once, the patriarch for the byzantine empire had around 18K gold. that's beyond nuts. and i had a hook... so, call him over, imprison, banish. whatever the backlash, i can buy my way out of it.

Man these are really helpful for someone who struggles to remember and understand all the mechanics. Can do one about inheritance? I want to in-depth guide on how to design steady transitions between rulers and expanding families.

Another small tipp: When you give out land to vassals, make sure that each vassal has only 1 county. That way each county gets 1 gold more taxes for being the realm capital of that vassal. Increasing their tax income and indirectly yours.

As a tribal government really you don’t need much gold to war, you mostly wanna keep your prestige in check because that is what’s gonna be used for your army maintenance

Bought the game 2 days a go and this video made me hit my head to the wall. I have already quit the game twice.

One of the best ways to increase taxes is to build cities on the coast. Build a guild and a harbor and whatever 3rd gold-making building you want. You'll get great development bonuses there, so convert its culture to yours and get a small bonus to your culture research too.

There was a good article on Reddit, basically, you get way more money indirectly controlling churches than directly owning a few. Its 50% tax 100% levies, if your bishop endorses you. they also get bishop vassals, basically, all other bishops also pay 50% 100% so yes, you get 25% tax indirectly from anywhere and 100% levies. tribals don't really get any, other than holy sites, so might worth owning directly. you get 50% on churches in your duchies, so all you need is a castle in multiple duchies. its 25% for other duchies, since it gets taxed by your own bishop. but the major thing here is building a church, starting off projects (remember that military gives 100%?, also churches can have walls and really slows down siege progression/opponents lose a lot of men). Then, since they get the other half, they will upgrade those buildings for you. Unlike vassals who can spend on wars, ransom, blackmails, feasts, hunts, bishops will 100% spend on upgrades, when they got a chance to do so. Vassals who do have an eager reseller or hunter trait, can invite you over for free stress reduction and a chance for skill learning and increase. Even better when you go feudal with a small country then take over pieces from other countries, tho you need to spend on initial phase a lot. Worth mentioning religion change or custom religions, playing in Europe, will have quite a high chance on switching to Lollardy, multiple times, while at the first time might be risky, after 3 times, if you check the religion maps, it's quite safe to change and quite good to geet marriages with their followers, and it's only hostile to Catholics, no evil. Even better, 3 holy sites allow reforming your faith, and you get many options from development, building time, becoming the head of faith, and even inheriting the title. Harder setup, but you can have a lay clergy, you being the head of faith, everything is a crime, and everybody will pay you indulgences to get rid of their modifiers. One note on the development: it's not always good, focusing on the development will stop you from collecting taxes. The difference is not so big, and it's worth upgrading your own domain and to keep taxing the most of the times, however, there are special cases when you better focus on development. You need a very good councillor, around 20 in skills so he does it fast. The magic numbers seem to be 9 (it would of taken me 65 years to go from 8 to 9) and 20(havent tested fully, but i saw it on the innovation description), those are the limits where the innovations slow down the development, so check your culture innovations. Also being a steward gives you extra points to domain holdings, development, taxes, and even a lot of quests to get more development bonus for a few years. In my test in Siber, everything was 3 development, pushing development to 8 helped me with taxes, you should never let your capital sieged, control will drop and that affects taxes. Now, this is where it gets interesting: your capital gets extra growth, but since you can't really push it above 9-10, moving the capital to another closeby area will keep the old capitals taxes fairly high, and you get more development for your new area, so more taxes in total, just make sure to convert faith and culture first and increase control. Really worth noting that multiple sons will get one of these territories so you either don't have more sons, or disinherit them, or give them other lands so they don't get your main area. Development also spreads, so being next to a highly developed area, increases your development, the prime example is Capua, which starts lower than Rome and Napoli but being in between them, becomes very rich compared to Napoli. Special locations can be really good, one example is Oestergothland in Sweden, which has the highest development, and its next to your starting capital if you do the premade run in 857, it has a good mining zone which makes it the best location to own. The other one is the church in Cagliari/Iglesias which gave 3 gold on level 1, and easily gives more income than 6 farms or your capital. I got a list and a map of the locations if anyone interested, now im testing the 3 mines is Manding/Ghana area, it's like a hidden treasure because you need feudal to access them. You can fabricate claims on these lands and revoke titles when the owner is in prison or is weak fighting a war, and they accept it, you can give a shitty title in exchange to compensate. You should probably own a full duchy, then if you can afford it, own mining sites and holy sites with the rest of your domain limit. A wife with high stewardship set on managing domains can help out. You need 5 points for 1 domain, each rank gives one extra and some innovations, generally, you gee 4-6, but a wife with 20 stewardship means 2 extra holdings, and round up your own limit if you can (she gives half of her skills so if you go 9, you need 22 from the wife, but if you got 8, you need 24, but if you got 10, its overkill to have 22 and not 20, so you can go with inheritable traits with fairly high stewardship too). Controlling 6 instead of 4 domains gives a huge money boost, if the control is high, the capital will be the best taxes, but 2 extra domains might give around 40% more in total. Also your kid is more likely to specialize on stewardship which further increases the odds. I would recommend a wife with genius trait and 15-20 stewardship, she can teach your heir to be a good steward. With 12 domains i made a ton of money when i saw the Spliff video i was surprised, where he made 55 gold a month with north korea strategy, having 3 times the size and an empire title, its 80% reduced, but still, i made more having some vassals (12 domains was the most part of the kingdom). Easily the most fun i had with a King so far.

