The Batman that arrived in theaters a couple weeks back was co-written and directed by Matt Reeves, but originally the final was going to be written and directed by Oscar winning storyteller Ben Affleck.
But this wasn’t the first time a Batman film almost happened and then fell apart. This has been happening for over 50 years. So in this 3 part series we’ll be looking at each of the cancelled Batman movies. What was the movie going to be about, who was cast, and why did it fall apart?

Outta all of these, Batman vs Godzilla is a movie that I would’ve liked to have seen been made since I’m a huge Godzilla fan, regardless if it turned out good or bad. Wolf man vs Godzilla is another crossover film that almost happened.

Something I recommend in addition to those books you mention, I also recommend the batman project that was at one point canceled but found new life which is the Batman 89 comic. The reason I'm recommending that is because before Schumacher replaced Burton as the director for Batman Forever, there were ideas for Burton's potential third film. Two of which were Billy Dee Williams as two-face and Marlon Wayans as Robin. The comic provides a bit of glimpse of what Burton's third film could've been. It's a very interesting read.

Yeah. Read Batman Forever book by Peter David. It’s much darker than the theatrical cut and what Joel always wanted for his Batman movies before WB interfered with both his movies

Just as a suggestion, could you rank all the Godzilla films? I know it's a tall order, but your kids would love some of the ones made from the late 1960s to 1973. Just be careful with some of them, like Godzilla vs. Gigan, since there was a lot of blood in it.

Actually Sean, Scarecrow in Batman Unchained was going to be played by Coolio who was credited in Batman & Robin as Jonathan Crane. Any of the other actors you suggested would have been a much better choice than freaking Coolio.

We don’t know that. Why Joel’s Batman movies turned out the way they did was because of WB interfering in it. Check out the Batman Forever book by Peter David and you will see Joel’s original vision for it and how different it is from the theatrical cut

I would love to see the Tom Mankiewicz's script. David Bowie was heavily considered for the Joker, Michael J. Fox as Robin, and David Niven as Alfred. I would have loved Pierce Brosnan (at that time, he was known for Remington Steele) as the Caped Crusader.

Didn't know about batman v Godzilla but did know about batman unchained I think it would have really good. It would allow dick to finally become Nightwing it could have given gorge Clooney a chance to show he could be a good batman and would have put a nice bow on the original series of movies. Also with the new concept art from the batflack the batman really made me wish that movie existed even more

Thank God you didn't include Tim Burton's Batman 3. Because Batman Forever didn't start out as a Tim Burton project. It was always Joel Schumacher's baby. Tim's only involvement with Batman Forever is to hire his friend Joel to direct, and he help out hiring Lee and Janet Scott Batchler to write the screenplay.

Batman vs Godzilla sounds pretty dumb, but very fun. The Mankiewicz script sounds okay, but apparently too much like Superman: The Movie. The Catwoman spinoff sounds alright. Batman: Unchained sounds like a movie that I would very much like to see, especially with Nicholas Cage as Scarecrow.

I have read the script to Batman Triumphant (Unchained was a potential Batman movie that also included Man Bat) many years ago, and I thought it was quite good. Pretty dark, yet had light moments. Think of a fusion of the first two Batman movies and that's how this one was.

I have no idea what to think about Batman vs Godzilla, part of me thinks it would be the Godzilla vs Kong in the 60s, and another is telling me that this movie would have made absolutely no one take Batman serious anymore, Tom Makiewicxz’s sounded ok but it would have been just Superman if he was a bat, Tim Burton’s Catwoman sounded like the best of these four, but it wouldn’t be one I’d watch all that often, and the 5th Batman from the Tim Burton / Joel Schumacher franchise sounded ok I guess, I would have definitely been interested in seeing Harley Quinn in a different way, and Scarecrow sounded pretty awesome minus the Jeff Goldblum version, nothing against the actor, he just seems like an odd pick for a menacing brain-tricking antagonist, also the fact of all of Batman’s dead villains returning sounded interesting

I hope Justice League: Mortal is mentioned in this series. I’ve read the script and while it’s heart is a Flash story, Batman is an important character who has a powerful role.
