I was a Secret Circus field agent in a past life. I am so glad I left that agency and mission. I can't believe how naive I was willing to take a bomb or bullet for one of these clowns. You are right, they are just parrots repeating what they've been trained to say.

As a young man growing up I remember my dad saying to me "when you shake a man's hand shake in such a manner that he knows someone is on the other end! He served in WWII and was at Omaha Beach 2nd wave as well as the Battle of the Bulge. His division the 62nd Field Artillery was part of Patton's "shock troops". He was always a real hero to my brother and me and was also one of the the finest Christians I have ever know. He was a true warrior that survived 3 years fighting over seas and saw the worst of mankind, but he was always friendly to everyone he came in contact with. He lived to be a 100 yrs. and 4 months.

His "weak & soft hands" says everything!! ANY man that has a weak handshake should put you on guard, as my dad told us. Which is why I made sure to teach my 3 sons to firmly shake another man's hands, it a signal of strength & trust!! As my dad said "your handshake is your bond, your word & it should be as good as a contract". Thank you for pointing that out, it's those little things that aren't being taught across the board anymore & they're so important!

I was a Federal Agent for 30 years. Not Secret Service but I always said the Secret Service would be the most stressful Law Enforcement job to do. The President is always late on purpose, this is part of the security plan, it allows agents to scan crowds for really anxious, nervous people and it makes the President less predictable.

I got to mingle with SEALS at the Navy Postgrad School. You guys all move like big cats. I'm assuming that's the training. I've often wondered if I could have made it through that training and the answer I always get from my brain is NO. lol That's ok. Being a Navy pilot was cool too and I got a retirement out of it so I got no complaints. You guys always had the best stories though. 🙂

This guy is absolutely right. Protective details are boring as hell after I retired from law enforcement I did that work for about 9 months and the money was good the travel was kind of fun, but it was completely soul-sucking. Especially if you had a difficult client.

Met a dude turned that job down. He ended the in the worst places in the middle east after that. He made it through though.

Great story. I had the chance to augment security for Mrs. Bush Sr. when she was on a Gulf War I base tour and rally. As a Marine, we ran the outer security ring and plugged the avenues of approach for vehicles. Secret Service dudes back then were razor sharp guys. They looked every bit the part.

I shook his hand once too. It was on campus at Texas A&M in 2010. Definitely noticed how soft his hands were. His motorcade and air operations were very impressive. He pulled up in a monster looking Caddillac Escalade.

I was a Aircrewman for Hc4 back in bush days and we flew Chaney all over the east side of Italy took two 53’s to move the VP and the whole crew was for a week long thing from base to base along the coast and his wife was with us also she actually slapped me on my ass in the last day helping her get up our ramp definitely kool we only did VIP twice

I remember old man Bush came on my boat when I was in the navy. I saw him but didn't get to say hi but I remember how deadly serious the secret service guys looked walking him around. Even on a navy ship they looked ready to rock n roll at the drop of a hat.

I was on the detail for that trip in both Senegal and Tanzania and also saw the same signs haha, we probably ran into each other and didn't even know it, good working with you and we always appreciated having you guys around.

I had a brief encounter with a secret service agent long ago. Papa Bush was flying into town, and some of the secret service came in early on our airline. Pretty much the whole forward bin of the plane was gun cases. I was off loading under a watchful eye, and let out a holy sh** , as they just kept coming. The agent standing next to me laughs and says , oh this is just a first load more come in with the president. The guy I met was pretty funny while at the same time keeping an eye on everything going on.

The look on your face in that photo with the president is very dynamic. Your facial expression said a professional, focused, serious and “I am a hard target”. Very neat detail.

Good talk, new subscriber. I'm retired EOD and augmented USSS for 20+ years with George Bush, Clinton, George W..and Obama. As well as 100's of other VIPs, all over the world. I agree, most of the time it was a $hitty job and a huge waste of tax $$. I remember one assignment in Uzbekistan protecting Madeleine Albright. I remember seeing a huge amount of furniture, rugs, artwork, etc being loaded into a C17, being curious I asked the SA in charge and he said Madeline had been on a shopping spree.

I work closely with the Secret Service at my job. Insane how much planning goes into a few hour stop for the president or VP.

A weak handshake from a man instantly signals their desire for power and control over you. Yes, it stems from weakness but means the opposite of what most people think. Be careful around these people. They own real estate in your head the moment they shake your hand like that. Nobody forgets that kind of handshake, especially from powerful and important people.

I'm fascinated by the fact that we read as much as we do in to someone's hand shake. I find myself as well distinctly remembering anyone I've met that has given a weak handshake. It's interesting to hear you mention that as well.

I’m just shocked at the discipline and professionalism of the men and women in uniform. I’m sorry if I was protecting Obama or Clinton or someone I am not sure I would do it. The guy and all his corrupt buddies deserve some serious accountability for crimes against humanity and treason.

While I’m glad there are those such as yourself that choose to defend, I’m also saddened by this. My point being, no elected official is supposed to be above (in any capacity) the citizens he or she is elected to serve. Glad I subscribe.

I went on several VIPPSA missions as an EOD tech supporting USSS. One of those support missions was in Thailand when Obama did his SE Asia tour, and you're right about how much it takes being staggering. Just the fact they airlifted the sane motorcade I always saw in CONUS VIPPSA support missions (the mess of Black subirbans with Maryland plates) kinda blew me away, and that was the tip of the iceberg.

We ran a couple of QRF missions when Obama and other politicians came to our area. The SS guys were cool, but as you said the entourage and the sheer number of assets in place was a circus. Our entire team sat in a van for 10 hrs, the highlight was making fun of the SS guy polishing/detailing the presidential limo. He was a good sport about it. But yeah not glamorous at all.
