I think it's actually a trend in the MHA universe. The random print tee. A character (Todoroki's brother) even wore a shirt that says "Front" in the front and "Back" in the back. Like if you get confused on the sides of that shirt, you're dumb.

To be fair to Uraraka's simple outfit, she grew up in relative poverty compared to quite a few of her classmates, to the point where she's in it for the money because she wants to support her family.

Honestly, early civilian outfits by Horikoshi were even more boring and plain than I remembered. He improved as he went on, but the side effect is, 1A has terrible civilian drip compared 1B and pro heroes, since unlike with the hero customs (like the evolution of Midoriy's hero outfit), there was never a opportunity to revamp their civilian outfits.

this same thought JUST popped in to my head the other day But I get how it was always a 4th wall breaking gag, and isn’t indicative of deku as a person, but I always found it so funny Like the image of an otherwise plain, boring kid like deku who doesn’t know the first thing about fashion or styling up his wardrobe; just goin’ to the mall with his mom and exclusively pickin’ them shirts out consistently out of everything else because he thinks it the funniest shit in the world Like so confident in it, that he regularly wears it around his friends and even his damn crush Like BRO The ‘Shirt-Shirt’ is the thing he’d be busting out on dates and I think that’s the wildest thing about it 💀
