove the tank, they made the lines going to the Evap and filler neck SHORT. So short in fact, you couldn't even begin to get the hoses slipped back over the knurled part of the gas tank side of the connection untill it (the gas tank) was full installed in place

hey man i have a question. i have the same car and it has a sputtering problem which then causes the car's engine light to flicker(which usually says that there's a misfire.) so the first thing i replaced were the spark plugs(even though when i scanned the obd2, it gave me a misfire for cylinder 6.) then sputter continues so i replaced the coil for cylinder 6, still no luck. then i tested all the fuel injectors and the fuel injectors are working fine. i tried fuel injector cleaners and gas tank cleaner and still sputtering. i have hit 200k on the car and my next guess could be the fuel pump. do you think that could be the case?

also, when i don't drive the car for awhile, like a weekend or so, the car won't start up unless i jump start it. i read forums and it says the issue could also be the fuel pump. i've replaced the battery already and tested the alternator and the alternator is in good shape.

I’m having this same issue rn I just hit 172k in my 05 I hope you got the issue solved , I’m guessing it’s the fuel pump to with all the research I have done and it does the same thing expect it does flutters or stuffers idling to and I guess I’ll be buying an aftermarket pump today , how much was labor ? Or did you do it yourself (installation that is )

@@SuperiorDRIPP27 i didnt get to change the fuel pump. also an update, I replaced the battery again and it was going fine for almost a month. then left the car for about 2-3 days again and it wouldnt start. so this time, i'm assuming it has to be the alternator. if not, the fuel pump might be the issue.

@@iannesopanget you went back to the battery and alternator to try fix? the battery is getting drained probably from common Bluetooth issue, and the misfire and powerloss is fuel pump related, since you check everything else.

Acura and Honda got stupid with the fuel filter, my mid 90s late 90s Hondas and Acuras had a separate fuel filter in the engine bay easy as hell to replace .

I wonder how long the old pump relay is going to handle the pump building line pressure against the new 50PSI regulator ? I'd replace that relay at the same time for good mesure. (Most drive cycle require two relay cycles: Prime/Stop/Start) 🙂

@@carlosesparzavazquez4753 It's a waste of money to replace a relay that's working fine. Most relays are in a fuse box, and easier to change than a household lightbulb.

The fuel filter on this is more like a sock or strainer that sits at the bottom on the inside of the fuel pump assembly. The fuel pressure regulator is also down there.

@@princezay3608 You can change the individual fuel pressure regulator. If I recall correctly they're expensive little things for what they are, like $80. Kind of a PITA to change since you've got to get the whole assembly out. I changed mine, but that wasn't the problem, I finally had it towed to a shop. They told me a huge clot of bad gas/oil was gumming up the fuel rail to the injectors.
