4 Best Hikes in the Pyrenees 🇫🇷 🇪🇸 France & Spain Road Trip

Hiking in the Pyrenees mountains. We spent 4 days in a road trip traveling and hiking in the High Pyrenees (Hautes-Pyrenees or Altos Pirineos) of France and Spain-in rough November weather. As it was our first time visit there, we wanted to get a diverse list of trails, so this video features our final selection of the 4 best day hikes. Two of them are on the French side, the other two-on the Spanish side. These hiking trails best showcase the wild and naked nature of the Pyrenees.
The first one lies in France, and it's a hike to the "lake of lakes" in the Pyrenees-Lac de Gaube (8 km loop with 400m elevation gain). Then, a visit to the majestic waterfall at Cirque de Gavarnie (11 km loop with almost 800m of elevation gain), which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Pyrenees Mont Perdu. On the Spanish side, Aragon, we explore a true hidden gem-the 15 km loop (almost 1000m of elevation gain) to the valley of Aguas Tuertas, the Secus mountain, and the grandiose Castillo de Acher. Last but not least, the Ordesa Valley and a hike to Faja Racon with a dizzling detour to the Tozal del Mallo (15 km with 1400m elevation gain). This video includes also some travel tips and where to park your car at the trailheads.

Just remember that it is prohibited to fly drones within the Ordesa National Park.

It has been pointed out to me once before, but we did not see any signposts there and the map did not mark it as a No Fly zone. We try to respect drone laws.

Seems pretty petty to criticise them when walking in November. Sure when there’s crowds it might briefly spoil someone’s peace, but not on the day they did it.

I was born and raised in the Pyrénées. It’s kinda cool to see people showing some love for our mountains. The Cirque de Gavarnie is a nice place but I would recommand the Cirque de Troumouse too. It’s, imo, more beautiful and less frequented thant Gavarnie.

The Ordesa national park is the most incredible place in the pirineos together with Gavarnie, and it's a canyon in itself, but I would recommed (with better weather) the Faja de las flores - Cotatuero option, just bordering the whole canyon. Ordesa is worth several hikes, probably the Añisclo canyon, going up to Pineta is a must as well, and if you dare... Monteperdido is waiting just above the Goriz refuge. Great video

The word majestic came to my mind, even before your little one line poem. The colours of the autumnal leaves on the trees, the defined rock layers and the undulating shape of ridges along the sky line are inspiring, to say the least, as you walked and climbed up to the Tozal del Mallo then completed the Faja Racon. You are right, November is a quiet time..

Lol, Aguas Tuertas doesn't mean "One eyed forrest", but "Twisted Waters (Twisted River). Wonderful. I've been to a couple of these somes years ago in summer, I love it how you organized your trip from Spain and oriented yourself so easy in all of this stuff. Also at a tie when it's not loaded with mass and crap toursim. I subscribed, please share practical info on these trails and your trips 💯

I tell you what, I'm French, we have 1:25.000 trailing maps for every each square meter of the French territory, the IGN maps, for sale on the Vieux Campeur in Paris 5th district (probably on the web and/ or Amazon)... I've been thinking about figuring out the trail from Cirque de Gavarnie to Montes Perdidos in Spain (some other guy in the Internet shared it)... Don't hesitate and share practical tips too man.. great vieuws , and for us seeing it again through your eyes , we walked those too and we plan to do more from '26 we are both retired and our goal a is to hike all the passes and almost passes . we did a great montagne "Tor" to andorra . and in the val de echo I got a micro crab in my drink ... mountains are so great !!