Extort subjects won't always just target your vassals. Sometimes it'll target a county and let you exchange gold for control, or for dread/popular opinion.

Good tips here. I was riding high with my popular King of England, taking in a lot of tax revenue. I groomed his youngest kid who was very high in Martial Skill to take over so I can complete my empire. One disinherited sibling and a murder I had nothing to do with, and he inherited everything. But all vassals hate him so I had to drop crown authority to the lowest level to quell the rebellions. I'll use some of these strategies to get back in the black and finish my conquest of Scotland.

I would like to see your thoughts on who to give land too and how much land to give them. I try to look for a balance of Marshall and Stewart skill, then try to give them up to a Dutchy worth of kg and with title.

I was playing as a Wallachian Duke and managed to get a Strong Loyalty Hook on the King of Hungary, that enabled me to use the demand payment 3 times now, yielding 165 gold.

- Create the religion which makes adultery a sin both for men and women. - Have “Golden obligations” perk. - Get 300 for each “sinner” you get... Works pretty well for kingdom/empire realm (as there are plenty of “criminals” there, heh). Honestly,I’ve stopped caring about money at some point as I make 200+ per month and have plenty of people “in line” for imprisonment (it’s nice that they’re also “inheritted”).

Oh, that end part is very interesting. Anyone reading this know more about being a religious leader? If you made your own religion and focus on it, how hard is it to become the religious ruler? Paragon I believe it was called? You then have the status of a Pope, right? Do you even need lay clergy then? And/of will this make temple holdings even better? What other benefits can you get or any other thoughts? Any use to groom children to become clergymen? Temples count to holdings, so you can hold one domain less. But as I think you can only have one kingdom and two duchies, it'll be a temple instead of a county. Sounds nice, any drawbacks? You mentioned in another video on culture that the speed of research depends on the average development. So a small highly developed land would be perfect. Do temples everywhere then kinda double the amount of holdings and roughly double income in a region?

Development is ignored if you are playing a tribe if I understand it correctly, except for determining the army supply.

I tried the banishment method to one of my vassals who had no heirs and I didn't get any money. Does it only work on priests or something?

0:56 This still works as of December 2021. I just banished my Archbishop and swiped 16,000 gold (!) from him. Lost a level of devotion but that doesn't matter to me much at the moment.

