3rd Gen LEXUS GS headlight, fog light, turn signal, side marker, & parking/city light bulb changes.

This video documents how to change various light bulbs in the front of the car: High/Low beam headlight, fog light, turn signal light, parking/city light, and side marker light bulbs.
I recorded this video with the front bumper removed to provide the best close up video shots.

Similar instruction should apply to all 3rd generation Lexus GS300, which includes GS300, GS350, GS430, GS450H, and GS460.

Appreciate the effort putting this together I've decided to switch my turning signals to LED, so last week I bought 2 sets. The rear ones were sort of easy but the front ones were an absolute agony, I couldn't turn the driver's side bulb even a bit so I gave up ... will go again.

Probably combination is moisture and dust got wedged and kind of acting as glue. You can try to spray very slight WD40 and also try using a plier ever so gently just to get it to turn. And make sure you are turning the correct way which I think is the counterclockwise direction. Also, consider the possibility that last time someone replaced it, they didn’t rotate it clockwise to lock it in place, meaning it could already be unlocked, in which case just try to pull it out also. Let me know how you get it solved.

@@DIYLifeSkills thanks for the extra tips. it was stuck, clearly it's the first time; probably the heat and humidity got me frustrated and couldn't concentrate. However, it's done without the use if WD-40 or pliers; just needed to put my hands in more comfortable position to turn and pull the bulb out. Strangely enough, they work properly in the emergency mode but hyper-flash when switching the signal right or left despite witching the poles! Any idea about this issue?

Brown haze on the high beam bulb could be from someone handling the glass part of the bulb - oils from your hand will burn onto the glass when it gets hot - that's why they always say on the packaging not to touch the bulb area.

Rear turn signal and front turn signal bulbs look VERY similar... Are they interchangeable? I haven't gotten around to changing my front signal bulbs yet, so would definitely appreciate an answer, as I'm starting to see discoloration on one of the bulbs which seems to be very common with Toyota/Lexus.

That was awesome, thanks for sharing those details!!! FWIW- although I haven't tried it yet on this car but that V shaped wire that hold in the Xenon bulb...if it's anything like what I've seen on motorcycle lamps I've experienced, it SHOULD swing out of the way once you release both wires....making it a lil easier to et bulb in/out. On a side note, once of my headlamp assemblies has condensation in it, any suggestions to fix that?!?!? I'm thinking about drilling a hole at the lowest point of the assembly to allow it to drain.

These headlights are very expensive because it has so many features built in like washer, auto and directional leveler, HID, etc. it’s bit of work, but you’ll have to remove the outer lense using a heat gun and then reseal it with headlight sealer that looks like thick tape.

@@guillermoverde81 You can remove the bulb and use a hair dryer to blow air into it to speed the drying. Doesn’t have to be hot air as it’ll melt glue. Just use cold air to circulate inside. Afterwards, you need to find the source of leak and seal it. Unless there is a visible crack, likely it’s the seems between two outside covers that’s leaking. They do sell sticky tape like material for this. Search for headlight leak sealer.

Very nice video and all, but how do you remove the turn signal bulb from that grey piece? There is 2 clips that is holding the bulb on the inside and those are impossible to reach

Do you know LED model for high beam and low beam? Are they the same bulbs?

For high beam bulb, it is Sylvania 9005. They have it in halogen or LED. LED is almost twice the cost but since it’s supposed to last longer, if you keep the car for a long time, it might pay off. For the low beam bulb, this is HID light, which means HID ballast is needed to power it. There are HID to LED conversion kits if you goggle but you have to deal with Converting HID wiring to LED adapter.

@@DIYLifeSkillsI have the 2008 GS350 and I really really appreciate your videos because it have helped me tremendously understand how to change the parts properly. My car was in an accident and I just recently swap the door. I wish I can send you the images, please let me know. So for the lights, it’s not a plug and play with LED? My left low beam was bad and I have purchased Auxito 9005 HB3 and I think it might just for high beam or it can be used for both low and high? **I think the main question is that for the low beams lights, HID options would be the best to go since it doesn’t require conversion box right?

@@NimbleLiving You might find some folks that actually did the conversion to the LED bulbs on ClubLexus forum. I know this subject is talked about often there. All I know is it’s not just replacing with LED bulbs. You have to remove the front bumper first. It’s not very hard but it’ll take couple of hours to remove the bumper and headlight. I have videos in all those.

Yeah, you have to watch the video very closely at the angle and position and try to mimic it with fingers. Horrible design for such a simple bulb change.

@@DIYLifeSkills I have a 2006 Lexus GS 300. Whenever had the car prior cut the light wire, & put a kit on it. The hid kit flickers out, & I don’t know the harness I need! They cut the light wire. 😕

@@baddestebony3504 This car came with HID light, but are you saying previous owner cut the wires to installed a different light? Some people were swapping HID to LED lights. BTW, when HID bulb is going out, it starts to flicker or turns off after few minutes. HID bulb usually doesn’t go out completely suddenly. It can take many many months if flickering before it finally goes out.

@@baddestebony3504 Another possibility is HID ballast, which provide high power to the HID bulb, can go out, but this is rare. It’s usually the HID bulb that goes out. There are cheap HID bulbs but they tend to last less than a year. Get the one I show in the video, and it’ll last over 5 years easily. But it’s around $50-60 per bulb.

@@DIYLifeSkills it’s complicated, but I do know I did buy the hid bulbs I wasn’t to able to use them since the harness was missing. I then was told to try ordering a kit like they did, but since I’ve been experiencing the issue. Would you happen to have a email I can send you photos?
