Before smokeless powder's higher velocities double barrel 4 bore rifles were the guns used by elephant and waterbuffalo hunters.
@Thatguyoverthere877 ай бұрын
Yep. They called them "stopping guns" because they were intended to stop an elephant dead in it's tracks.

A prolific African professional hunter(W E D Bell I believe was his name) was known for using a 6.5 Mannlicher in the early 1900s to successfully drop elephants with. Though he did use solids instead of jacketed bullets and shot placement is critically important, but he was very successful in taking huge numbers of elephants with what most even very good hunters would never consider using.

@@johnchandler1687 Is Pondoro the name of an individual? I'm sure there's a few that have tried and succeeded at taking such huge animals with such small firearms, though I've personally only read of Bell.

I can't quite tell but it kinda looked like he didn't have it fully shouldered, which would be rough.

Any gun he shoots will not be properly shouldered. Look at the shape of his shoulders. Most guns he could just manhandle the recoil with no issues

For perspective; A .50 BMG produces 12,000 ftlbs of force A 20mm cannon produces 39,000 ftlbs of force This gun produces 18-22,000 ftlbs of force. Diameter isnt everything,. The weight and velocity of a round matter a lot more.

@ryanv1279 Weight and velocity do matter as well. However, that's only when referring to penetration. I'm just saying this thing is used for hitting soft targets. Bullet diameter matters a lot when hitting a soft target. The wider the bullet, the bigger the wound, and the more energy that is transferred into the target.