PSA: The 'Extort Subjects' decision is not pursuing, it's a trap. This is the one you get from the stewardship skill tree. It's going to select one of your direct vassals at random to extort, feudal or republican. Even if you have a large empire/kingdom, it's always going to be a direct vassal, so if you're an empire, assuming you have at least a few, if not many, it's going to be targeting kings who are very powerful vassals and people that are going to be very annoying when they are mad at you. Otherwise, they're going to be people directly under your domain like your republican vassals, or maybe a duke/duchess. If you have a fairly decent size domain 10+, there's pretty much a 50/50 shot that the target will be one of your republican vassals. If you choose to extort them, you will get a massive penalty/de-buff to that county with taxes/levy/control/development. If you choose not to go through with it, it still sets off the cooldown. This action usually nets you around 300 gold, and you still take a massive relationship hit, possible tyranny, possible rivalry, and if a republican vassal--a county penalty, and you'll usually end up seeing a faction form as a result. The 500 gold one comes with tyranny and even more massive de-buffs, high chance of a rivalry, and will almost certainly create a faction. 300-500 gold is simply not worth it. If you're realm is smaller and/or you're under a liege, then these negative affects are going to be very harmful to you and cause way more stress than its worth. If you're a large empire, then the amount of gold you gain is trivial and not worth the potential hit to your county which may end up losing you more gold than you earn in the end and not worth the drama it creates with that vassal.

Last Advice really saved my ass. I had no idea!!! grrr....

You guys should really consider those prisoners captured from war. It can net you A LOT of money. I had a realm splitting war once. Half my empire rose up against me. some 20k troops vs my 14k. I had to buy A LOT of mercs. It cost a lot of money. I went into the red really fast but ultimately won the war. After the war, I ransomed everyone and ... at the end of it ... I had twice the amount of gold I had BEFORE the war. And I imprisoned everyone who rose against me.

If i build a duchy building that gives realm bonus in my vassal's holding. Will i get the bonus myself or is it only my vassal that get the benefits? Is it save to give a county with special building to a vassal like the pyramid and petra? In more direct manner. I want to have more knight. Do i get more knights if i build military academy in my vassal's holding? Also i kinda want to release county of gizeh.

I'm not sure if I am a fan of the changes to duchies in CK3. I think they might need some balancing. The idea of the duchy building is cool, but you can't really get more than 2 of those without getting the too many duchies opinion penalty. Plus I see a -5 opinion penalty for not dejure liege if I have a count as a vassal without holding that duchy, but then if I hold it, just like in ck2 I get a -25 because they want the duchy.

Tribal age seemed so op compared to feudal, i played with leinster in ireland and adopted norse culture and got filthy rich with longships, going feudal hurt my economy so badly, still burning through 10k gold to get it up and running...

Before watching, I have the most fun way: carpet siege everybody you go to war with.

idk in every game I just have the most of Eurasia and tons of money (16k now in 1220), playing on normal. In CK2 that was almost impossible. Also the Mongols were announced and didn't even come to see the 70k army of ours :)

I desperately want a video on managing vassals, granting vassals when reached beyond limit. Its a bummer when we establish an empire after playing it for 100+ hours i can't expand further. I'm over vassal limit and not getting enough levies and money.

One way to make some quick money, that I expect will be patched out, but works for right now is to check your vassels holdings for structures they are building and cancel them. Instead of the money going to the vassel, it goes to you. I believe this is a bug and therefor will be fixed eventually, but works right now. There is no direct negative to doing this either, its just free money.

Golden Obligations Correction: ps5 version allows hooks to be used as long as the target is not in debt. However, the hook may not net you the full amount the hook is worth.

If you are a kingdom unless you are below vassal limit, it is always better to not create duchies but hold all count vassals right? Since you will get less from duchies because of diminishing returns? Or it is better to have duchies rather than direct counties whom you are their liege?

Idk what happened but I went on a single pilgrimage and all of a sudden every like three months or so I can ask for 300ish gold from the pope and he likes me so much for some reason he always says yes, I’ve got a crap ton of gold rn and I literally did nothing.

I prefer arranging matrilineal marriages with strong hooks.

Just reform your faith with the communion tenant and you as the head. You get 100 gold every time someone seeks to increase their piety which is about once a month starting out but once it speads it gets to the point of insanity as it is hard to keep about with the popups for gold.
