Seems like his ending statement is a bit of a misnomer; the first planer (green one) would not keep your shop free of wood chips or dust.

Are those left handed screws removed at 1:30 on the traditional straight blade?

I agree with Kevin down below about the spiral heads. I replaced the blades on my DeWalt 735 two years ago and have yet to have a single board come out looking even close to the walnut in the video. Did you, perhaps, use some chalk to accentuate the "valleys?"

Excellent comparison. Is there a jointer that uses disposable indexed blades as the Dewalt thickness planer does?

My planer does not have a dust collection port and I rather like it. The planer develops a tremendous amount of chips. It'll fill up your dust collector really fast. I set my planer at the end of a 6' table and I put my wheelbarrow at the other end. It fills the wheelbarrow and I just go to the place in my yard where I need some wood chips (no pine). It's a very simple system, but works very well. It also gives me a break to take my mickey mouse ears off for a few minutes.

Do you do that with pressure treated wood too?

With some machines, chips can feed back into the machine and get pressed into the planed surface by the feed rollers. That can leave small divots in your workpiece.

@@Wood I see your point. But, until I can afford a new planer with dust collection, I do the best I can with what I have. 😊

I have a Hitachi F-1000A combination jointer/planer, whose planer is like the first one Bob Hunter tested in that it has two long knives. I like it, but the planer lacks sufficient power. I don't know why, but I can take off only about 10-mil of wood at a time, even on narrow boards, say

10 mil? As in 10 millimeters? That is a bunch to take off with a planer in one pass no matter how narrow of a board
