Hello friends! My daughter will be going into 3rd grade for the 2022-2023 school year and we just got all of her curriculum in the mail! I'm so pumped to share it with you! I like to mix and match different curriculums together, so I'll be sharing several different programs with you! Please let me know in the comments below if you have any experience with any of these curriculums!

I was closed to giving up and choosing distance learning options, but the cost was too high, and we cannot screen the curriculum the way that we prefer our family to learn. Thanks for the encouragement! I am also thrilled with the Science Shepherd, thanks for the suggestion!

Thank you for sharing! This is our 4th year homeschooling. I’ve been looking for a new science for my daughter. She’ll be going to 3rd grade. 😊 We love TGTB and currently use that for Math and LA.

We love TGTB language arts and are excited for the new stuff especially as we are close to having a kindergartener who is adopted, I’m excited to teach her when she starts homeschooling!!! We love the daily lessons!!! We love the geography that they cover!!! We haven’t decided if we will use math u see with our youngest yet!!! We had to swap it out for our biological kids yet me and my husband used math u see but we had 2 curriculums together!!! My oldest daughter loves science and we do one to one study sessions together!!! I only need my kids to be able to write so my youngest is doing pre writing and my older kids don’t do handwriting as it’s optional for them as they can write and I feel the same way for our youngest daughter as I just want her to write, then it’s up to her if she needs it to be pretty or functional!!! Gather round helps us with bible memory work!!!

@@TheJohnsonCrew so yes this is our 3rd year using the good and the beautiful... so I haven't tried the new revised version coming out right now for levels k to level 2. But it looks interesting... I have used the new preschool revised version this year and really like it. I have the new prek and haven't started yet with my son. I am thinking this level 3 is the newest version 🤔 for level 3. Are you using any other levels?

Great choices. We used Abeka video for Language Arts and it's laid out the same way. Spelling, Phonics, Writing and Reading are 4 different videos and then they have seatwork after. I really love the program but I get the fact that it can be a bit much at times.

I've not looked into abeka videos! Cool! Shew - 4 is a lot! Lol! I'm curious if they combine any of those in the older grades. Thanks for sharing!

Love Good and Beautiful. We have been using it for the last 3 years, I am interested in maybe transitioning to MATH-U-SEE this upcoming year for my 4th grader. I heard it was better for visual learners maybe? Also going to check out your science, love the idea of the videos!

That's awesome! Are you using TGTB math? I've not looked into theirs so I don't know the differences, but you can order the math blocks they sell (or get similar cheaper ones) and that gives you hands on practice (they show how to use them in the videos)

I am intrigued with your science and history selection. I will look into them more. Does the science offer experiments or projects? My kids like the hands on stuff.

The astronomy had a few activities, and I'm actually not sure if the physical science has experiments! That's a good question - I'll have to look!

Did you know that the History and Science Video course for 3rd grade BJU Press can be bought as a combo course for the same price as one of them? I actually hadn't planned on using their history back when my son was in third grade but since it was the same price as just the science I decided to do both. Just thought I would let you know in case you didn't! Love your eclectic choices!

This will be our first year homeschooling. I have two boys, 3rd and 4th grade. Do you know of any history or science that could be combined? That way I'm not teaching two separate one's?

That's awesome! Since they're only 1 year apart, I think you could combine them for history and science using any curriculum! The elementary topics get repeated in the middle/high school years (in more depth of course), so they will eventually cover it all anyways! Since you're starting them off doing this in 3rd/4th, I think it will be just fine!

A lot of homeschool families I know, teach their whole family the same history lesson, but then they have grade appropriate worksheets and assignments they give to each of them (the younger ones are just listening).

Just curious how you are going to have your daughter do science 2 days per week. Do you have her do multiples lessons per day? I am looking at Science Shepherd for my soon to be 3rd grader as well!

Great question! My son did their Astronomy course and it was set up with 2 lessons per week, but I hadn't noticed that the Introductory Science course was set up differently. I just dug deeper into her workbook and noticed that it's set up with 5 lessons per week, but the videos are like a minute a piece and the worksheets are about 4-8 questions each, so I don't think it would be overload for her to do more than 1 a day. We'll play it by ear as we get into it - I'll have to do an update video in the late fall!

Great picks! We tried the Good and the Beautiful level 1 for language arts this year for the youngest and really enjoyed it! I was hesitant because I had read reviews about the author’s religious affiliation coming through, but I really haven’t noticed that. Have you, in the course you tried before? We’ve already bought level 2 and their handwriting book for next year!

We’re finishing our third year homeschooling. Heading in to 3rd grade this next year along with a one year old. 🫣 We use BJU Bible, English and Science, but all parent led. Sometimes I wish we had the video led, but it’s so expensive. 😱 But I do love Math U See, so that’s one subject I teach very little of. Phew! 🥰

👏🏼👏🏼that's fantastic! Those toddler years are quite tricky 😅😅 they are expensive, but when you compare it to private school... 😉 (helped me to reason it out)! It's been a huge relief in juggling 4 kids! Math-u-see is such a good deal and great set up! Good luck to y'all next year!!

@@TheJohnsonCrew Yes, true! When we get ready to order every Spring and my husband has a bit of sticker shock…I remind him how much the private school near us charges. It’s basically a little over one months tuition! 😱🤯
